I think the term console is used just because it fits in with it's aimed competition level.
I'd put them into the home computer system segment that used to exist ie. Sinclair Spectrum, C64, Atari 800/XE, Amiga, Atari ST etc.
They were all home games orientated but had the accessibility for gamers to do lots of other things too.
Steam Boxes are not aimed at the existing PC DIY gamer rather the person who would pick a console for ease of purchase.
Options will be to buy an Xbox 1, PS4 or PC games console that's upgradable and has much cheaper games, as well as a huge back catalogue of games and user created content.
We rarely hear about the sales of new GPUs etc it always just about consoles.
65m steam, then all those not on steam and all those just being used for things like World of Warcraft . I have no idea on the figures and most media related figures are carefully picked to best highlight a specific target.
I think he's referring to the volume of customers on each format.
There does seem to a lot of negativity towards Steam PCs but I feel any thing that puts the PC environment towards the top of the format list is not just good for PC gamers but console gamers too.
Maybe if the PC format were the format to compete with console gamers wouldn't get shafted on ridiculously overpriced games software. Right now the mid range PC, PS4 and X1 can offer a similar gaming...
Couldn't agree more :)
BC2 mp felt more like previous Battlefield games
Plan B. Rent your own a set it up the way you want to play.
So true and yet it was a mod for BF1942 (desert Combat) that was instrumental in the development of future BF titles.
I suspect Titanfall will start off with that so called free pre-order map then follow on with pre-orders of the rest of the future map packs.
Wow handy info!! Played it on PS3 but just grabbed the JC2 bundle on steam for the mp:)
Am really looking forward to the online community update.
One of the best features within Unreal tournament was the ability to chat and create a game from within the chat system.
Mind you I still didn't buy BF4 on day 1 and ended up buying the PC physical version for £22.00
Picked up F1 2013 Classic for £6 but most deals were between £2.35 (fallout GOTY) and 69p :)
Only exception was Gran Turismo 6 anniversary edition :)
Same here :)
So when are they putting up sale prices as all I see are hiked up prices which then have a lesser hiked up price.
Going price for BF4 is around £25 or less!
Picked up GT6 (fantastic) for PS3, BF4 still unopened for PC, a bunch of discount digital PC games and a few for ipad.
Quite a few friends picked up Cod ghosts hardened edition when it was £39.99 but I missed out.
PS4 games are too expensive so skipped on the next gen must upgrade hype.
Germany's done much the same every time there's been a swastika in a game.
It maybe a prime example of a modern shooter to the OP but to me it's a prime example of cutting corners and creating maps that can look great but most objects are unusable with invisible walls.
There have been a few maps where objects can be used - can't think of the map but you can get on the crane etc but this is the exception rather than the norm.
One of my favourite things about playing UT99, Doom, RTCW, BF Special Forces etc etc etc was finding hidden ro...
Simbin bundles seems like an unbelievable deal :)
£13.40 Price of individual games:
£25.99 Bundle cost:
With regards the ads: I just like a clean interface. I have no interest in Singstar so why stuff it in my face over a dynamic back
ground that I've paid for.
I agree it could be worse but what worries me is I think this trend will continue and be more invasive in the future with consoles like the PS4.
I stopped buying movies mainly because at the time I had to go through "Select Language", then the "I'm obviously a thief ad", then ...
I'm looking at adding my 1st :)
The difference in the cost of next gen console v PC games has grown far too wide. With the PS3 there was likely more dev time used to squeeze in as much as possible - even creating lower res textures requires more work but with PS4/X1 this isn't the case so games costs should be closer to the PC.
Then there's the micro transactions; PC = free game pay through micro transaction which is absolutely fine but paying ful...
Reminds me when Direct3D was introduced in '95. Most didn't think it had a chance in the 3D gaming environment - mainly because it wasn't transportable.
OpenGL was in full force, then came 3DFX which was the big wow of real 3D gaming but as of today if you lost the ability to play Direct3D API games it would be far smaller than not being able to play openGL games.
I don't remember PS3 users having to have intense computer knowledge or of course all the...
