I never understood the hate for FFXII.
I hate FFX, FF gone EMO, FFXII was MUCH better in my book.
FFVI would still come in and kick both of them to the curb.
I would too. But I would want the developers to re-hash the script just a bit. I agree with the above poster that an FFVI would allow them a bit more creativity.

Easily and BY FAR the best FFVI to date. Its not even close in my book.
Chrono Trigger would be a great remake as well. Perhaps in the Canvass engine style like Valkeria Chronicles.
These two RPG's IMO have not been matched. Ever.
I never understood the hate for FFXII. I think it is a great game in the vein of older FF's. I loved the more open world exploration and I enjoyed the combat. Sure the characters weren't as complex and compelling as some others, but overall it is one of my favs in the series.
FFX, on the other hand, I could barely stand. It was FF gone Emo. It was just too linear without even a hint of exploration. Goodness epic fail.

Dragon Age is a great game and I can see where someone would say it is RPG of the Year, but for me Demon's Souls is the way to go.
Ya know, for as much as EDGE, beetches about innovation and something fresh, they sure did shy away from it in this category.
Not that Dragon Age isin't great, its just not as forward looking as Demon's Souls.

Good lord, after FFVI, every other FF just seemed kinda cute.
This was my personal GOTY, and I would have lost a huge bet that a major website would have put it as GOTY.

Uncharted 2 is fantastic though...no question, but this game does something funny to your head that Uncharted 2 does not.
Because when truely great games without they hype train come around, you cannot help but deny them accolades. (and you could argue VC, got shafted a bit)

Well, the real question is who was it that turned FFX into an emotional story.
Most FF's have been more on the political side. Including the apex of RPG's (shared with Chrono Trigger) FFVI.
I liked FFXII way more than FFX for this very reason.
FFX was just too EMO for us veterans.

And yes, Demon's Souls really is that good.
It has gotten into my, and many others, heads like no other game in the last 2 generations.
The tension, the atmosphere, the creative on-line...it really is just brilliant.
Of the PsOne FF's this is my least favorite. FFIX, FFVII, FFVIII, but thats not saying all that much because I really liked the others. Its a great game, just a bit different.
FFVI, still remains king in my book by a very long shot.

Bingo, I would only swap FFX for FFXII (I liked FFXII better).
But yeah, as a general rule this is dead on.
To have a very strong plot the game usually has to be pretty linear. Open world gives a great sense of exporation, but loses some strenght in plot.
If a developer can finally meld the two togehter, then we will finally have a "Next Gen" Rpg. And a video game defining moment.

From Software has made these Armored Core games for along time never really enjoying THAT much success or critical acclaim.
They make one action RPG that almost seems like an afterthought at it is one the highest rated RPG's of the generation.
Perhaps From Software should can Armored Core and stick to creating new RPGs with the same level of intensity as Demon's Souls (but not a sequal).
