If video games are supposed to be ALL about fun then no wonder people (non-gamers) keep thinking they're only for kids. Books and movies can either be fun and realistic when presenting their stories. A comedy about the civil war would throw realism out the window (add a couple of dinosaurs to be sure)while a historical piece would try as hard as possible to make sure the wagon wheels move correctly to the time period. So why can't video games do the same?

"I can see why developers are abandoning the PC market..."
And yet here we have Ubisoft making a Free-to-play Ghost Recon exclusively for the PC...it's basically DLC-On-Demand. Sony is reviving Planetside MMO and Microsoft already have Age of Empire Online.
So much for abandoning the PC.
DLCs have a 50/50 chance of being a hit while F2P or subscription based payment tend to generate revenue almost consistently.
Not only there were tech demos, Microsoft even promoted it as a Windows Vista exclusive (no XP version). I even prepared my previous PC for it and was about tho get Vista. Then, Microsoft announced it will be an X Box 360 exclusive since horror survival games is better played on the couch...
It could and nearly happened with all game through all platforms. I think I've seen some examples in the older consoles. There was huge potential in the current consoles (both have internet connections, hard disks and usb ports) for having mod tools of their own.
Then the DLCs appear. Why let gamers make their own content for free when you can force them to buy the ones you made?
On the flipside, DLCs made modding a PC exclusive.
These modders are just warming up for the real thing (the creation kit). Can't wait to see what mayhem they can do once the kit is out.
The Best Jet Kill video is set in Battlefield 2....
Did miss I misread the article's title?
I agree that it can be misused as a crutch but in this game it is valuable. In BF3 everyone can go dive down and hide in bushes. They can even hide half of their body into concrete walls or rocks. Both examples make campers became harder to spot especially when they are in the shadows or in tunnels. IRNV is an obvious counter to these techniques. Like the IRNV visors in Crysis 2 help to counter players in cloaked mode.
I really need to ask this : Did DICE...deliberately turn...
I still have some of the older games in my PC. Some look dated and pale compared to the latest games (obviously) in my PC but like a lot of console gamers love to say : "...great graphic is not relevant/important in a game..." I have the choice to let old games stay as it is or get a HD pack from modders (Oblivion, anyone?). The choice is there and there are plenty of it.
Plus, from what I've seen console gamers have to re-buy PS2 classics. Granted they have bee...
Oh...Ok, then.
Croteam is an indie developer?
So did I. The first thing I did in Caspian was trying to enter the small white truck near the Russian base's entrance. They have so much potential.
Gathering a lot of them together to block off some of the chokepoints. Setting them as mobile IED traps. Road kill mayhem. A police car with sirens on (packed with C4s, of course) chasing a tank would be funny to watch.
Or...all of the 64 players get into a car each and start some sort of race around the large...
The Frenech did put recoilless guns on scooters for their paratroopers.
Don't tempt them! You know they want to, they are just waiting for an excuse to do so. Remember the Prince of Persia (2008) that came out without a DRM? It was a trap so that Ubi can make an even worse version of the original DRM.
With ACR that doesn't use the infamous DRM, they are just waiting for torrent numbers go up and then announce the next AC WILL in fact be F2P.
Attack helicopters, transport helos, IFVs, air superiority fighters, tanks, jeeps, buggies, trucks, MAVs, mortars....and hovering F-35s.
I guess strolling around at that beach alone is not a very good idea.
I wished I could agree with you...but rumour has it that Microsoft had planned 2 next gen X Box skus, looking for more X Box exclusives for next gen and so far Windows 8 is primarily a ticket to get into the lucrative mobile devices that Android and Apple dominate.
Based on Micorsoft's treatment of PC gaming over the past several years (just count how many Windows games Microsoft had produced/published since the XBox360 was launched and compare it to the Xbox 360's l...
@kevnb and torchic.
Totally agree. I used to play PC games in 30fps on during the time when Carmack was relevant to gaming world. When I discovered 60 fps...I refused to go anywhere near 30fps (realistically between 40-60fps). 30fps is way too near to the edge when we will see the game stutters. 40-60fps will have plenty of headroom that you won't see the game stutters.
In some games that are forced to adhere to 30fps limits like Split Second, the differ...
Even high level characters in Borderland are called Badass
I like it. Been at it for hours non stop. It even cut into my BF3 mp time.
I really don't mind the repetition in combat. Besides, what game doesn't have repetition in its gameplay? FPS players have been doing the exact same thing for decades - shoot stuff. While RPG players have been trading loot, mashing monsters and casting magic all the time. Arcade fighters...well...you know, repetition.
Repetition is important in games whether you like it or not....
Agree with kneon.
Cerberus had enough money to fund a clandestine network that stretch across the universe against advanced aliens. They had spent a fortune to get Shepard back to life. They even rebuilt the same ship with extra bells and whistles on it.
Then, Shepard had to go and mine some planets to get money to fund his/her own upgrades. While some ancient alien is out there tearing the universe apart (in which only humans, one of the youngest space trav...
I don't mind new types of aliens, especially in mp. It'll add diversity and more ways to frustrate Marine players.
