This is a high end discrete GPU. AMD will show games being played on a Zen APU later today, that's the one to look at if you want Scorpio hints imo.
AMD's existing cards are very strong in Doom Vulkan, so yes it is very much a cherry picked example. Still, excited to see more as I have a 4k freesync monitor and an oculus rift, so upgrading is harder than it should be while AMD's high-end is vapour.
No. This GPU is pegged at about 12.5TFlops.
Check out the Zen conference in a couple of hours, hopefully there will be some clues to what's in Scorpio there.
This thing is about 3x more powerful than the PS4 Pro, if leaks are to be believed.
@Epicor almost. It isn't just bandwidth, HDMI 2.0 (and a) actually use a different signal type to HDMI 1.4.
That's why firmware updates to enable HDMI 2.0 on TVs and graphics cards from 2013/2014 never panned out, despite the clock rates and bandwidth being adequate.
Er... Of course I already know how to make VR amazing... But why don't you tell me, just so that I know that YOU know what it is?
Hand tracking is actually pretty decent with controllers, and the haptic feedback is worth the weight or hassle of holding one. I've been really impressed by how well the feedback on the archery game in Steam's The Lab is implemented for Oculus' Touch.
It'd be great if Kinect worked in tandem with Touch, because it could add some full skeletal tracking and also map out the 3D space you are playing in for an improved chaperone/guardian system. Kinect is dead,...
True that the motivation is the same for both, they want people buying VR software through their distribution platform.
Vavle have a great reputation with PC gamers already, and continue that because everything they do with VR is completely open. They offer funds for fledgling VR developers without any exclusivity conditions. The lighthouse tech is open for anyone to use, Steam and the various tools are open for anyone. They even go so far as rendering the Touch controllers...
And better yet, the first game they have published to Steam officially lists Oculus Rift support. It seems Valve's good practice is shared with HTC as part of the partnership.
I hope Oculus open up to other hardware a bit more. ReVive is fine, but shouldn't be necessary.
I wouldn't really say Sony are "the catalyst" for HDR. The TV and movie industries are driving that train with or without Playstation on board.
With VR on the other hand, Sony are definitely sat in the driver's cabin.
It doesn't mean PSVR is hurting Rift/Vive sales either.
As for touch, I have mine and they're fantastic. Recommend the extra sensor though, as you'll hit limitations with 2 when you start exploring the room (and you will).
Consumers buy things, they don't win or lose sales figures.
Some neat mechanics shown off in there. I'm definitely looking forwards to Robo Recall.
Tracking seems pretty spot on within the much more limited play space. Positioning and height of the sensors is critical though. I've also got a 3rd sensor coming soon, and I'm optimistic about the room scale tracking capabilities of the system once those are properly positioned.
I'll probably end up with 4 sensors. No doubt that makes the Rift harder to set up and more expensive than the Vive, but the end result should be a top drawer experience.
Me too! LOL
(?)
This might actually be the most ridiculous gaming article I've read. And I once read an article from Gamingbolt.
"potential proof" lol
Driveclub earned some fans despite a pretty catastrophic launch
'Xbox Most Powerful Console Ever (at time of naming)' just to make sure they get the marketing message across in full whenever the name is printed.
Heard good things about Onward, and also Vanishing Realms, Raw Data. I could spend many many hours on Paddle Up. All of Insomniac's Oculus games are well worth a play imo, as well as Chronos, The Climb, and Superhot.
Redout feels every bit a full VR title, Elite Dangerous, Dirt Rally, Project Cars and Asseto Corsa are all said to be fantastic in VR as well.
And what's really taken me is how powerful social gaming is on VR. Stuff like Rec Room, ...
