I work at Gamestop, and customers wanting to buy a new system ask these three main questions: 1) What is the deal with the Wii, do you have them in stock, and do you think it is worth buying (Not sure, yes, all of the time now, and I think its mostly for casual players or children.) 2) When is the PS3 going to drop in price? Has everyone heard of the concept of good vs. evil? The sides in WWII were as clear cut as it can get. Far from deviating from history, Call of Duty world at war seems a litte TOO acurate for some people I think. The Germans embarked on an unprovoked, rehensible attack on their neibors in the name of world domination, and perpetuated the Holocost at the same time. If it were illegal in any way, companies like Gamestop wouldn't do it. Make a game compeling enough, and people will pay full price for it. I think used game sales have a lot of positive benefits-- say your not really a shooter fan, but you hear so much about Gears of War that you pick up a used copy to check it out, and really like it. I work at Gamestop, and the day the game shipped we had a customer who received a full band set with no cymbals. We had him come back, we opened a different box, gave him the cymbals, then returned the box we opened to Activision as defective. A couple of days later, we were told that Activision would not honor any returns from us (Gamestop) and they wanted us to refer customers to them directly and gave us a contact # and email. I work at Gamestop, and its all about pushing and pimping Guitar Hero world tour. When people ask us about this, we are instructed to claim ignorance since we are not about to send customers to a competitor. My friend who works at Best Buy tells people who ask him that it is just confusion-- the album is available only at wal-mart, but the AC DC tracks will eventually be DLC. With all the other games coming out in November, I think this one will get lost in the shuffle....
First, the disc uses the Rock Band 1 engine, and has cut most of the features of the retail game-- it should be dlc, and for half the price. Second, selling it only at Wal-Mart? At all the blinded fanboys who swore yoda/vader would NEVER appear on the other system, after all, they were EXCLUSIVE! Well, exclusive apparently has lost its meaning-- Tekken 6 is just the newest example of that.
So how can this cause MS to lose credibility? Even if they are offering monetary incentives to companies to publish on their system, isn't the end result more games for more people to play? Kind of a win/win if you ask me, because all these games are still coming out on PS3, right?
So you can't fault Designers and Publishers for trying to make a little extra $ on all their hard work. It is less about MS "stealing" these games than it is them providing the platform and incentives for 3rd party publishers to take advantage of. People who have had the RROD, but also know 4 or 5 who have their launch system running fine. I am on my second, but no RROD, my kids broke the drive on the first one by pushing on the tray to close it. Have had new 360 for a year and a half and no problems. For game companies, but not much. Used DVD's and CD's have been sold for years, and they cost $10 to $25 new. New games cost $60!!!! About people turning the 360's price drop into a negative. First of all, all three sku's dropped in price. This is a good thing. With the arcade now lower in price, that puts (a little) pressure on Nintendo to lower the price of the Wii. And with the other two sku's lower than the only readily available PS3 sku, that might force Sony to consider a price drop before Christmas, as well.
