Check your facts. The Arcade wasn't the only version of the 360 to receive a price cut - the hard drive equipped Pro was reduced to $299. Are you seriously suggesting that the Pro model's price cut had no effect on the 360's sales increase?
That's been the PS3 fanboys view of the 360 for the last year - trying desperately to convince people that ONLY the $199 version sells.
"1) The $199 SKU is a much larger percentage of sales than you want to admit. 360 sales were pathetic until the price drop. The $199 also helped boost sales of the Premium in the same way that used car ads show a low priced car to draw people in to the store to buy a 360 where trained staff then talk them into buying something more expensive."
Sales were pathetic??? Even before the 360's price drop, the 360 was selling close to 200,000 units per month according to NP...
Destroyed??
I guess you'd see it that way if you're shallow enough to care only about graphics.
Forza fans crave the entire package - graphics, control, customization, audio, etc. Fanboys like Highwayman care only about graphics, as if great graphics = great overall game.
Your opinion of quality is just that - an opinion. Just because you think Uncharted is higher quality than some 360 games doesn't make it true. I have opinions of games that I think are higher quality than Uncharted, but mentioning them to you would be like talking to a brick wall - you'll just disagree and bring up your favorite PS3 games.
I admitted that Sony has a better 2009 exclusive lineup, but I didn't say that there are no good 360 exclusives this year.
...
I guess I'm delusional because I recognize that the Xbox 360 has more games rated 80+ on Metacritic than the PS3 does. That's a pretty solid measure of quality. There are 4 years worth of games to choose from on 360. Maybe Sony has put out better exclusives in 2009, but just because a game was released prior to 2009 doesn't reduce its quality.
This is a marathon, not a sprint. One year of high quality exclusives is not going to swing the pendulum in favor of one console, es...
Montrealien has a valid point. After all, don't PS3 fans say the same thing about lack of backwards compatability on most PS3's?
"edit: ooh ok I see. The numbers in the chart are world wide sells. Looks like most Americans need to get informed. I guess they don't know that popular not always means quality. And yes, I live in the US."
I live in the US and I care about American sales, because success in MY country will ultimately determine how many games get released that I can play. Why would anyone care about numbers for countries that they don't even live in?
You could say the same about Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, Madden, etc. Halo is NOT the most popular name in the video game universe.
Actually, 360 sales are UP around 30% since the PS3's price cut. Plus, based on what I've read here on N4G, the 360 did not have a price cut - it was simply an increase in hard drive space.
Shouldn't a drastic 25% price cut by your primary competitor hurt your sales? Seems quite the opposite is happening.
You have Gran Turismo?? You have God of War 3?? I didn't realize it was March, 2010 already. Who's more deprived - those playing great games now or in the next few weeks, or those waiting (and waiting, and waiting)?
He reminds me of the movie "American Beauty" - Chris Coopers's character. He constantly bashes gay people throughout the whole movie, but in the end it is revealed that he really is gay.
We all know Peter North is a Forza fan - he's just still in the closet.
Of course NFS looks better. Having played both NFS Shift and the Forza 3 demo, it's clear that EA cut corners in terms of control and car physics and handling to acheive a better looking game. I had high hopes for Shift, but it just can't compare to Forza where it counts the most - gameplay.
Of course, if you're shallow enough to care only about graphics, you have NFS (as well as other games) to choose from.
PS3 fans have no problem posting endless screenshots of GT5P and claiming "superiority" over Forza 3, yet when anyone compares them and declares Forza 3 better, suddenly the arguement becomes
"you can't compare a full game to a demo - it's not fair"
Typical N4G double standard.
The same can be said about the PS3's price cut. It's sales spiked immediately, and now they are coming back down to Earth. In the meantime, 360 sales continue increase steadily month by month.
It's interesting that 360 sales continue to rise each month despite Sony drastically slashing 25% off the PS3's price.
Shouldn't a huge price cut cause sales of your primary competitor to decrease? Quite the opposite is happening. While the 360 will not outsell PS...
No, actually it was PD themselves who said numerous times that GT can be released "any day now". Then, suddenly GT is only 65% complete, and at least 6 months away from release.
What happened in the time between the "any day" statement and the "65%" statement? Lets see, lots of Forza pictures and videos, culminating with the release of the Forza 3 demo. Just a coincidence??
I race against 42 other cars in Nascar 09. I guess it's better that GT, Forza, and Shift combined.
@1.2 - "having to compare forza 3 to a 2 year old game is embarrassing for turn 10"
@1.18 - "Forza 3 is being compared to GT5P?
Seriously? "
It's not Turn 10's fault that there is no full version of GT5 to compare it to. Forza 3 can only be compared to what exists.
It's more embarrasing for Sony that 3 installments of the higher rated Forza series will be released before the next GT installment is released.
Having played both NFS:Shift and Forza 2 and the Forza 3 demo, I have a few remarks.
NFS controls terribly. I was very disappointed at how the cars handle - very choppy and sluggish. I understand that it's an arcade racer and not a sim like Forza, but the 360's best arcade racer - Project Gotham Racing 4 - had much better control. Perhaps EA sacrificed in the areas of frame rate and realistic car physics in order to acheive better graphics.
The US is one country - it takes dozens of European countries combined to equal the US's numbers.
It's kind of like arguing that Tiger Woods is NOT the best golfer in the world because every other golfer has more wins COMBINED.
