Deus Ex HR sold 2.18 million units and Mankind Divided tanked pretty hard due to it not being up to par to uphold the legacy of the series (Mind you it was still the best game of 2016 aside from Doom). That's not mainstream in a climate where PS3 and Xbox sold around 80 million units each.
Portal 2 is maybe more mainstream, but it is the epitome of what games without violence can do, that's why I took it up as anexample. Also, not many people talk about it these day...

Something to give DMC5 a run for its money.
I mean.... Portal 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Can be played in Pacifist), The Witness etc did it, and did it multitude times better imo. Same goes for something like Disco Elysium. But oh well, mainstream people don't play these games.

I mean that's why I have never liked cinematic games. Their stories and gameplay vary widely in tonality and the gameplay is quite shallow, so I stay away from them. Not to mention cinematics are jarring to me, especially walking segments and cut scenes. Something like Doom is the ideal game if I want to play action- no story interruptions, no wannabe character arc/pretentiou story-telling, just pure gameplay. Also, enemy variety is pretty good, unlike in Uncharted.

Also the world was far more engaging. I still remember entering Fungal Wastes and going "WHOOAAAA" and then entering the Crystal mines and going "WHOOAAA"..... That game is an objectively flawless game.
Easily among the top 5 games of the gen.
The reasons given in this article can apply to many games in the generation. I would say Nier: Automata fits the bill and is an OBJECTIVELY much better game in terms of game design. Dark Souls is the obvious other which talks about the state of humanity, another better game. Also would consider Persona 5 to be tackling the same issues somewhat.

The ending E was quite a stunner too. Can never forget that ending.
DMC5 tops that list simply by being 60fps even on base consoles (Same for RE2, but that game's a remake). It has no business looking that good and still running at 60 fps. No idea how Jedi Fallen Order made that list. It looks plasticky and is chock full of bugs.
Tbh the mainstream games on both platforms are boring.
PS4 was saved by Persona 5, Nioh, Bloodborne, Resogun and a few others.
