You just want to believe that people buy multiple consoles - you have NO proof of that. As for defective consoles, they have no effect on installed base. Here's an example:

If I produce a console and sell 100 units, I now have an installed base of 100.
Let's say 30 of those are defective. Those 30 people send them back and are sent replacement consoles. The installed base is still 100.
Even if all 100 were defective and had to be replaced, the installed base w...

Last September, after the much-hyped 360 price cut, MS sold 347,000 units according to NPD. This September, after much smaller price cuts and re-configurations, MS sold 351,000 units. Plus, this year, the 360 was up against the new $299 PS3 slim, whereas last year, the PS3 was still $399. The 360 seems to be selling better versus tougher competition - hardly a sign of a console in decline.

This also brings up another contradiction in this article. The writer regurgitates th...

With the Konami code, I could play it over and over. 20+ years later, it's still unbelievably fun to play.

Then I guess EVERY game that averages 93 or less is a failure too.

Some people could have rented it.

The $199 Xbox 360 remained unchanged in price, but 360 sales still increased 63% over the prior month.

So much for the theory that the hard drive-less Arcade is the most popular 360 model.

You're right - they have been arrogant, However, I buy games based on the quality of the games, not the disposition of the developers.

There are MANY arrogant movie stars and directors - does it make people stop seeing their films?

There are many arrogant record producers and singers/artists - does it make people stop buying their records?

Sometimes it takes a certain level of arrogance in the personality of the creator of a game in order to mak...

The dozens of excellent - some perfect - reviews speak volumes about Forza 3's quality.

Forza 3 wouldn't average a 93 review score if they just rushed out a sequel & added a few bonuses.

EDIT @ Kirby - you're right. However, there are just as many sites that give bad reviews to good games just to get hits as there are sites that give out perfect reviews. In the end it all evens out.

We also bought around 100 million PS1's and PS2's combined. What was your opinion of Americans then? Were those consoles any good, or did we just give in to hype?

Street Fighter 4 should be on the list IMO. Was there a better fighting game this year?

It's multi-platform only if EVERY PC can play the game, which they can't.

My PC from 2005 can't play ANY of those - yet an Xbox 360 from 2005 will play them all perfectly, as will ALL 360's.

You have to remember that a review is an opinion of a game on that particular day, nothing more. Clearly, GTA4 has not stood the test of time as well as most other games on those lists. That doesn't change the fact that on the day it was reviewed, it was considered nearly perfect.

Why do you specifically say "to play WIRELESSLY online"? MW2 can be played EXACTLY the same with a wired connection, which costs nothing to set up. What about people who don't have a wireless network? Not everyone does.

You also do not need make a separate purchase of Xbox Live gold to play MW2 - if you already subscribe, you're good - no extra costs involved. If you don't, you can pay as little as $7.99 and be able to play online month by month. A full year subscrip...

That $400 includes a copy of Modern Warfare 2, as well as a second controller.

@above - that's completely irrelevant to this article. This is about a new SKU at a new price point, and what the new SKU offers.

It will be interesting to see the NPD numbers later. The 360 sold 205,000 and 215,000 units respectively in July and August. These were the last months that the PS3 was $399.

Now that the 360 is up against the $299 PS3, What do you think will happen to the 360's September sales when they are reported later? Will they go up or down from the previous months? This will be the first real test of how the 360 can "compete" (as you say) now that PS3 is cheaper.
