@C64 - I note that most "reputable industry analysts" didn't predict, at all, the fabulous success of the Wii either. :-> I don't trust them to be able to predict which of Natal and Arc/Gem (if either) will catch on. The Natal/Arc thing is a wildcard, could go any which way.
I'm aware that the new Slims won't drive more sales, but I didn't say that. What I *said* was that they'll allow Sony to realize more profit on those sales (whether immediately if costs get low e...
Demos always take forever to download over wifi. One of the few annoyances of PSN. Oh well, I'll grab this and the Darksiders demo, and use that time to get the two-hour star in Braid. :->
@C64 - I wouldn't say it's quite that clear that Natal will be a bigger hit than the Arc or Gem or whatever. They're both a little too new to say for sure whether *either* will be a hit. Both of them, properly marketed, have the potential to cut into the Wii's future sales, though.
In any case, the 'loss on hardware' is a *much* smaller percentage these days (if any in the recent revisions, and Sony's bringing out two new models of Slim which apparently have less expensive wirele...
More than two USB ports is nice. I got the 40GB fat and added the "Nyko Media Hub" gadget. Adds two extra USB ports and an SD/MS card reader. The extra USB ports do come in handy - charging, the Eye, a Guitar Hero dongle, etc.
That said, I didn't see anything in the article that talked about extra USB ports or anything...
...was really good. Not perfect, but very well done. The Marine campaign started out so creepy. It took a while to throw the first Alien at you, building tension along the way...
Yeah, I'd hope they move the inFamous story forward instead of rehashing things. I still think getting a sequel out in a year is pretty rushed, too. Not that I don't *want* more inFamous, I just want it to be *good*.
I might buy this just to help encourage developers to try new things. If we don't actually do something to reward innovation, we have only ourselves to blame when all the games are rehashes of previous IP...
Sure, they've got an engine, and art assets they can tweak, but making a whole new game in like a year and a half? That can be done... but I dunno if you can make a *good* game in a year and a half.
If they had a lot of good ideas and half-developed code they couldn't finish by release, maybe. They did a very good job on the last one, and I think they'd probably want to make the best game they could.
They'd need to make some engine tweaks, too. Sequels need to have b...
...not two years. I know you're just trolling, but come on, put some effort into it! Either quote actual facts in a misleading manner, or if you can't manage that, stick with opinions. Factually incorrect statements are a newbie troll tool.
I take the opposite tack. I tend to get games later, after their price drops. My gaming time is precious and rare, and I'd prefer to play games that are known to be good.
Every once in a while, though, I'll see a game that intrigues me enough to pre-order. The last one was inFamous, and the 'pre-order bonus' was enough to tip it over.
...that's interesting. Most movie tie-in games are forced to follow the movie's story. Sure, they add filler and extra side-quests and stuff, but they've had to follow the overall arc of the movie.
For IM2, they're not stuck with the movie's story. That could help. Like everyone else says, though, they've got a lot to prove.
Those are seriously fun games. Hell, I'm thinking about buying them again just so I can install them wherever.
The original PC AvP's system requirements were claimed to be "P3 or Athlon 450 MHz or higher, 128MB RAM or higher, 16MB DirectX 8 compatible D3D video card, etc."
But it was difficult to play with that hardware - and when there were more than one or two aliens on screen, it became a slideshow. I definitely needed an upgrade to play it well.
Maybe Rebellion's being honest this time, but I'd bed the "recommended" requirements are the *practical* min...
Procedurally generated content is the only possible savior. There are games that generate new adventures and missions and so forth dynamically - some of the earliest games did that (see: Rogue, Nethack). Scaling it up to a 3D game is complicated... but whoever cracks that is going to become very, very rich.
The studio doing this version, Rebellion, also did the first AvP for the PC back in the mid-90s. It was good - not perfect, but a lot of fun. (AVP2 was also fun but a little different; it was done by Monolith.)
I'm pretty hopeful for this game.
orange-skittle - harrisk954 and lordgodalming pointed out R&C used the Sixaxis.
inFamous used it to steer the lightning storm, and it worked well.
Uncharted 1&2 use it for grenades and it's optional for some ledge scaling. Uncharted 2 did drop it for balancing across bridges, though.
@supremacy - "the ability to continue charging my ps3 controller and downloading items off the store while the ps3 is on sleep mode."
Isn't that "Life With Playstation"? You can even set it to turn off after the work unit is done...
Yup, like "The Last One" says, the PS3's hardware is *different*. Let's try a car analogy. An engine that burns gasoline is designed differently from an engine that burns diesel fuel. It can't be any other way. Thankfully, you can design a car such that you can put in a gasoline *or* diesel engine, and it'll be okay. Not optimal, but pretty good.
But what if you have to design it to accommodate not just gas and diesel, but rechargeable batteries, too? Gas and diesel are...
Rebellion did the first AvP game on the PC, and it was good. Not perfect, but one of the first games that I completely finished - all three campaigns.
I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.
...and the hardware clock in the Slim PS3s is different from the hardware clock in the Fatties. Even so, I was able to play a couple games yesterday on my Fat 40GB. I played fl0w in the morning and even got a trophy, no problem.
Last night ~10pm EST I played some of that silly "Watchmen: End Is Nigh" beat-em-up. (Hey, it came with the movie.) The game played fine, but I noticed that I didn't get a couple trophies I should have. I then tried to sign onto the PSN ~11pm, a...
