Absolutely, I also have both machines and generally prefer the PS3 stuff too.
I am a game developer (though I'm a technical artist rather than programmer), but I am well aware of the bennifits of parralel programming. Right now, the technicalities of the two machines show that they are pretty balanced. However, over the next few years - there's more potential muscle to be unlocked with the PS3.

I'm excited by the prospects for both.

I do so hate these US-centric analysts who think the worlds markets begin and end with the NA market.
The NA market is roughly 36% of the world wide market.
In that market only, PS3 sales were lower than its main rival.
In the other 2/3rds of the sector, they were higher.
To make sweeping statements suggesting that developers will base their views on 1/3rd of the market is sheer US arrogance of the worst kind.
Many developers base their development efforts w...

@ Capt CHAOS
Yes mate I have.
A true high bit rate well encoded 1080P signal beats any DVD hands down - weather its derived from a hd dvd or a blu ray. I've been a digital games artist for more than 15 years and I'm fussy about my images. Believe me, if I could get the same quality buying a film at DVD prices, I wouldn't pay premium for blu ray discs! I may be fussy but I'm not stupid...

Jeez.. you really are a prime example of the kind of jerk who's destroying this place - from both sides of the infantile trench war.
360 news, PS3 news, who gives stuff! This place is news for gamers, not news for Bill's lover Boys, or Sony's little helpers. Grow up!

This story should not have been approved for several reasons:

1 The title has been modified from the original title to try and encourage exactly the infintile behaviour and response we can see abo...

Do I detect a trace of Harry Enfield? :)

Seriously, all the major developers and format holders are concentrating big time on this sector now. The PS2 almost invented it, but the remarkable sucess of the WII and DS in these markets has seen everyones eyes trun into little fruit machines loaded with $ signs.
I'm not convinced its easy to make money from casula gamers as they don't spend a alot, but the numbers speak for themselves and you've only got to look at Ninty's do...

Great list - but so much of it is very speculative!
It would have been more useful if they could have kept it to confrimed releases even if they don't have a date yet..

Chronicles of Riddick 2, Darkness 2, Fable 2 are the ones that grab my attention, and I'll be picking them up whenever they turn up!

You are so wrong...and may I remind you, the 360 was not around 3 years ago either.

'The Xenos GPU is a custom graphics processing unit (GPU) designed by ATI, used in the Xbox 360 video game console. Developed under the codename "C1,"[1] it is in many ways the precursor to the R600 desktop PC graphics card series.

To all intents and purposes, the 360 GPU IS a PC video card, and the entire system is designed around the PC architecture. This has been ones...

Microsoft are right to try and broaden the demographic of the 360 user - certainly if they want a larger market share.
Sales last year were less than the year before, despite the steller line up of titles. This is beacuase the majority of 'core gamers' who are attracted by the current software line up, are already on board.
To compete sucessfully with the PS3 now that it has found its feet, will need a broad and diverse line up of titles with a broad appeal. Much as the core gam...

Oh dear!

'The frame rate flux was barely noticable, however, at a higher frame rate, textures held much sharper detail.'

Can anyone explain how a texture has higher detail at a higher frame rate? No, I thought not, as the entire statement is nonsensical!

..and while it was a reasonable summation, how are these blogs continually getting approval?...

I thought this was a well written article.
Of course, like any piece of news it was bound to be full of trolling comments on here, but what piece of news isn't accompanied by the usual monkies beating their chests and challanging their rivals?

I own all the machines, but would have bet on PS3 coming through and doing significant buisness, and thats starting to happen so I can't claim I'm suprised. I just didn't think it would happen so soon - its only been out 10 months ...

Tw@ts! At a show like CES, thats just vandalism, and I've always despised such people.
Having a sense of humour is one thing, having it tickled by screwing up someone elses day is not.

Betamax continued becuase it was the superior format and had very visable bennifits for the professional in dustry. So while VHS became the accepted consumer standard, professional video studios and braodcasters continued to use betamax because of its superior visula fidelity.

This scenario is differnet. in that the superior storage medium and 'bit rate' is the winner of the consumer market too, so its unlikely that the scenario of tapes is of much relevance here...

Hmm.. thats a pretty good deal seeing as most people will pick up a couple of titles with their machine anyway..
I really like the fact that people can choose the titles from such a good list, that's what makes it a good deal. I don't like the way the 360 Mavel game is showing so many sales despite the fact its utterly rubbish - that 360 deal gives you a turd (albeit with the excellent Forza 2 as a consolation) !

You can't question that logic. If blu ray is the format of choice, MS will use it and not blush at all. They've repeatedly said they don';t need bits of tech and yet added them later - like 1080P support and HDMI ports, so they'll have no problems adopting a blu ray drive for the next machine if its the format of choice. No doubt they'll argue that their was a 'big bennifit in waiting for the format to become established before forcing our customers to adopt it' - or something along those lin...

Whilst I agree they won't drop price till they need to, you do need to remember that sony are currently supporting 3 succesful machines and are making money on the other two, which sell more than the PS3. This is partly why they've been able to take such a hit on the PS3 for its first year. I'm suprised, but pleased, to hear they've turned it around so quick!

Absolutely mate. There are very few gamers left on this site, just brand 'loyalists' who no interest in a discussion about gaming or games.
I used to despise Microsoft fans who continually, and often very unfairly, dumped on the PS3, which I've always thought had a bright future. Unfortunately the proliferation of this behaviour has brought the response I should have expected - a whole bunch of Sony droids who are just as quick to dump on the 360 for no reason. The chances of having a ...

This is a large advantage of being an electronics manufacturer, as opposed to simply buying componants.
Sony know how to make a consumer piece of electronics and reduce the manufacturing costs and increase yields to control costs. Further reductions in cost this year should enable them to either make a profit on the hardware, or match any MS price cut.

I had another converstaion in another thread wih a user who insisted that MS could do the same thing, as they owned the ...
