I think when they say "A rock start in Japan" they meant it didn't receive the highest marks from Fatismu (or however you spell it). This is a game that really has a western feel even though it was created by a Japanese studio.
Many of you probably did what I did.
You were waiting for Uncharted 2 after a pretty big drought this summer. You wanted something to play to help stem the wait for UC2. You saw some screeshots and descriptions of this game and were a bit skeptical. It seems pretty weak really when someone describes it in passing. Then a review or two came out all saying pretty much the same thing. "HOLY SHEET, this game is awesome!" You check out some forums and then realize ...
I laughed. Good article.
I never got into the whole Trophy thing.
Nice, hopefully people will quit it with this sheet unless there really are major MAJOR differences.
The Military Complex and Aliens get my vote.
IMO its an easy way out for developers to creat games and not have to address a more complicated story and retain the usual gameplay.
Why not just be a space soldier, or any type of solider where your job is to kill an easy identifiable enemy?
Game that try and tackle a more mature story or character development can't rely on the alien/evil dude because it doesn't work with the character they created...
Braid was more interactive art than it was a traditional 2D platformer. I mean that as the utmost of compliments.
Braid will blow your mind.
Those are some great games.
I was a big fan of Loom. Sure, Grim was better along with the Monkey Island games, but Loom was very very cool.
Yeah, Drake wins this one. No question about it.
Could not agree with you more. I would add Secret of Mana in there as well. Squaresoft had a touch back then that IMO has not been rivaled to this day.
The 2D platformer reached its apex in Castlevania Symphony of the Night. That game is brilliant.
But I will always have a special place for Mario World.
Im not quite sure about the BEST OF ALL TIME RPG title, but it is a damn solid offering.
The ending I thought was very..VERY well done. It captures epic pretty well.
Can't really compare the two can you?
I purchased Dragon Age, and am enjoying it quite a bit.
Squaresoft was an incredible developer and should be remembered as the one of the best in the young life of gaming. This company has made games that to this day are in my top 5. FFVI, Chrono Trigger, and yes even Secret of Mana are in my top 5 or at least top 7. When you saw Squaresoft on the cover you knew you were in for an experience.
Now, SquareEnix, has lost that touch about what made them great. Innovation? Yeah Ok, whatever you say. A bunch of DS games, spinoffs a...
I played MGS1 and MGS2, unfortuately I took a generation off and didnt play MGS3, which where I hear you REALLY needed to play before MGS4.
As for me personally, I don't doubt the awesomeness of the game if you are fan of the series and know whats going on. I didn't so I was already behind the 8ball. That coupled with just too heavy of a scifi story made me not fall in love with the game.
The gameplay was fantastic, but dismembered cyborg ninjas? yeah, lost me...
Dead on. Pun intended.
This is my biggest gripe with the gameplay mechanic.
I have typed the exact same phrase regarding this game on this site before. Those duels with other Black Phantoms are epic.
As for the Dragon Age v Demon's Souls comparison. I have now completed both of those games and here are my thoughts that are not unlike the thoughts of the others on these comments.
Dragon Age is a story. Plain and simple. The combat is decent, but in no way special. The game has the whole "next generation" graphics, which m...
It doesn't really matter to me. The game has a solid story, but at times the graphics are pretty rough.
To the above guy commenting on Heavy Rain: The developer was very specific about why he included that scene in the game. He claims it is an important part of the story and of the artistic design. Since we have not played the game and how it folds into the story, then perhaps we should without judgement.
God of War? Ok well, you may have a point there.
Darkstorm, I think you are right, and as I said I was being a bit harsh.
Those themes to me appeal very much to 17-22 year old males. Im not saying all games have to be all lovey dovey or anything like that, but Im sure you understand the point Im trying to make.
Further, I think alot of the deep political undertones gets lost with dismembered cyborg ninjas and spirits of dead people in habiting other limbs.
I guess I hold the fact it is really...
I am curious to see what these guys come up with for the next Fallout 4 (Not New Vegas) and Elder Scrolls.
It is time for another huge jump in innovation for the genere.
More bugs, dumpdy side quests and dialog that sucks in your time, but makes no real difference in the game except for a few choice dialogs are over.
How awesome would this be? Good Gracious...Just awesome.
Do the young'uns even know about Lufia?
