The delusional people are the ones who think history is going to repeat itself this generation. At the 2 1/2 year point of PS1, it was in 1st place, destroying the competition. At the 2 1/2 year point of PS2, it was in 1st place, destroying the competetion. At the 2 1/2 year point of PS3, it is in 3rd place. Even if you, porcelain god, believe that the 360 and PS3 are roughly even, is that really a victory for Sony - to tie a competitor that it crushed by a 6:1 margin last generation, and...
In 2008, both consoles sold nearly the exact same number (around 10.5 million each). So far in 2009, 360 is up around 25% year over year. 360's price will be the same (or maybe lower) than last years. So, 360 is on pace to sell around 12.5-13 million this year (or "fiscal year"). 360 also continues to sell very well despite the knowledge of PS3's impending price cuts, as well as the slim.
Sony has already projected 13 million PS3 sales this "fiscal" ye...
People who want to play Forza, Halo, Gears of War, Alan Wake, Crackdown, Project Gotham Racing, Splinter Cell, Natal, etc. will choose 360.
People who want to play Killzone 2, Infamous, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, etc. will choose PS3.
Seems pretty easy to me. Neither console has a monopoly on great exclusives, and each has enough current and upcoming exclusives to insure their survival for many years to come.
@1.2 - ...
"No ps3 to buy, people settle with the 360."
Interesting theory. So, people were so excited about the upcoming PS3 price drop and the slim that they bought 360's to hold them over for a week? I guess there's no recession in Japan - everyone can afford 2 consoles.
Typical. Now that it's clear that GT5's damage isn't what it was hyped up to be, GT fans suddenly consider it an unimportant aspect of the game. If GT's damage was ultra-realistic, and better than Forza's, you guys would be falling all over yourselves bragging about how "superior" GT is to the competition.
You are 100% right. For instance, lets look at Gears 2 vs. Killzone 2. Gears 2 is on a 7GB DVD. Killzone 2 is on a 25GB blu-ray. Gears 2 is about 10-15 hours long. So, Killzone 2 should be 35-45 hours long, right? But, it's not. So, where did those extra 18GB go? It did not go into extra gameplay.
The blog author is right about using uncompressed audio just because they can, when it can easily be compressed to fit on a DVD (I'm speaking in general terms here, not speci...
Damage is a part of racing, always has been and always will be. You guys say that you shouldn't be crashing anyways? What about crashes that are not your fault? That is part of racing (especially in Nascar). Good drivers and pit crews find a way to keep the car running as best as possible even if the damage was not their fault.
Now that the damage modeling isn't what GT fans were hyping it to be, it suddenly has become unimportant.
If you are an old school pinball fan like me, this is a great collection to own. I've played it on PSP and Wii, and it is the best pinball "emulation" I've ever played on a console.
@Greywulf
You are so hung up on GT's sales compared to Forza, as if sales equal quality.
Forza will never outsell GT because the Xbox 360 has never been defined by just one auto racing game. It has Forza 2, soon Forza 3, Project Gotham Racing 3 & 4, Race Pro, not to mention the only current generation version of Burnout Revenge. There is a great amount of exclusive variety on 360. Meanwhile, the PS3 has the GT series, but not much more. Sure, Motorstorm is ...
@Cold2000 - you should know the drill by now. If a 360 game outsells a PS3 game, the response is "sales don't equal quality". If a 360 game gets consistently higher review scores than a PS3 game, it's "the media is biased".
@ultimolu - you make a comment like that, then accuse the other side of hating?
Worse than what? PS3's sales slowed dramatically in the last months in anticipation of the price drop. Now, Sony is starting to make up that lost ground. Meanwhile, 360 sales did not suffer - 360 continues to sell consistently month to month. People continued to buy 360's in the past months even with the knowledge of PS3's impending price drop.
The PS3 price drop will help Sony, but will not hurt MS.
"Worst exclusive lineup ever"? About what I expe...

Forza wil never outsell GT because the Xbox 360 has never been defined by just one auto racing game. It has Forza 2, soon Forza 3, Project Gotham Racing 3 & 4, Race Pro, not to mention the only current generation version of Burnout Revenge. While Forza is clearly the best of the bunch, as well as the truest sim, there are many different games for racing fans to choose from. Therefore, one particular game will not constitute a bulk of the sales.
It's not his fault that Sony was unable to release a full game to compare to Forza 2. He can only compare what is out there at the time.
Forza slain by GT PSP? Why, because Forza 3 will have over 100 tracks, while GT PSP will have 35? Track variety is more important than dozens of copies of the same cars over and over.
100 tracks (Forza 3) vs. 60 tracks (GT5). Or are RACE tracks not important to a RACING game?
I'm a 360 guy, as most here know, but I'll admit it - I'm surprised. I didn't think the slim was real - mostly because I think the regular PS3 is already a really good looking machine (even better looking than the slim). I also didn't expect it to be announced for $299. Serious props to Sony - they've dropped a bomb, that's for sure.
I wonder if lines will form outside stores the night before the slim launch, like they did in 2006 for the original launch. That would be some...
Anyone with a brain will spend their hard earned money on whichever console has the games they want to play most. Could be PS3, could be 360, could be Wii, could even be PS2.
@FamilyGuy
Why settle for 80 tracks when you can have 100? Track variety, FAR more than car variety, give racers true depth.
Just like 400 cars is MORE than enough, yet many here are giddy over 1000 cars.
Since you would be happy with 40 or 60 tracks, you would probably also be happy with 400 cars, right?
BTW - having to resort to name-calling is the epitome of immaturity and desperation.
@3.18
ALL racers, including GT, have a rewind option: pause, then restart. Voila, you've rewound back to the beginning. Forza 3 just lets you rewind partially if you want.
I'll take 400 cars and over 100 tracks over 1000 cars and 80 tracks any day. Track variety is more important to game depth than car variety is.
There is a lot of truth to what you wrote here. I was especially annoyed at the recent "Top 10 reasons to own 360/PS3" articles that were posted here in the last week. You hit the nail right on the head in regards to that.
People are very quick to make excuses. "Media bias" is a convenient excuse for fanboys to use because a console that they despise has sold more.
This is like a sports team blaming the umpires when they play badly.
