While 50% (for GPU) may sound huge on-paper, only first-party devs will really exploit that extra power. Multiplatform games are still going to look roughly the same...
Catch up how? Adding new components? That won't solve anything for people who initially buy the X1. Cloud computing? That *might* work, but completely relies on the internet, meaning not everyone will have the bandwidth (caps) and/or speed for that...
Simply put, the Xbox One is less powerful than the PS4, though not but a huge amount.
No, EA is punishing Nintendo for releasing a "NextGen" system (WiiU) that is *barely* an upgrade to the current systems. Also, Nintendo fans generally don't support third-party developers enough to financially justify releasing future games on the system(s).
I wish it were the other way around because I like competition and having 3 main competitors instead of 2 is always better for the market AND the gamers...
When I guy a GAMING console, I want games to be the first priority, other features second. And I feel that's exactly what Sony is going to provide with the PS4. If it offers cable-like capabilities or something, great, but if not, that's what my cable box is for...
Until we have the full details on the hardware for each system, it *appears* the PS4 has a slight performance edge. That said, MS's reveal yesterday completely turned me off. It felt like a "hey, don't forget about me" show, very disappointing. Considering how bad the reveal went yesterday, Sony is in a good position to capitalize at E3. They just need to make sure they show and say the right things.
Agreed, I prefer blue for the PS4. That said, I can't imagine Sony and/or MS would reveal the game covers like this. I wouldn't be surprised if this was placeholder. Especially considering the PS4 cover looks exactly like the PS3, but blue and with PS4. I would imagine Sony has something a bit better waiting.
@newmonday - one thing to note is the faster loading will ONLY be true if the game is loading off of the HDD. As I pointed out in my post above, if the game is loading off of the blu-ray drive, there WILL be a bottleneck, though it shouldn't be as drastic as once lead to believe. If a game only needs 200-300 MB to start the level, then we're looking at about 10 seconds from loading a game to playing.
The point @DoomeDx is trying to make, I believe, is that the amount of RAM being used isn't an issue. Uncharted 1, 2, and 3 maxed out the PS3's RAM (about 460-480 MB), yet each game in the series improved upon the graphics and AI/physics. So Killzone: Shadow Fall using 3GB right now means the team hasn't found better ways to optimize the game/code (yet). Even if the team maxed out the PS4's RAM (all 7GB), the next game would do the same but look and perform better.

Completely agree. Releasing GT6 on PS3 is the smartest business move Sony can make right now. That game will no doubt sell at least 7 million copies over its lifetime...possibly 10 million. The PS3 has roughly 80 million units out, while the PS4 would only have a few million by the end of the year. The amount of money that GT6 will make will be more than enough to support GT7 on the PS4 (or an upgraded GT6) and then some.
Plus, Evolution Studios has DriveClub and I doubt Sony...
Sony NEEDS to show major interaction between the PS4 and the Vita. They also need to announce some killer "apps"/games for the system at E3 or they might as well give up.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Vita, but it needs some new, GOOD games. I like I can play PSP gamers with dual analog sticks, but that's not what the system was originally meant to be fore.
Just to keep things in perspective, yes, KZ:SF looked great, BUT, I could write a simple game that displays 1 pixel on screen and have it eat up 5GB if I wanted it to. So while the extra memory appears to be getting put to use, keep in mind that the amount of RAM being used isn't the end-all-be-all.
Though as someone pointed out, what we saw in February was still alpha so I'll be very curious to see what we get in the Fall :)
Looks fake, and I say that because it's just too big considering the internal pieces... It looks far too close to previous PS2 and early PS3/4 fakes/mock-ups.
I'm honestly not impressed and hope Sony releases something closer to the shape of the Google Nexus Q. http://i.imgur.com/dBXGW92....
Obviously it would need to be a bit larger (not by much though) to accommodate the Blu-ray drive, ot...
I don't like the line "Polyphony now have the opportunity to make GT6 the game that GT5 should have been."
Yes, GT5 took over 5 years BUT, with the numerous updates PD released over the years since GT5 released, the current iteration of GT5 we have is the game GT5 should have been. GT6 will be a refinement of that with new features. PD had to build a new engine from scratch essentially for GT5 on the PS3. Since it's release, PD have been able to work on that...
I say Sony needs to release before MS because of those exact details you mention above. The PS3 sold faster than the 360 even though it released a year later. Wouldn't the advantage grow even more if Sony released BEFORE MS this time?
The difference for this new generation is we have waited, as gamers, longer between generations than previously seen. Gamers are excited and waiting for the new consoles. I mean, heck, Sony didn't even reveal what the PS4 looked like in ...
All we need (for PS3/PS Vita/PS4) is SOCOM HD. Preferably SOCOM 1&2, but I would allow some maps from 3 if necessary. I would also accept a multiplayer-only release for this (with offline bots).
I actually like the official logo compared to these other designs...
I have to agree that Sony and the PS4 have received A LOT of hype and most of his has been unchallenged. As May quickly becomes June, Microsoft will reveal the NextBox and we'll have a much clearer picture of what is to come back E3.
Considering we know next-to-nothing about the NextBox, it's hard to really say anything at this point. Rumors state it's 6 months behind but rumors also state it had a major exclusive. Either of those rumors could make or break the new system...but we simply don't know right now.
I personally do not see Microsoft letting the NextBox slip to 2014. As far as Sony, they NEED to release BEFORE Microsoft does, that I'm sure of.
Hellz Yeah!
The OS memory footpint is a great example actually. 3GB is almost half the system memory, which is insane when you think about it. Xbox One devs will have access to 5GB of DDR3 memory...
PS4 devs will be enjoying access to 7GB of GDDR5. it's like night and day.
EDIT: LOL @ whoever disagreed with me. It's been confirmed that the X1 OS(s) will have 3GB available to them.
