Seems like the devs are getting the beast tamed. More and more games are brginning to showcase the PS3's power. Pity it took so long. Sony did get a knock to their reputation while the devs were struggling with the architecture. Lets hope that they will open the KZ2 engine for other devs, as well as the GoWIII engine.
As the 3 year warranty expires - and as the console RRoD, we might see more people moving over.
The original PC that the whole market is build on is from IBM. Back then the IBM version of MS-DOS was PC-DOS. Of course they build PC's. They started the market. OK - so they sold to Lenovo... but they still defined this market segment.

So it will be on 3 DVD's. And for those with large HD it will be installed on HD. Nice thing about BR is that it is less disks that can get lost... but on 3 DVD's it is not as if it is the end of the world. XB360 owners will just have to live with the heckling from PS3 owners.

I am 40. I was into gaming first with the arcade Pacman games. My first home computer was a Spectrum (skipped the Atari and Intelivision consoles). Fanboyism was around back then with the C64 vs Spectrum vs Oric vs BBC. Then with the Amiga vs Atari ST vs Sinclair QL.

If they recompile the PS2 code to make it run on the PS3 - it is not the same as BC. BC runs unmodified code on the PS3. They will most probably do the PS2 titles on PSN - without the ability to run from CD. Low cost to adapt to PS3, many re-releases on PSN for PS2 titles - and another sale. Would commercially be the best call.
If it comes to the PS3 I will most probably buy it...
Seems good - it is not as if XB360 owners are evil. If they think the game is good - regardless of how it stacks up to R2, it would be worth it.

But then - I don't play much online - so I am with whatever firmware is on the latest game that I bought. I only download onto a memory stick if I really really want to update.
Whenever a new Gran Turismo is released - the whole market is buzzing. They tend to leapfrog - set the new gold standard. Was the same with GT4 and GT4:P. And by the way - GT4:P sucked compared to the final GT4 game.
That said - I think it is most likely going to be 2009. And as usual we will be in awe.
I loaded MAME on one of the PC's and introduced the kids to Elevator, Pacman, Lock 'n Chase, Galaga etc. They had a lot of fun - and for quite a number of days ignored the PS3 with MGS4 and the rest. They were too busy playing Pacman and the old classics. For them - it was NEW.
The GC was the end of Nintendo. No analyst gave the Wii a chance. And then the casual gaming market took off. Sony grew with their current market. Those who had a PS when they were twelve - now has a PS3 when they are over thirty. And their kids have a Wii.
