I think this is more a geocultural issue than something that's solely connected to Nintendo.
God, this game looks good. It uses so many different gameplay styles and I really dig the mix of colorful graphics with realistic lighting and shadow.
I'm keeping an eye on this one.
It's really easy to make a series stale by doing yearly installments, but it's not like Pokemon hasn't made any progressions during this recent stint of releases.
X and Y were huge; they were the most progressive games in the series in years. Compared to Black/White (and Black/White 2), X and Y visibly show progression, both in presentation tech and gameplay, with 3D battles and online features that were just awesome. You can't say that about many other annual...
Is that the game or the system it's played on?
Possibly. Monster Hunter 3 on Wii U didn't do badly.
@vishmarx
As opposed to what? Getting them for free?
Huh...I honestly didn't expect Giant Bomb to give that negative of a reception to Child of Light. Always a surprise, Mr. Navarro.
How can "the next console generation" be disappointing? Disappointment means that it's already here and complete.
People do mostly buy it for streaming purposes; the thing is that Sony's isn't just marketing the streaming, but they're supporting it super hard.
I'm surprised that Sony underestimated the PS4 camera's appeal, because their push for live streaming on PS4 was vigorous. It showed that they wanted live streaming to be an integral part of the PS4. Hell, the Share button on the controller supports that.
It is, actually, especially in Japan. Its popularity in the West is rising considerably too.
Once more, then I'll let this rest:
First-party games are usually what sell best on Nintendo hardware, and while that's easy to pin on Nintendo, not every third-party has been giving the system a legitimate go. EA is incredibly guilty of this, since they released a port of Mass Effect 3 just months before the series trilogy was released on other systems. They didn't try. On the other hand, I can give credit to companies like Ubisoft who actually tried. Aside from ...
@AKissFromDaddy
"The PS3 sold well and was sold out when it launched."
Because Sony had terrible restocking rates. They were flat-out unprepared, one of the many mistakes at the PS3 launch.
"Would you disagree with me if I wrote that PS1 and PS2 were also the best selling consoles in they're generations?"
If you're trying to say that the PS3 would've been best-selling either way, simply because...
Based on your comments, you seem to agree with Tom that Nintendo's worthless. If you disagree, say it, because you're not making a case otherwise. But trust me: they're not worthless.
And while I understand EA's power in the industry, they are the reason that the third-party AAA market is on life support. They (along with Activision) have inflated game budgets to stupidly high levels, causing the death of B games and the erosion of AAA games. They are the reas...
"For business, it's about profit first and recognition second, in that order. Most corporations will take only profit and forgo recognition."
Sony didn't. Last gen, they earned positive recognition at the cost of profit. They're spending money hand over fist. Gamers love them now, and why wouldn't they? Seriously, that's one of the biggest turnarounds in gaming history. Now, they're selling the most consoles so far this gen. That's a newl...
Good. This series is great.
The graphical arms race argument doesn't work, especially when you compare the 3DS line to smartphones and tablets. The games that people buy on those devices like Angry Birds aren't pushing any hardware; the games best suited for handhelds (and the ones that sell) are simple and accessible. There's no need to tackle top-of-the-line, super expensive graphics processing on a handheld system, because the games you put on that system don't focus on that level of graphics.
...
I agree that Nintendo isn't likely to be able to compete with the PS4 and Xbox One head-on, but Tom thinks that Nintendo is finished. Seriously, he said this:
"3DS is the only thing that is doing well at Nintendo right now, but it’s still not enough to save them."
I have a lot of trouble believing this, as you'd have to be insane to think that this one console will sink Nintendo, especially with the 3DS still selling bank.
I...
Still blows my mind that Lisa Foiles moved from Nickelodeon's All That to covering video games.
On topic: cel-shaded games are great. I'd choose a stylish aesthetic like cel-shading over photorealism anyday.
The resolution argument is this generation's "blast processing": people use it as an arguing and selling point, but don't actually understand what it means for the game itself.
No. Banjo is in very bad hands right now. All of the people from Rare who actually cared about the Banjo-Kazooie series left after Microsoft forced them to cancel the proper Banjo-Kazooie 3. They're making the games that they want elsewhere.
A new Banjo now wouldn't be even close to Banjo then, and considering that Microsoft canceled the true Banjo-Threeie, having him as a mascot would be a terrible representation.
