Amazing technology for sure, but it still needs to show usefull and meaningfull applications for this technology to justify its incluision with every One at a premium price.
@ ziggurcat
How do you prove a negative? Thats like trying to prove you didn't fart on the plane. Whomever made the claims that the PS4 camera can do all that should provide evidence.
MS should sell the Kinect and not rely on third party developers to sell it for them. They want to include Kinect in every box than they need to justify the higher price they are charging. Yet NOT ONE Kinect game available for launch. Not One feature that gives a wow factor. Just more promises of what it might bring. Even Ryse which was supposed to be a Kinect game was remade to use a controller. Good move as they probobly saved Ryse from the shovelware bin.
MS needs to drop the Kinect fetish fast. They continually push it and promote it as some sort of magical game changing device, yet they have nothing to show for it. $100 more for a system to experince some hollow and gimmicky features like saying "Xbox On" and profile and settings loading when changing controllers. We're supposed to get excited at the thought of paying a premium for a system to have new ways of navigating the UI?
Putting one in every box so de...
Sony has the right idea in replacing the cable box entirely. MS should have offered a cable service through the One instead of still requiring a seperate cable subscription and cable box plugged into the console.
Where is Phil getting all these magical experiences from? I think he's taken to many magical mushrooms if he thinks $100 is worth the hollow features he touted to justify Kinect. No matter what anyone thinks of Kinect, if the $100 price increase due to it causes drastically less sales than its not good for the One.
Sony was smart enough to get rid of him, they've been doing better and better since they got rid of him. Unfortunately MS decided to take him on and has made all the same mistakes with the One as Sony did with the PS3. Third console curse. As for Kinect, if it hurts sales due to higher price than its not good for the One. Period.
If the Kinect features are optional then why delay the release in those countries? They would just have to wait a few more months to get the voice integration. Looks like another way the Kinect is going to end up being the Achilles Heal for the One.
pretty simple math. 200 billion.
If they improve their rating system for games it would help. Seems like every game on Xbox marketplace, no matter bad, gets at least 4 stars. MS needs to introduce a more accurate and usable rating/review system
"The placement of the sticks on the lower, inside part of the controller gives the harder motions of your thumb(up and down) a leg-up over the easier ones(left and right), meaning that you've got more equal movement in all directions."
I have to strongly disagree with that statement. Up and down movement is much easier with the stick in top left since your thumb naturally faces up and down. If anything, the DS would make left and right movement easier. Howeve...
My body is symetrical as well but like most normal people if I lay my hand down on a table in a relaxed state my thumb will face up and not off to a 90 degree angle from my hand.
Xbox controller (and pretty much every other controller from both 1st and 3rd party) allows your left thumb to be placed at the analog stick; which is used primarily over the d-pad since 3d gaming became the norm; in a more natural relaxed position. If Sony's thumbstick is placed in a more natur...
The controller is the one thing that gives me hesitation on getting a PS4. The d-pad being in the dominant position, and not the left thumbstick, is still a throwback to when thumbsticks were an afterthought.
"The grips are designed in such a way that your thumbs naturally fall upon the thumbsticks without uncomfortable arching." This sentance though provides hope that the DS4 will alleviate the unnatural thumb positioning required for the DS3. It is clear though...
After spending 2 minutes going through the police booking like scanning process, you get to hold your arms out in front of you for extended periods of time. I used to do that in basic training, but it was for punishment. This also proves why most prefer a controller.
I agree, better than forgetting to recharge your battery pack and the only option being to plug in a wire to charge it turning your wireless controller into a wired one
what do you want, a solar powered controller?
@edterry
and if you forget to recharge the controller what option do you have? Oh, plug it in and play with a short wired controller.
how is this different than the 360? If you get a wireless 360 controller and want a rechargeable battery pack you have to buy it seperately as well. This is an improvement since now you can turn the wireless controller into a wired one if you want. I personally like using AA batteries; quick to change and always have some lying around. Better than playing and realizing your battery is dead and have to be stuck turning it into a wired controller while it charges.
Sony, if for no other reason than price
I love Halo, its the game that got me back into console gaming and made me an Xbox fan, but MS is milking it dry. The first 4 halo games (1-3 and Reach) came out every three years which allows a long enough development time without getting sick of the game. Every two years is too often and causes Halo fatigue. Halo 4 is a great game, but if 343 would have spent another year developing it, it would have been more complete, such as implemented skill ranking. MS would also have had an even b...
