It may look smooth now, but the move to HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, and HDMI 2.0a/b for HDR has been anything but smooth for people investing in AV equipment over the last 3 or 4 years

I assume as these stories are being reported on N4G it applies to the US and/or EMEA servers, and there is a high probability that they are hosted in a country that does in fact take Christmas Day as a bank holiday, and work generally slows down leading up to it.

Looking at them again, the line about the 1080p display would be a bit odd to say about the normal Xbox.

I just re-bought this on the X for HDR. I did this based on my experience with Rise of he Tomb Raider. The PC version against the X version on the same OLED display in front of my eyes... It just looks fantastic.
Hopefully W3 will be a similar achievement. If not I'll just stick to the PC version and forget the £14 lol.
Look at the patch notes from the dev rather than the article that jumped the gun. It really doesn't read as being anything to do with the X. The game isn't even X enhanced yet.
I have no idea what the resolution on the base Xbox is, but think it is getting a small boost in this patch.

Assuming that's the only difference, yes. They were directly asked about the rendering resolution, and they answered the question.
The original patch notes made no reference at all to the Xbox one x, so the clarification question was based on a misinterpretation in the first place.
Digital Foundry quoted Microsoft in saying that the X is designed to output a One game at 4x the resolution with a little extra headroom. So a 1080p One game should run at 2160p, with a little headroom.
2160p is 4x more pixels than 1080p, you have to consider that it doubles the horizontal axis as well...
I was quite disappointed by it.
I adored Horizon, it was my favourite game of the year by a distance... but the DLC was a sequence of overly simplistic and arbitrary logic puzzles. It is still pretty, but in every other way it fell short of the main game.
How can I possibly show you a HDR screenshot if you don't have a HDR display? I can't. And that's sort of the whole point encapsulated neatly.

Before you do say anything else, consider that HDR allows a monitor to display shades that it otherwise wouldn't be capable of. If you think sweetfx or reshade can make your monitor more capable than it already is... do continue.

Atmos for headphones is stereo virtualisation, so it makes sense that you have to set stereo to use it. In order to work the game/film needs to be outputting object-based sound though, so it should respect the Atmos setting and output surround sound for Atmos to virtualise. Atmos will also virtualise 7.1/5.1 etc discreet channels, if that's what the game delivers.
On PC I find many games ignore the Atmos setting, and output raw stereo. That can't be virtualised prop...
You've got to admit though, it is quite hard to swallow while they brazenly hand out a 10/10 score to PUBG.

@Godmars he brings up single player when he says "MP only". The lack of single player is clearly implicit.
The suits only have the sales figures and trends for the 5 or so games they already funded and released. I don't see why they think they know a damn thing about demand for skateboarding games.
