It's all a matter of design. Zelda isn't supposed to be an action game like Devil May Cry or God of War, Zelda leans more on adventure. Exploring new places, meeting the locals and learning along the way. It's not a system based on pure combat which would call for a more robust list of spells.
Instead you are given equipment that is used to perform tasks in order to solve puzzles in dungeons which is the heart of Zelda gameplay. Sure most can also be used as weapons but t...
It's a dead link for me but I hope they included the ability to cancel normals into special moves in Street Fighter 2.
The developers never intended the ability to do this in their fighter and it ended up being what defined Street Fighter and is now a mechanic that is used to this day. Both in Street Fighter and other Fighters alike.
I've thought about trying to get into this beta as I've never gotten into a beta test before. Though every site that has them to give tends too want you to sign up.
I also have trouble finding nice people to play with. So many people take online too seriously.
Though it might give me something to do until my new Blu-Ray drive comes in. Failed the other week so I can't play hard media for now, just demo's and downloads so this may be a saving grace...if I could...
I just fear that giving the developers a choice on the matter will yield little results. The track record of developers that actually take the time to implement "optional" things into their games has been on the low side, and I'm using the PS3's in game music option as an example.
What worries me is that if they do decide to do the "special events" messages from the games it will just be a copy and paste of the trophy requirements.

I feel what drives the JRPG is the Story and what drives a WRPG is the players own lust for power.
In a JRPG it's always about progressing the story, learning your character. In the WRPG its all about your next level and your next big gun. You could care less why you are killing 2 dozen or whatever for the guy over the next hill but you know he gives you a pretty sweet weopon for doing it.
A WRPG's is about progressing your own power in an open world as a res...
Yes, Kratos and Hercules would be considered half-brothers. Though if you look at the Greek Pantheon, most of the Greek Gods are Kratos's half-brother or sister. In fact I think Hera Queen of the Gods was Zues's sister, in that case Kratos is related to everyone on Olympus.
Though Hercules makes the most sense to fight next to since he's a demi-god like Kratos is, then again, so was Percius but Kratos carved him up a big ol'tasty slice of death.
Most Ratchet and Clank games perfom on the market like that.
Come to think of it MOST first party PS3 exclusives behave like that. They'll start with modest sales and slowly increase over time. You don't want just a flash in the pan, you want a slow roast.
I think Insomniac has taken way to much crap over the last few years from gaming journalism (such as it is) and even gamers in general, but talent is talent and these guys have it in spades. Looking forwar...
I also think the lack of success of the Xbox 360 in Japan also has to do with the amount of content the system provides for them. Microsoft has been relying on big names and high profile titles to try to gain a foothold in Japan but have they ever given a thought to the little games.
On the PS2 we see alot of games that were excluse to Japan as a nation and never saw a western release. We are seeing similar things on the PS3 with exclusive little games being released for only...
You're right I have no evidence other than what my research online has provided.
What 3.00 did was increase the load time of Blu-Ray for the Slim PS3. This was well covered by the media, but there is possibility with the older model PS3's that it advertly effected the Blu-Ray drive leading to an increased chance of failure.
In addition, my PS3's Blu-Ray drive didn't fail when 3.00 came out, as the would have just led it to being a bad firmware install on my pa...
Rare I think has turned into Microsofts little whipping boy. Seems that every time Microsoft goes off on some tangent it's up to Rare to fill in the blank.
They need a launch FPS for their new console, enter Perfect Dark Zero.
They need more casual friendly games on their system. Enter Viva Piniata, Banjo Kazooie etc.
Now they need some in house launch titles for Natal, Rare to the rescue again.
When will Microsoft let Rare finall...
The entire turned based system in JRPG's was mostly due to constraints of the technology at the time. Dragon Quest coined the system and then Final Fantasy refined it.
As technology grew so did the need to explore new alternatives to the tried and true system, trying to find that balance of full active/turned based.
The extremes being Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X. One relied on quick action and reflex souly on the players part. The other required a depth...
I agree 100%.
I'm glad to see someone so well regarded in the world of gaming seeing the game as an artform and as a medium of expression, and he's right, video games need to be able to do what movies and books can do. They need to be able to go into those grey areas without the double standards that comes from the media about such things.
He is correct in that video games are NOT a simulation, they are NOT a method of behavioral encouragement. Books had to go ...
For me, the first Resistance has been the shooter to beat this generation. Some may look at sales as value, others review scores, and some even the name itself a symbol of quality, but me...No other shooter has been as genuinely fun to play for me this generation as Resistance: Fall of Man.
Actually I was hoping the next update would fix an issue that is a legitamate consern for the older 20gig and 60gig users. In firmware 3.00 (the firmware that was delivered with the Slim line PS3) there was a trigger that attempted to increase the loading times of blu-ray media by increasing laser output.
The 80gig systems and the newer Slim PS3's have new laser structure that can handle the enhanced output. However, the older 20 and 60gig units can not and it will often caus...
Wars truly are heartless indeed.
If Activision has anything to say about it, Infinity Ward WILL have fun with it for many many more installments.
It's ashame you don't wish to talk about the potential of the product, as those developers you speak so freely for are. There are important aspects of the technical side of it, though without potential nothing drives the creative process.
A paintbrush is a useless tool if the user doesn't understand the potential of what can be accomplished. As you get more and more skilled with it, you start to realize what more it can do in the hands of the right person. You know that the...
I've noticed also that Natal is being followed with great interest by the hardcore fanbase (I don't think the casual know of Natal yet). I think it's because the concept is most appetizing, however I can't help see the irony that the Hardcore fanbase are openly embracing a product that is so obviously a casual peripheral.
I'm more curious to the actual application of Natal. I can see a few of it's capabilities being used in Hardcore settings, voice recognition being one of th...
Actually, I think Sony is showing more support for the PSEye in an indirect way with the Wand. The wands will ( I assume) be bundled with the PSEye and a launch game. Taking advantage of the market that adopted the Wii, will see respectable numbers of PSEye's in PS3 owner homes.
Once the base is defined they can start dedicating in-house teams to PSEye titles, while other first and third party studios implement the Wand and PSEye in new and existing franchises.

You see I disagree.

I never had a chance to play OoT when it was released and ended up playing it well into the lifespan of the GameCube and PS2 era. I still felt the magic and charm of the title. There are few games to this day on my list that can compare to what a wonderful adventure the game took me on(topped almost exclusively by Shadow of the Colossus)
All the towns, the characters, the dungeons the game just had a splendid personality to it.
