The reality of the current situation in videogame development is that being "developer friendly" has nothing to do with how much 3rd party support a console gets. If your console has a large install base, then it doesn't matter whatsoever how hard or easy your console is to develop for. The PS3, for example, gets nearly every 3rd party, multiplatform game that comes out, yet it's generally considered the most complex console to develop for.

Actually, you're right. I didn't catch that second statement; it does appear that Randy Pitchford is indeed implying that the Wii U's controller is the "best shooter controller" ever.

If he does really mean that, then I really have to question his judgement and/or honesty. I haven't held the Wii U controller in my hands, but it looks absolutely AWFUL in the pictures. The amount of grip and ergonomic support is almost nil, from what I can see. Hell, 3...

"...from Nintendo."

The article title is completely misleading and taken out of context. He didn't say it's the "best FPS controller ever." He said, "it's the best FPS controller from Nintendo ever." Which isn't saying much.

Why don’t you just accept the fact that there are going to be some trophies/achievements that you simply aren’t good enough to complete? Instead of whining about how hard it is. Maybe some trophies are meant to separate the men from the boys, and only the truly elite, skilled players are able to obtain them. What’s the satisfaction in getting a certain trophy if it’s easy and/or possible for any person to get? Not every trophy is going to be a cakewalk or hand-holding for trophy whores to pad...

Umm... no. Way to generalize in ignorant fashion.

I'm much more of a Battlefield fan than a COD fan. I'm also much more of an open-world and tactical shooter fan than linear shooters. I've played every Far Cry game since Far Cry 1 (except for Far Cry Vengeance on Wii... *blech*). Hell, I even enjoyed Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

The fact of the matter is yes, Far Cry has changed. But not necessarily for the worse. A lot of franchises evolv...

Well said.

Skyrim is one of the most prime examples of an open-world game there is, but even it has a number of scripted sequences.

Well, suicide is like a fashion statement over in Japan, so let's not blow this out of proportion.

Game looks promising, and you can't complain about the price. Wonder how the hell they're gonna make their money back with that free-to-play model, though. Maybe they're just writing this off as a way to market EVE Online and bring in more subscribers to their MMO?

Oh, is that why I'm seeing these dumb-sounding pluralizations in the past couple years (mostly on N4G)? I'm in the US, so I must not have gotten the memo.

Maybe I'll start saying things like, "Apple are cool," or "Conan O'brien are funny," and try not to think they sound so freaking awkward.

Some of these "writers" need to spend less time playing videogames and more time reading a grammar book. Or just reading in general.

It's become irritating watching the same glaring, basic grammatical error--in the headlines no less--committed every day on this site.

Sorry, but I don't share your view that it's a bad thing to download a 10-20 minute patch every couple months that can significantly improve the game.

BF3 patches tend to be massive and include a ton of improvements in terms of weapon/gameplay balance and features (in addition to bug fixes). No multiplayer game is perfect at launch; hell, they're not even perfect after a few months of public testing. Better gameplay and weapon balancing over time is always a good ...

I HATE it when companies remove basic features or modes that longtime hardcore fans of a series have become accustomed to and really like.

Another example of this is the fact that Ubisoft removed vehicles from Far Cry 3 multiplayer! Vehicular multiplayer has been one of the best, most prominent distinguishing features of the Far Cry franchise and its multiplayer modes. Removing vehicles just serves to make the game more simplified and COD-like.

People reason ...

COD implements bigger changes than Battlefield? Are you on freaking crack?

I bet you've never even played a Battlefield game. BF3 is a COMPLETELY different game than Bad Company 2. They're not even CLOSE to being similar... completely separate games. By contrast, MW3 almost feels like an expansion pack to MW2.

EDIT: Don't give me that crap about new modes. New modes doesn't matter if the core gameplay still feels almost ex...

The hate started with MW2, when the developers started making the game INCREDIBLY noob friendly (commando knifers, tactical knifers, double-shotguns, AA-12, noob tubers, One-Man Army... the list goes on and on).

The hate then continued when the series started stagnating and failed to provide significant improvements year after year proceeding MW2. Not to mention still no dedicated servers, even though it's a hugely demanded feature, and Activision is rolling in dough.

Or NBA 2K.

Every sports game is tired. That's the nature of the genre, especially nowadays. Why cite one specific franchise?

Bottom line, we're talking about military shooters here. Both EA and Activision pump out their respective big-name FPS franchises, more or less. However, I personally feel Battlefield has been a far superior game to COD over the past several years, with much bigger improvements to the engine and gameplay than COD.

I've heard from Deus Ex fans that the graphics are actually IMPROVED (in some ways) on the PS2 port, due to it coming out 2 years later, and the PS2 being newer hardware at the time. The fact that the levels are split up due to RAM constrictions is a big downside, however.

@YodaCracker: Funny how you brag about the article stating that "more people buy the 360 for non-gaming functions" when you were probably among the first to put down the PS3 owners for "buying the console just for the Blu-ray." Way to spin the whole "casual gamer" angle around.

"Bad timing to put down the Xbox 360's lineup when it recently had three AAA titles release in the span of a week (Fez, Trials Evolution, and The Witcher II), non...
