...banning a bunch of cheaters right before the release of a major online title is a *good* thing for a company to do.
Not saying that sales had no influence - heck, it might even have been the primary influence - but policing cheaters is something console makers *have* to do.
Your console's been banned, but you still have X months to go on your Live account. You paid for it, it's a bunch of hoops to jump through to cancel it... or you could just pick up a new Arcade and move the disk over. It also helps keep people invested in the 360 if their console fails for technical reasons.
That has to be balanced against the people who are put off by having to pay for online play, of course. But MS has tried to price the 360 lower than the PS3, which helps offs...
I'm in. First day, unless something really terrible happens.
I'll get to UC2, but I'll be one of the reasons it'll have legs - I have to get and finish UC1 first. Xmas is coming...
Scott667 - sorry to hear about your dad. I still have to say, though, that piracy was probably not the only factor that led to the developer closing.
As the cryptographic expert Bruce Schneier wrote, "Trying to make bits uncopyable is like trying to make water not wet. The sooner people accept this, and build business models that take this into account, the sooner people will start making money again." That's one of the reasons the industry's shifting to DLC and episodi...
On the second island you start getting some of the really fun powers, and the story picks up. Give it another try sometime, if you get a chance.
Honestly, the "Gigawatt Blades" didn't make much of a difference. Cole can get swamped easily if he closes on too many enemies, and if he's near just a few, standard melee works pretty well.
About the only time it's useful is hopping onto an occupied rooftop; if there's a bad guy right next to you, you can one-hit kill them and then tackle the rest. But even then, I hardly ever ended up using it.
If you're good - spam megawatt hammers when he pauses. If you're evil - fully upgraded arc lightning, and not just when he pauses.
Actually, the game slows down a little at the point you were at, but picks up pretty well toward the end of the second island. You get some pretty nice powers then, too.
As DaTruth says, the 'hype' came almost entirely from the comparisons with Prototype. InFamous was certainly not a bad game - I enjoyed it enough to platinum it, and had a blast.
Yeah, the PC is for the best graphics, the most complex and responsive interfaces... and the highest cost, most technical issues and, all too often, most obnoxious DRM.
The consoles are for decent graphics, standardized interfaces... and lower cost and trouble.
There are people who prefer the PC, and people who prefer the console, and even those who don't care. The PC is always going to have better graphics, and you're always going to pay more for that. If it's worth...
@mal_tez92 - Definitely an upgraded Cell. Faster clock, more SPUs for sure. *Possibly* an extra PPE (the "standard" CPU core). But it'll be backward-compatible with the existing Cell so they won't have to include extra hardware to play PS3 games.
Then it's just more RAM, upgraded graphics. They might take a page from the 360 and include an equivalent to the EDRAM buffer the 360 uses to get scaling and AA "for (almost) free".
I don't think the PS4 ...
I picked up inFamous day 1, but other than that I stick to used or older games. Saves money, and I know which games are good. This xmas, I should get Uncharted 1 and maybe Lair. By the time my birthday comes 'round, Brutal Legend, Batman: AA, and Uncharted 2 should be discounted.
Though I admit, there are downsides: http://xkcd.com/606/
Once you've downloaded something, it's still there in your history, and you can download it again. I did a full backup of my PS3 before I reformatted the drive, then the restore failed.
I was able to re-download all my PSN stuff, including a couple time-limited bonuses like the "Chamber" apartment for Playstation Home. I suspect this DLC will be the same way. Sony's far from perfect, but they've been pretty good about not grubbing for every extra penny when it comes to ...
Gotta admit, socomnick, for a troll you've got courage. Figboy listed a bunch of things Resistance did well - including unique weapons, the weapon wheel itself, excellently done co-op, etc. etc. - and you answer it by...
...well, you don't actually *answer* it. You just say what boils down to, "Nu-uh! Is not!"
Most trolls would at least *try* to dispute *something*, but you - no. There's a kind of Zen perfection to your vacuity. Well done, at least for that...
I'm cautiously hopeful. Innovations don't always work out. HR certainly *looks* promising, but it could also become an epic train wreck if it's not handled properly. And telling a story well isn't always enough, if it turns out to be telling a bad story.
Don't get me wrong, I have high hopes, and I'm the first to encourage audacious experiments. But I'm definitely going to need to see reviews first.
...if you already have Uncharted 2. Oy.
I've got kids and sometimes the only time for games I get is when they're around - so being able to turn off the swear words and gore is almost a requirement for me. That feature was the swing vote that made me put this game on my xmas list.
...there's no way to make a quality movie that fast.
Of course, even though I loved inFamous, I also know that movies made from games have essentially always been cursed with suck. I almost don't *want* to hope that inFamous could be different, just because the inevitable disappointment would hurt more.
@drunk pandas - Sure, 90% of everything is crap. But when there's what, two million levels, and lots of people rating them, it's not hard at all to find good levels to play on LBP...
Why do I fear it'll be a male character? That'd help protect them from charges of sexism...
