I don't care what wins GOTY because my early front-runner is Dark Souls.
But what about the rest of the content.
Side quests?
Anything Atlus is involved in gets a serious look from me.
Its not a bad game. It just suffers from the shadow that was the vast epicness of DA:O.
I liked the combat for consoles. Its the story...They tried something with the framed narrative and I just don't think they were able to pull it together to get that feeling at the end of most Bioware games when you enter some parts of the story screaming at your TV because you are excited to keep going.
It just...lost that.
The story didn't translate well, and the gaming landscape with the rise of the wRPG (choice, exploration) has changed considerably since the glory days of FF. I thought FFX wasn't THAT drastically different than FFXIII, same feel though. FFX executed much better and kept towns/exploration.
SquareEnix (RIP Squaresoft) needs to take a long hard look at why people fell in love with FF to begin with.
Dark Souls
Dagobert, I may not agree that FF is the WORST FF, but I'd agree that the story is pure sheet.
And that, to me, was the major flaw of the game.
The battle system (that didn't open up till much later in the game), the lack of towns (extremely irritating), and the corridor type levels all could have been accepted if there was a great story and a reason why all these things we have come to love about FF were cut.
Instead, we got...
The game is a 7, and I would only recommend it to fans of the genere. (Not worth 60 bucks)
All depends really.
Kinda a weak list.
Yeah...not really.
Tactics Ogre
Radiant Historia
are fantastic.
Dragon Age 2 really isin't horrible when you stop comparing it to the original. It will for sure be the least well reviewed of the big name RPG's coming out this year.
The more I see of this game, the more interested I am.
Certainly some good songs on there.
I'll agree that Neir is something special.
Overall, game in and game out Final Fantasy is very solid.
Yeah, it is hard not to be bias, but still. They use the atmosphere as a story mechanic. The story is smeared across the walls.
Demon's Souls needed to be on there.
They actually tell the story through the atmosphere.
Hmmmmmmm.
Yes, misleading title.
BUT, the proper Rage is looking really good and that will be my September purchase.
I tell ya...from August on, there is a solid game to be purchased every month. (Maybe more)
Awesome.
An interesting list....
Secret of Evermore is not as good as Secret of Mana, but it is a game deserving of some more attention.
Illusions of Gaia mentioned above is another interesting title that does not get enough retro-press.
Perhaps, but Obsidian with Square designed the game with consoles in mind.
As time goes on, and the more I see, the more interested I am in this game.
This game cannot come soon enough
So the world might be mended.
