Judging by the comments here, and many other places on the Internet, I think you're wrong. Nintendo owners look down on other consoles, and are afraid of real gaming.
The Switch is going to fail. Nintendo failed to address the problems that they had with past consoles like the Wii U. As the saying goes, "Those who fail to remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
Just like they did with the Wii U, right? Oh wait ...
Unfortunately that "big list of devs" isn't looking like a big list at all, judging by the almost nonexistent number of developers currently on board. Don't get your hopes up too much.
At this point it looks like the Switch is going to bomb hard, so if you do buy one, be prepared for very few games over its lifespan. Switch is following in the footsteps of the Wii U.
No one is waiting for a price drop for the Wii U, it's a dead system. Nintendo was so embarrassed by its dismal sales and complete lack of 3rd party support, they recalled all the remaining systems.
We still don't know if you have to contact Nintendo and beg them to allow you to restore your digital purchases to a different console, so people might want to hold off celebrating. Nintendo is widely known to be greedy and implement anti-consumer policies, and there has been no proof (or actual statements from them) to show that this has changed.
Until they explicitly state that you can restore purchases to a different console yourself, without having to beg them to a...
@ DivoJones - Rather than replying to a spammer, you should just report them. Tap/click the flag on the upper right area of their post, then tap/click "spam" to report the comment. If you want to take the extra step to report the actual user, tap/click on his username, then tap/click the exclamation point on the user profile screen, which is used to report users. A window will come up asking for a reason to report the user; just type in "spammer" and then submit.
Even cheaper ($20) if you have GCU with BB.
The 3DS is already effectively dead. Not sold by most retailers anymore (Best Buy, Target, Amazon, Walmart, etc), it's well on the way out.
Waggle gimmick on the Wii, fake 3D gimmick on the 3DS, awkward oversized gamepad gimmick on the the Wii U. All tied to cheap, low-spec, feature-lacking hardware.
None of those were "innovative" features, and none of them improved the gaming experience. Without solid gaming hardware, Nintendo isn't going to succeed. And so far things aren't looking great for me the Switch.
That "multi billion dollar company" has been failing to deliver successful, high quality, feature-rich products for many years. If they keep it up, their assets will continue to shrink, just as they have for some time.
Stop making excuses for Nintendo's poor decisions, step up, and demand better products from them in the future. Otherwise you are encouraging them to fail.
Unfortunately in the case of Nintendo's products, they aren't innovating at all. Their approach for many years has been to deliver the cheapest possible hardware, lacking in even the most basic features found in competing systems, and throw in a cheap gimmick to try to differentiate themselves. That approach hasn't worked since the awful Wii, but even that system died years before its competition (and ultimately damaged Nintendo's reputation), when the fad fizzled out.
Keep offering terrible advice and making poor excuses for how Nintendo should conduct its business, they'll be 3rd party much sooner that way. With diehard fans like you running damage control for their poor products, it's only a matter of time.
If they really want to "lay down the standards", they should start by designing and manufacturing genuinely solid, feature-rich, competitive gaming hardware, instead of the gimmicky junk they've put out over the past decade or so. Nintendo has not been leading the way in gaming for quite a long time, they've become mostly a joke in the gaming industry and community, and unfortunately that doesn't look like it will change anytime soon.
Who cares? Nintendo has been way too secretive about the true specs for the Switch. Instead of trying to blame an indie developer for leaking those specs (which everyone has the right to know, shouldn't be kept secret), you should be calling Nintendo to task for once again failing to deliver a competitive gaming console. Stop drinking the Kool aid, and demand better products from them in the future.
Well said. Nintendo clearly didn't think through the design of the Switch, just as they didn't think through the design of the Wii U. They designed yet another barebones product, hoping people would buy it anyway "because Mario and Zelda". It isn't even out yet, but it's pretty clear that the Switch will be unable to deliver current generation games, a certain recipe for disaster.
Don't forget to throw in your comment about the "chavs", to reinforce your condescending attitudes. Chavs here, chavs there, except on Nintendo systems. Amirite?
Totally agree. It's a fantastic racing game, but very unforgiving. Even in the early stages, you have to drive perfectly to progress.
Sure, they don't "need" third parties. And they don't "need" to succeed either, they can continue to bleed out money for another 5-10 years, until their assets are sold to the highest bidder.
