To me the defining thing about this gen for consoles was the gigantic leap online connectivity. We went from some games having online multiplayer but it wasn't amazing and had no real community, to fully integrated communities, achievements and friend/ clan systems which have had a way bigger impact than graphics.
I reckon its partly whats caused this shooter craze going on, shooters and competitive online multiplayer just work and can have so many clan systems and commun...
I think people just like to hate EA at the moment.

If your on the fence it really is a great game. The story isnt incredible but the combat more than makes up for it.
Hitting enemies just feel satisfying and so are the enemies and monsters to fight. Each one has its own strategic way of being dealt with.
You have hell hounds that try to drag you away from your team so they can finish you alone, chimeras that need to be dealt with in a certain order to combat it effectively, cyclops that can be hit in the eye ...
I quite liked the idea of internet music streaming still working in the background whilst playing games (Point 8. ) Mobiles, tablets and pc's have been able to do this for a while.
If there was a proper apps store to the PS store with a section for little apps that worked in game (Say a stat tracker if your playing a shooter, or Last FM/ Spotify, messaging) that would be really cool.

For a lot of people the speed increases will mean something. For example my area is set to go from around 2mbps to 30mbps by the end of the year, and hopefully once fibre optic is installed speeds can continue to increase.
Ive lived in halls where speeds were at 100mbps and it makes a hell of a difference. The only games which are really massive at the moment are a few ps3 games using high quality video but the majority fit on a dvd disk.

Its more just that we've played as Solid snake a few times now, and Big Boss, we know their stories pretty well it'd be nice to get something a little different.
In the UK at the moment higher speeds are being rolled out so give it a couple years and downloading games wont be such an issue for the majority in towns and cities.
Only problem I see at the moment is prices, but a big part of that is probably a lack of ways to actually get games online causing a lack of competition.

Solid Snake is a clone of Big Boss, so weve had the third game with Big boss, MGS4 with his clone, the peace walker with Bigg boss again (same guy as Naked snake)and then back on the ps1 it was Solid snake.
In the proper MG games the only reall different character weve had is Raiden, which was great being able to play as someone else in some ways it made it the best game of the series.

Wii Fit did sell incredibly well, but what happened to the one I bought? After 1 day of thinking it was great and a couple weeks of waning interest it went in a closet, and then in a few months was traded in. And I hear that story from other people time and time again.

If your thinking of getting this and already have a 3DS I'd wait, one thing Nintendo does is a ton of revisions to get people rebuying the console.
Some revisions have been really worth it in the past but this one isnt it, ride it out another year and see what comes up the most logical next change would be a second analogue stick, unless theyre thinking it would screw over early adopters too much...

I agree they have come in late to the market and so it will be difficult as they have missed out on that initial excitement.
Your right outside of PC's and Xbox there's not much more they've done but they are two massive sectors to have such a large percentage of and can take advantage of.

The Wii wasnt a bad console but developers other than Nintendo never really took full advantage over the controller (apart from some sports games).
Its not its graphics that will determine its success, its how well developers use that second screen so make the experiences possible on the Wii U something you dont get anywhere else.

Both pc's and consoles are the future in my opinion, at least for the next few years to come.
I think next gen one of the big things will be digital distribution which may help the cause for computers but consoles are already beginning to accommodate for that with xbox games on demand and similar efforts on psn. I wouldn't be surprised if next gen saw all games being released for digital download on the next consoles just like were seeing on the psp vita.

If anyone is on the fence about buying dragons dogma, its brilliant. Western style combat sort of game with an Eastern sort of story. Its a nice mix.
And the pawn system is brilliant. Its great if you have friends playing the game and you can give feedback on each others pawns (you can rate strangers pawns and send messages for things you like or improvements and people actually do)

I have to agree with you there. Whilst there are some gameplay choices I prefer in BF3 overall BF BC2 was more fun.
I think part of the problem is that on consoles the hardware just isnt powerful enough to realize what they wanted to do. Sometimes it feels like there arnt enough players in maps so when your taking bases its you vs 2-3 people so its not really a proper battle.

what he is saying is that it only needs to be used if it actually adds to a story and there are cases in many films and games where it does.
When its done right it adds to the story well but just throwing it in so you can say its there (Hitman film looking at you) usually ends up with a scene that looks way out of place.
