That must be why the Mcleren g1 and Farrari 456 look like cheap knock-offs in Forza games. Glad someone finally explained, thanks.

Mrveryodd you or I not buying the extras will not deter them from adding more in future, as that inaction does no harm what-so-ever.

Not buying the games that include transactions would send a much more effective message, but there is a lot of room for that message to be misinterpreted. The execs making the decisions would more likely say "Forza Horizon 3 didn't hit it's numbers... car games aren't popular anymore so let's not fund Horizon 4".

I think Overwatch is a pretty extreme case and fair to call out.

"We used to be heroes! Now bad stuff is happening, we have to do something!!!"
"Yeah let's form teams of 5 and fight against each other, that'll fix it!"

I've got time for Insomniac. Sunset Overdrive and Ratchet and Clank have been some of the most fun I've had with both current consoles, and Spider-man is looking good. All of their VR games have been relatively robust and enjoyable too, though they can't bring in any significant money beyond the funding from Oculus.

Because you already have it all, eh super xbox fan?

@Genuine-user that's a pretty bad example. Cerny doesn't say some things won't be native 4k, simply that they aren't using brute force to get there.

Sony have been pretty elusive on the capabilities of the Pro, or at least very selective in their messaging. Their official media says "dynamic 4k", with tiny disclaimers to clarify that it might not actually be rendered at 4k. They don't outright lie about it, and the truth is fairly easy to estab...

These are distribution platforms. Microsoft and Sony make money every time we buy games and content. That doesn't mean we should pay directly for maintenance and support of the platform, or the features that entice us to buy and play there.

I don't have to pay Tesco to keep the floors clean, the lights on, the shelves stocked, or any other operational costs. They recoup that money buy selling produce.

PSN voice chat is peer to peer VOIP. Live voice chat was peer to peer as well, until a relatively recent transition to Skype servers (recent as in within the lifespan of the Xbox One).

@Aenea Sony and MS take money for every game or bit of content you buy for their platform, on disc or download. Excluding 2nd hand, but that's a problem for platform holders and publishers alike.

Steam, Origin, Battlenet, and even U-Play all have voice chat for free, as well as authentication servers, friends lists, community features, cloud storage, game servers etc etc

Even Microsoft's Xbox Live features are pretty much fully intact and free o...

Right, cos we don't pay any money for consoles or games and the services aren't subsidised by adverts and data collection.

I wouldn't mind at all if I felt I actually got something for the money. I don't see why I should pay Microsoft or Sony a subscription to play something like Battlefield 1 on servers hosted by EA, Or worse play COD on peer to peer connections provided by us.

If Microsoft ever deliver on any of their cloud promises that'd be a different story, but right now we get so little out from this compulsory aspect of the service.

I just liked throwing bottles at the guards. Just something about it that I couldn't resist, from start to finish.

I had a defining moment in VR when someone put a bucket on my head. I was just hopping around the lobby in Rec Room, thinking "this one isn't very good... what shall i play next?" when some random player strolled up and put a bucket on my head. Obviously I stuck the bucket on someone else's head, and in no time a group of people were chatting shit and playing around with any props available. That is when I realised that social VR is going to be absolutely huge, which isn'...

They are called audiophiles because of their interest in audio, not because they have unlimited money.

Nobody should buy a VR headset for movie mode, and nobody should buy a PSVR for Steam games.

I read the article, and I don't get the impression that the guy has played much of anything in VR. I think he's tried PSVR a few times, and read a few ill-founded comments on Reddit about PC headsets.
