BluRay is leaving HD-DVD in the dust now.

Nambo mumbo...
I quoted because a HD-DVD fan quoted it trying to "prove" that HD-DVD outsells BluRay 10:1. But I guess the moment stats don't support your views they become invalid eh?

So - lets look at the content coming up for BluRay:

Air Force One, Bruce Almighty, Cars,
Chicken Little, Con Air Crimson Tide, Dinosaur,
Eight Below, Enemy of the State, Finding
Neverl...

Why a 200GB disk? What use for it?

Well - why buy 6 DVD double sets for the entire Star Wars series, if I can have the all episodes, bonus features and a bundled PS3 game on a single BluRay 200GB disk.

But XBots would most probably prefer 22 DVD's for the same content...

Numbo, Mumbo...
Ifit is encoded in VC1 on both then it will not "probably" give same quality. It will give exactly the same quality.

Sony did not decide to use MPEG2 exclusively, they support a whole range of codec's.

Sheesh... I really am beginning to think that this forum is infested by something that makes you guys dumber by the second - or you really really are just willfully pretending to not get it.

Let me type slowly as you ...

PS3 and XB360's are PC's. PowerPC based PC's like the Mac, just less RAM. The original XB was a typical Intel based PC.

Get over it. They only close the environment a bit to discourage use as a PC, only allow authorized code to run on it, but the PS3 and XB360's are simply PowerPC computers with emphasis on gaming.

It will be able to run Word Processors, Spreadsheets, Databases etc etc.

Like kiosk's are PC's with limited user interfaces, consoles i...

And no, I don't think that Dell, HP, Acer etc is too thrilled by this.

For example - lets just contemplate the possibilities:

We have a monopolist, who regularly strong-arms competition. It became the dominant OS vendor, and the growth potential for it has reached its ceiling.

The only growth potential is with hardware. If they decide to start building a proprietary hardware platform, lock the OS down, ensure that the "latest features" i...

We are comparing HD-DVD with BluRay. You just don't get it do you?

If you drive a Porche, and it comes with GoodYear tyres, and I drive a Ferari with Firestone tyres, and we want to compare tyres, then you cannot compare the Porche with the Ferari.

We are comparing the storage medium, not the technology that it may be found in.

Simply put, you can add HD-DVD or BluRay to a PC. Comparing a Samsung BluRay player with a Toshiba HD-DVD player does no...

HD-DVD triple layer at 51GB "beats" BluRay dual layer at 50GB.

And then try to pretend that BluRay cannot store more than 50GB when 200GB is already in the works.

My goodness - the math of this poor idiot. At a quarter of the size of the rival, they proclaim victory in storage size!

BluRay titles started outselling HD-DVD titles in December 2006. The installed base of BluRay is over a million now (and don't try the lame theory of PS3 ow...

MS will throw another couple of billion $ in the water to get a dominant position. That is their mentality. Investors is most probably horrified to see a company proclaiming - yeah - we lost a couple of billion - we are winning, when Nintendo makes a profit from day one and outsold them in their best month.

Sony and MS offers demo's and on line store for smaller games. Wii does not offer that as far as I know. This will most probably be a crucial issue when this becomes the preferred method of selling games.

MS timed it well - they will most probably offer the 120GB disk model (new premium?) and the now premium model as the new core model and drop the diskless version.

Can not really think why the diskless version of any console should have a right to existence at a...

What I am saying is simply - the PR BS about image quality on HD-DVD being "better" is stupid. The storage medium does not make the image better.

HD-DVD is good enough. I am not disputing that. It is slower than BluRay, it has less capacity - that is a FACT - but it still is competitive, and good enough. I don't really buy the faster transfer rate - because we saw DVD drives becoming faster and faster - so that is just a function of the particular drive, not he storag...

Still cannot give a simple answer eh?

Still trying to confuse the issue eh?

2 layer BD is 50GB
2 Layer HD-DVD is 30 GB
Sneaky of you trying to compare 2 layer with 3 layer to attempt to show "only 5GB" difference.

Your comparisons are related to the equipment doing the playback - not the storage medium itself. Just admit it - you don't want to do the simple comparison because you know you will have to admit to BluRay being s...

QUESTION A
1) I have a PC.
2) Attached to the PC I have a HD-DVD drive.
3) Also attached is a BluRay drive
4) I have two disks. One BluRay, one HD-DVD. Both have the same movie: Spiderman 7, encoded in VC1.

So... tell me, which one of the two will give the best output? The HD-DVD disk, or the...

For December:
HD-DVD: 45%
BluRay 55%

http://www.dvdempire.com/

BluRay overtook HD-DVD. This is the end for HD-DVD. Get over it.

The media - especially the US Media (most probably due to MS influence) has been announcing BluRay's demise, failure with the PS3, downplaying any positive news about BR, trying to influence the public with really really stupid analysis and comments to go wit...

Just think of streaming a 25GB file. It will be faster to just drive down to the shop, watch the movie, return it and stop the download that is at 20%.

Taking the fight to Sony for a couple of reasons. Fanboy and biased commentators aside the simple reality is:

PS3 will sell millions because of the Playstation brand loyalty.

Millions more will be sold because of the BluRay format. Because of the high consumer awareness associated with the BluRay brand, if MS includes BluRay it will be sort of admitting defeat.

The PS3 has good titles available, not many, but the next wave looks extremely good, and...

It will not be "impossible" to add HDMI to the XB360. Maybe impossible to the existing XB360 due to certain speed issues on the output, but that will not be an issue with the redesigned XB360.

And yes - they will redesign it like Sony redesigned the slimline PS2. Since the CPU is going to move to 65nm they will have to redesign the board layout, consolidate some chipsets etc. And simply add support for HDMI. And most probably add HD-DVD. Hopefully they will do hat Son...

The technology behind the Wii and the XBox is not remotely the same. The NGC and XBox was comparable in power. The Wii is at least double than either of them. PowerPC is not Intel Pentium chip. It is worlds apart. In terms of power the Wii hands down beat any of the previous gen consoles. It does not come close to XB360 or PS3 - but then - they are not aiming at the HD market - yet. They aim for the mass - not the early adopters. The masses are not planning on moving to the newest TV's yet. T...

Now they just need to add a BluRay drive. And make it possible to add on any SATA disk - as with the PS3. That would make sense for a change.

But for XBots - 20GB should be enough hey?

Going for HD-DVD internally will work them over - as HD-DVD has already started losing to BluRay. So it would make sensefor them to add a BluRay drive. Come on MS... we know you want to. They will just need to find some sort of positive spin to it....

Well seriously...

Now Diputs Loof... just answer straight up:

I have a movie - lets say "Spiderman 7". it is encoded in VC1 on a BluRay disk and in VC1 on a HD-DVD disk. Now - on the same playback device that support BluRay and HD-DVD - lets say a PC with both drives... which one will look better?

Answer?
