@Outside Ask that question again in 5 years. As it stands now - yes. Forza Horizon 5 and Psychonauts 2 prove that. Halo sold second only to COD in release month.

@Silly This is about profit and sales, not extended player engagement. Can't speak for FH5 since all the negative hoopla is about Halo, but Halo is what happens when you have a great foundation then the GaaS reality sets in. 343 squandered their opportunity after all the positive buzz from the tech previews.

Meanwhile Psychonauts 2 was Double Fine's best-selling game.
And Forza Horizon 5 is the best selling of the franchise.
And the several other devs that say GP has boosted their sales across the board.

But no, it's totally Game Pass and PS+. Never mind that:
- Outriders is an average GaaS with the same brown-grey color palette everyone got sick of by the end of the 360 generation
- Oddworld released in a very buggy state to very me...

"And several last gen games take a resolution hit to achieve said boosted frame rates"

Concertoine is correct - not true. BC Titles on Series X with FPS boost will run in the One S mode if the One X mode is too intense to maintain 60fps, and when that's the case it's typical that FPS boost will be disabled by default.

In the first tech preview, the Series S was the smoothest and most consistent 120hz platform between it, PC, and Series X. Despite that, they took it out in the following previews. This is simply restoring a feature that didn't make sense to take out in the first place.

That's how I played it back then - it was really nice and smooth, and you don't own a series S so just stop complaining about it already. If you're an actual Series S owner you know what to e...

Finally downloaded Spider-Man Remastered, swung around for a few minutes and it was way smoother than I expected.

Here's hoping that Guerilla can adopt some of Insomniac's thinking - there is a *huge* gulf in visual quality between HFW's two modes and neither seem to waver in their framerate, so headroom definitely seems to exist. It's unfortunate but HFW in 60fps might be the worst looking current-gen game I've seen/played, yet in 30fps it's the pre...

Just canceled my Netflix sub after having it since the Xbox 360 days. Even have a Netflix Wii disc somewhere in a box.

They can keep their games, I don't want a Selling Sunset spin-off to play with my TV remote

Since some TVs and monitors have VRR lower ends of 45 or 48, I'm excited to see what this feels like in Spider-Man on Fidelity. Getting the 40fps mode alone is a real treat, would love to see it grow to be a PS staple.

Yeah, it's been such a shame. At least Certain Affinity is given more responsibility. Halo's so fun moment to moment, but 343 goes out of their way to make the actual experience of playing so awful.

Outright embarrassing to talk of multiplayer as Live Service but have less content than Halo 2. And the campaign, I liked playing but it's just a single biome! Again Halo 2 had more diversity.

Even split-screen is so vague because they don't al...

The closest competition Nintendo would ever get outside of the Steam Deck would be some absurdly-priced enthusiast machine from a company that only produces a couple thousand units, if even.

Chips are at a premium and stock-limited still (Q3 is my timeframe for a Deck), the Deck has every feature under the sun except an OLED screen. Companies just aren't going to invest in the R&D to create a machine that out-Valve's Valve on Valve's own platform. There exis...

Of the big 2021 games I played this one was my most pleasant surprise. Same notes I've hit before on it - incredible acting and team dynamic, gameplay was solid, humor was just right, and the story flowed well.

Solid 8.5-9, not my GOTY but it was absolutely worth the purchase from someone who isn't a fan of the films. The end does drag on *slightly* and seems less technically stable than the first 75%. Anyone with Game Pass especially owes it to themselves to give i...

Wii U was exactly that - a not-great system that had great games and access to almost all of Nintendo's great games. But third parties were nonexistent and the screen didn't make anything actually better. Cool, you can play with the TV off... as long as you're within 10' of it... and the game actually supports it

It's a profound disappointment that the best feeling Halo has turned out to be the worst.

So much of it is so good. 120fps, FOV slider, the ability to adjust team and enemy colors, you can adjust the weapon position relative to the HUD. The graphics look genuinely good. Sprint isn't controversial anymore. The foundation is absolutely solid for the 30-seconds-of-fun mantra Halo is known for.

But then you have the actual content. Considering the dev...

Activision got a lot of flack for letting go a bunch of people right after reporting record profits. It was in the midst of the pandemic - not the QA layoffs they also did and rightfully got flack for, but a lot of employees related to eSports activities, which weren't going on because of the pandemic.

It sucks for the people involved, but signs-of-the-times and redundancy, even the most profitable business just wouldn't see a reason to keep people around who don...

What a great new monetization scheme, when the QA bug is moved into Feature Request - give players content they can't use until they pay, rather than giving players content to pay for.

Roll slash roll slash?

If you only play the game one specific way sure, but that's literally just choosing to do that and ignoring all the nuances of the gameplay system. Shields can parry, you can shoot enemies with a bow to single out one's attention, there's an entire wonderful world of magic that turns it into a completely different gameplay experience - because at the end of the day, this game is an RPG that lets you play it exactly how you choose.
