Early DX11 GPUs were out in 2009. Thats about 5 years back.
5870 should have no problems outperforming consoles in Crysis 3.
"Just look at the past 1-2 years in console games as proof. Uncharted and Halo 4 are absolutely stunning and no way could 7 year old pc tech accomplish that."
Are you saying a 8800GTX couldnt accomplish games like Uncharted and Halo 4? I would bet it would easily be able to run those games in 1080p(where consoles only manage 720p or below).
Console optimization is a Myth. Most of the time it equals to reducing Resolution, AA, Filtering, Textures et...
Yea lets not mention:
Arma 3
Command & Conquer
Comapny of Heroes 2
DayZ
Dota 2
Elder Scrolls online
Neverwinter
Starcraft 2 heart of swarm
Total war Rome 2
Dont really need GTA 5 when we will be getting Project cars.
Gears of war is on PC, no one cares about it TBH.
Personally never liked fixed view games with mindless button mashing.
@Pixelsword
While decrypt is an obvious troll.
"but on the other hand it must be argued that PC gamers don't care about gameplay or a correctly programmed game."
I beg to differ, more console games lately are released unplayable than PC games. check out games like:
Skyrim, fallout series, Mafia 2, Dragon age, COD, Battle field 3(input lag) on PS3 completely unplayable.
These days just about ever...
If all of us kept that attitude, companies like Nvidia and AMD wouldnt exist, I guess you can imagine what that would mean for the gaming industry.
PC tech helps the entire gaming ecosystem.
I would go PC, specially now that new consoles are coming next year. No point investing in hardware that will lose support in the next year or so. At least with the PC, generations dont effect it, its not like games will stop releasing for it as soon as next gen consoles arrive.
Hence dropping 300usd on a PS3 or Xbox 360 seems irrational at the moment. I wouldnt invest on the Wii U either because it looks so underpowered that it may as well be outdated next year when new cons...
@outsidethebox
Consoles are not expensive to maintain- If anything this gen consoles have had the highest failure rates ever, never heard of RROD, YLOD? Infact console hardware failure has been much above PC. Its a great thing PC parts can actually be replaced instead of binning the entire system. Infact 3-5 year old PCs run current console ports in 1080p better than consoles. So where does the constant upgrades myth come in?
Games Prices- Lol u ought to chec...
Nintendo better hope the casuals bite this one, they just might have a hard sell on their hands. With gaming PCs 8-10 times as powerful selling around 500usd.
PS3 and Xbox 360 both simular in power but selling cheaper having a much bigger community and establish online.
Dont see how this will work for Nintendo.
@divinehand
Dolphin infact renders Wii games at 1080p, hence in any case the results will be better than Wii U upscales.
I have personally seen Dolphin running Wii games vs a Wii running the game. The difference is night and day. Dolphin almost makes Wii games look like PS3 or 360 games.
Thats not how hardware works. If the ram has 17GB/s bandwidth, then it applies to all the ram. Hence in the end it is just 17GB/s for that 2gigs of ram.
Well people complaining about the Wii U its not hard to guess a systems performance just by looking at its size.
When we see pics of the Wii U, we see its barely the size of the controller its coming with, what does that tell you? its a very small system.
Now look at some of todays Mid range to high end PCs. What do you notice?
The more powerful the machine the bigger the casing and more airflow it has or liquid cooling even.

@hellvaguy
High end GPUs have diminishing returns on increasing performance. However if you took a 150usd GPU of today even that will be doing about 130-150GB/s
Which is still 5-7 times ahead of current consoles. Id say it still makes consoles look pretty bad.
@beastforlifenoob
Whats funny is my 3 year laptop featuring a 5870M has better specs than the Wii U lol.
5870M comes with 70GB/s bandwidth.
Hell a 5 year old PC GPU like 8800GTX came with 90GB/s bandwidth. Technically Nintendo is still behind a 8800GTX lol.
I find it funny people are actually willing to pay 300usd for such old tech. Spend 200usd more and for 500usd you could build a PC with much great specs.
...
Terrible comparison imo.
@Neogeo
Read my comments again, i mentioned that major loads are on the GPUs.
Things work a bit differently with PCs.
PCs have system ram, and they have Dedicated ram on the GPU too. Dedicated GPU ram is much faster than system ram.
While consoles have unified ram. Meaning the GPU has to use the ram bandwidth available on the System.
Since GPUs on the PC have its on dedicated ultra fast ram. It doesnt really ...
Iron man cheat.. oh wait. Bring on the mods.
Well again you need to gain some knowledge about how things work with GPUs before you make such comments.
Memory bandwidth is a very important component. Even if you have a great GPU, but you starve it with memory bandwidth its not goint to perform.
As an example you can take a GTX 680 GPU which has a memory bandwidth of around 192GB/s, you can manually clock its memory speeds down and you will see performance collapse. Take it down to about 50GB/s and you wi...
I think gameplay does come first, however i do believe Nintendo or any other hardware maker for that matter should provide fair value in their hardware.
If the specs are true and its only a DDR3 2GB chip with speeds of around 1066. That sort of chip only cost 10usd on the open PC market. Surely Nintendo should be less stingy than that. This system is ment to last 5-6 years atleast. I would call this terrible planning on Nintendos part. Unless all they want to be doing is cate...
BO 2 is 720p on Wii U. Hence its not a big upgrade from the 630p on PS3 or Xbox 360.
"But, now that PCs have developed better graphics and social qualities, gamers may be leaving their PS3s and heading back to the computer chair."
PCs out performed consoles from the time PS3 launched with the launch of 8800GTX, so its not like only now this has changed. Its been this way since the launch of the current gen consoles.
Also Gamers need not go to computer chairs. PCs can be hooked up to TVs, specially with Steam Big picture mode its jus...
