This game is going and perhaps already has a cult following.

Though this game is not for everyone, you I don't think, gave it the chance it deserves.
The game is NOT cheap. You weren't careful. If you like to play games where you don't want to be thoughtful and careful about what you do, then this game is not for you.

I tell you though...my biggest feeling of terror came when I got the "A BLACK PHANTOM HAS INVADED". HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!! So I ran back as close to the archstone as I could get so if I lost I could grab my souls.
I battled this mother effer for 15 minutes. It started off as a melee dual, we then realized we were evenly matched and switched to spells.

If you rent it, you must devote some major time over the weekend.
You have to get out of 1-1 and start leveling up.
It will probably take you between 3 and 5 hours to do this effectively. And that is if you start off with a class you are comfortable with.

Its probably too niche for GOTY, but it will hold a special place on the shelf for many MANY gamers who brave this world.

I thought the exact same thing. I saw some of the reivews...decided well what the hell...Pre-ordered the Deluxe on Amazon and got it released day.
My thinking was dead wrong. The game is mother effing awesome.

Last night I had my first Black Phantom invade my game. Im not going to lie, I was terrified. I ran back close to the archstone so if I died I could get my souls without much trouble.
I dueled with this guy for about 15min. I claimed victory. I screamed at my TV in triumph. Literally, triumph.

I think its a right of passage that all beginner players get their ass handed to them by the red-eyed spear weilding night.
If you find a way to kill them, you get around 2000 souls. It makes it a good place to level up early on.
This article is utterly BS, but I see the hyperboled point they are trying to make.
I, for one, don't like multiplayer in the traditional sense. I get bored really quickly with it. I mean come on. Deathmatch? Again? "Oh I love this map. I know just where to hide so I can snipe some no0bs." Good grief.
Developers are going to need to think outside the box to create better first person experiences and multiplayer.

If you have the Thief ring you can sneak up to him and cast "Soul Arrow", if you have it.
Then run

Rinse and repeat. Takes about 3 direct hits and gives you around 2000 souls making 1-1 a very lurcrative soul farm early in the game.
Before I figured that out, I got pw3nd about 3 times.
If you have a "protect" spell, you can cast it and not get smashed by the shield and gives you a chance to run back up to one of the guard houses and heal yourself. Assuming of course you took out all the archers before hand.
The last one is pretty awesome.
Demon's Souls is shaping up to make this these types of lists for years to come.

I second whomever said Chrono Trigger. If you play that and FFVI, you will always compare any other RPG to one of these two.
Actually, with enough arrows you can kill the red dragon in the beginning of the game in 1-2.
Get about 200-250 arrows, climb to the top of the first tower. When the dragon comes swooping in..shoot it. Rinse and repeat for like 15 minutes.
Damn thing goes down.
