Lets see
50 million sales for the PS3 by end-2010
Say 20 million sales per year for the next 3 years, especially after the next price cut to $199-249 (which is probably not happening before late 2011 though) – that’s 110 million lifetime sales even if the PS4 comes in 2013 xmas.
Suddenly, 100mn lifetime sales don’t look so out of reach.
Most sites are giving it 7-9. Most of the sites that gave it more than 9 are xbox-only sites, and just 1 reviewer gave it a 10.
Beat me to it.
Pretty damning indcitment of the game really
Some facts:
There are just 8 scores above 90
Four of then are from xbox-only review sites
Just 2 of them are higher than the AVERAGE score for God of War
But of course a title need not be 90+ to be AAA.
Yes, Halo rocks
Now go back to the other side and stay there
"just not standard. "
What you mean is, you have to pay $50 extra
The 360 has everything a PS3 has, wifi, HD DVD, online, it will just cost you $900 to get it all, and it still doesnt improve its reliability
Ah, old memories of the marginally superior xbox version being hyped by Eurogamer followed by xbox camp followers flooding the article taking potshots at the PS3
The best thing about Killzone 2 and UC2 was that after they came out, xbox owners realised suddenly that its gameplay that matters, not graphics.
Its honestly not a big deal if Splinter Cell, L4D, ODST and Alan Wake are mostly sub-HD and woefully weaker than PS3 exclusives in graphics. Its all about...
Cant wait to try this out
"One amazing example was when he took a Move controller and flipped it into the air. His on screen sword followed it perfectly the entire time and landed comfortably in his hand."
Amazing!
Thanks mate, that was a very exciting and interesting post
If you bought a 360 in 2006 and added Live Gold (without which CoD, Halo, Gears and Splinter Cell are all 5-hour games) it would have cost you moer than $700 by the time you stop using it in 2011 or 2012.
Thats without blu-ray, wifi, rechargeable batteries, HDMI cable, with a smaller hard drive, with weaker specs that cant support 720p for all games, much higher (33%) defect rates
Reasons:
"-Not enough guns?"
No, its rather because it plays too much like a shooter with light instead of bullets instead of offering anything really innovative
"-Not enough fast paced frantic action?"
Again the exact opposite: its got the same scenario - go into the forest, shoot monsters - repeated again and again, whereas the much hyped story and sandbox elements are missing or weak
"-Hating on it because the game is graphic...
From a non-fan who has not played Halo much, my take is that Halo 3 sold 10 million because Halo is basic, simple and easy to pick and play, whereas a game like Mass Effect (a far better and deeper game, from a developer as reputed as Bungie) sold barely 2 million because it takes time to understand the complicated gameplay mechanics.
If they want to keep their fanbase with Reach, Bungie wuld actually need to keep Halo as it is, the changes may improve the gameplay but also make it m...
I think it more like the 360's Heavenly Sword.
And to be honest, the scores arent the disappointment - after all Max Payne 2 scored the same (MID-80S).
Killzone 2 managed to surprise positively even after all the hype in some respects - the majestic AI, the multiplayer, the unique controls, the art design. As far as I can see, there is nothing in Alan Wake where reality beats or even matches the hype. From what I have seen, the combat and use of light is nowhere as creat...
The typical approach
The PS3 is powerful enough to be a supercomputer
"Who cares, its a gaming machine, etc"
The PS3 can no longer be used for supercomputing IF you apply the update (which you dont need to)
"PS3 sucks, Sony is greedy, etc"
It was the same with backward compatibility, no one gave any credit to the PS3 for having the ability to play thousands of PS2 titles - until they removed it, and you still hear people whi...
It must be me, but I never saw the difference betwen SKY HD and SD when I used to see Football matches - thats 1080p vs 720p isnt it?
But sub-720p is definitely visible
Leave aside the hatred for this guy, and you will realise he is right
The Move control system would be perfect for this game
The PS3 does lighting, sound and physics far better than the 360 (compare KZ2, GoW3 or UC2 to any 360 exclusive). And those are crucial to the Alan Wake experience
And games like this do sell better on PS3 - a completely new and off beat IP like Heavy Rain gave Mass Efect 2 a run for its money sales wise. Its only the brain dead spray and pray sh...
Well, it does help to cancel the PC version, then making it exclusive to the 360 where story based games never sell as well as brain-dead generic shooters - Lost planet outsold both Bioshock and Mass Effect. The positive is that its a small studio, so even after 5 yearfs of development this probably cost just 20-25 million and will break even with 1.5 million in sales
I remember someone, possibly IGN, mentioning its 15 to 45 seconds, closer to 45 for intensive levels. Which is ok really, not much longer than Mass Effect's elevators. What really helps this game is that the track creator is so easy to use.
But I could buy and XBOX1 on the cheap and play Halo 1 - its the same gameplay, and the graphics are only slightly better on Reach.
