The great thing about this news? It's all perfectly legal.
Many individuals around here have talked about how MS won't last in the console industry with the whole, "MS exclusives are coming to PC thing," and that they should give up. Others, like me, have said that the UWP/Win10 ecosystem was making the brand stronger. Now it looks like MS can even get an emulator to run OG Xbox through UWP, and obviously many other systems from competitors as well. Ta...
The NES, SNES, GBA, Genesis emulator was certified yesterday.
Edit for spelling
Maybe for downloading the roms for the emulator that just got certified? Then again, we can't download anything from the internet to the XB1 now anyways, so I honestly have no idea. Anyone else have any thoughts?
What possible reason could Sony have to not include a 4K player in the Pro? Or enable cross-console play, which devs have also been asking for? Now it looks like HDR will only work with Sony tv's via the HLG format too (Look it up!). Sony's 4 the players alright... only Sony fans are the ones getting played and it's Sony who are the players.
This is 4 the Control
Nobody said it was gimped, Joe, just that it is least supported of the three formats and the only logical option for HDR through HDMI 1.4. You're right though, every PS4 is getting HDR support... as long as it's hooked up to a Sony TV!
HDR10, the industry leader in HDR technology, cannot be supported by OG consoles. HLG HDR, however, does work over 1.4. I should note that HLG is freeware, unlike Dolby Vision proprietary hardware solution( which also works over 1.4 but isn't built into either console.), but is the least used of the three formats. Unless Sony puts HLG compatibility into their sets, I don't expect many people will even be able to use the feature, but that's assuming HLG is their workaround. I...
Why did you say 4k/60? What about 4k/30? Pro can't really even do 4k/30. Also of note, if a game is 1080p (even 900p) on XB1, it can (if the devs choose) be 4k on Scorpio, and it will be at the same FPS on both consoles. It's not even up for debate, really. AMD said less than 4x bump in GPU performance to go to 4k, and Scorpio is about 4.5x more powerful than Scorpio. So by their admission...
If Forza 7 runs at 1080p/60 on XB1 it will not only end up 4k/60 on ...
Caught me off guard too. I didn't think it would be anything more than a cable, though it looks like there were processors that were removed in addition to the port itself. Still, $39.99 is way more than I expected.
Same type of thing Sony got major flak for in advertising Killzone. Same type of thing Sony fans beat Quantum Break up for too. I really want to see a side by side of Tomb Raider in 4k upscaled via One S, native on the PC and pseudo 4K on the Pro in order to get a fair comparison of the three techniques.
BTW, those two native 4k example are both last gen titles, and from what I understand, nobody will want to buy a Pro to play last gen games, right? That's the type o...
The one with the games you prefer to play. Fixed.
Also, if you're a casual player and watch lots of movies instead, the One S has more appeal. Not everyone who plays games plays them all the time. I'm sure there are other minor reasons as well, like brand loyalty.
Or course he's right, the wait for Scorpio makes much more sense for current XB1 owners. For people looking to buy a console, however, it represents a value in features that neither PS4 or the Pro can match. Seriously, how much does a stand alone UHD Blu ray player cost? MS has one for $299, that plays games in upscaled 4k, and is now independently proven to be on the best network.
Funny enough, come next year, if you bought a Pro and a UHD 4k player, you'd spe...
The price of PSN went up so Sony could afford to spend money on their network, because they know it isn't as good as XBL. They currently spend all their money making strange things like "Neo and Morpheus". Woah.
No, 2pac, it's underwhelming because a slim revision from MS offers UHD playback and 4K upscaling with HDR and a small bump in GPU clock for $299. Also, because Pro doesn't support UHD, is faking 4K with interpolation (like 1080p was in Killzone or Quantum Break), and can't come close to Scorpio in power.
What exactly is in 4K on the Pro? Oh yeah, Upscaling, which One S can also do, and streaming apps you can stream right through your 4K tv anyways.

I did some research, and HLG HDR, which is freeware, is compatible with the HDMI 1.4 standard. Only problem is most TV's don't support it... while Dolby Vision also supports 1.4 it needs liscensed hardware, which PS4 (and XB1) doesn't have. The dominant format, HDR10, only supports 2.0a.
Based on this, I'll bet Sony is going to make you buy their TV's in order for HLG HDR to function, unless by some miracle you have a set which offers it already. Har...
Assists are always off for me, but I appreciate how much you can change the game from more arcade to more sim by adjusting them. It was easy to teach my son, 5 at the time, how to drive by slowly knocking away assists until they were all gone. I was surprised that it only took a couple of months before he could drive any class with no assists!
I can't believe I overlooked that while debating, but you're right! I wonder how they're working around the HDMI protocol, or how they may be simulating HDR.
@ above comment
Simple as that? Yes, they planned ahead to put HDR in via firmware update, but were stupid enough not to plan for UHD drive compatibility in the Pro. That makes a lot of sense, lol.
Also, just because MS hasn't done an HDR update doesn't mean they can't do an update. That rational makes no sense at all either. For all either of us know, the firmware for the One S could be getting tested for reliability on OG XB1 as we speak....
What??? The PS4 architecture, being mostly off the shelf PC parts, is future proof... Now I've heard it all.
Meanwhile, XB1 was upgrded with HEVC and BC, which tech sites consistently said was impossible for the hardware, and other things as well. I know MS did say that the bump in GPU clock speed in the One S allowed for HDR, but the current XB1 still runs virtually silent, so I'm sure that HDR can be added to the OG XB1 as well. It has more than adequate cooli...
Way off topic, but that would be awesome, not bad! Then I could play any MS console games AND any PC game that exists on Steam that fits into Scorpios' specs. Valve and MS together would be hard to compete with on any level.
Seriously, you mad bro? I know Pro is only 4.2tf and has no UHD Blu Ray support, so I understand how a Sony fan would be upset and resort to damage control like this. SMH.
Yeah I agree.
