Ummmm....okay.
Nameless One: Im with you. If I only got one game this year it would be Dark Souls.
As for "easing" in. How much did health items really help you in Demon's Souls? Really, when you didn't think something through, you were toast...the herbs just delayed your inevitable demise.
This game and Dragon Dogma, it seems, will be battling it out.
This one seems better though.
GOTY contender on my list as well.
As it stands right now, I can't see anything else beating it for me personally. And that is saying alot considering the field.
Rumor has it that it may be coming out late Sept...big rumor.
Demon's Souls came out one week before Uncharted 2 in '09. (First week of October)
If this is the case, then Dark Souls might fit in nicely.
Either way, like Demon's Souls, this game wont explode into a million copies by day 3...it will slow cook and for those it is made for, will be our GOTY (of course not for sure, but all signs point to yes...)
There are a few that innovate.
Most <cough> COD <cough> don't.
Dark Souls says hi
Great article...well written... It is certainly written for other Demon's Souls players...
You did forget to mention that inspite of all this...we love it.
But the thing is...you don't have to grind if you are good.
That's the whole point.
MidnytRain:
I don't think J means what you think it means.
Its incredible how far they have fallen.
I see the point of the article, but it is misguided.
Art is such a basic term, you could spin every game is a piece of art.
However, in the traditional sense of the term "art" some games are reaching this. (Think mature themes handled in a mature way think Silent Hill 2...or even absolutely gorgeous design sets that are designed to invoke a feeling...Think Demon's Souls...Creativity...LBP)
Some games should strive for thi...
Ah, those were some solid secrets right there.
I kinda miss the rumor mill that was pre-internet days.
Though I haven't played any of the the aforementioned games, my early front-runner for my psersonal game of the year is Dark Souls.
Hell, Demon's Souls eclipsed UC2 when they came out in two consecutive weeks. Didn't see that coming one bit!
It is certainly understandale that playing a game from an earlier console would have some difficulty resonating with a current generation player.
I, like many others, played this when it came out on the SNES as FFIII and thus played arguably the best RPG's of any console around the time where games can consume your every waking moment (like 12-13 years old).
(Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, FFVI)
Still, very few RPGs have quite captured the...
Sweet goodness.
Easily my most anticipated game of the year...easy.
I was a day one purchaser in North America..Glad I could help the number
This game goes from ok kinda interesting to wow this is really cool and by the end degenerates into OMG END IT NOW.
I finished the game and wont be picking it back up anytime soon.
Im not as quick as you to dismiss this game as an AC imitator.
With ATLUS publishing it (and they typically only publish strange niche titles), Im certianly going to give this game a look.
I would love some more information on it (because it is supposed to come out this summer and there must be some info).
Are there RPG elements? How open are the levels? Good Story? How is the combat? How does the game look in motion?
...
Anything from the NES, SNES era should be out of bounds...those were nuts.
Of the modern era, Flamelurker/Maneater from Demon's Souls were pretty tough
