I know enough about Kinect to know I don't care for motion or voice controls; or face recognition or fitness games. My concern with Kinect is developers will use it making it a requirement to use.

This is what I'm affraid of with Kinect, that they will nudge you into using it. I agree and would rather just press a button. Talking to my tv is not appealing.

I'd rather get the PS4 because it doesn't require me to spend an extra $100 for a worthless accessory I have no desire for.

Developers don't care how many Kinects are out there, they care about how many people use Kinect. Any develpoer that incorporates Kinect in their games is going to look at its popularity by use, not by numbers. 20 million Kinects doesn't mean squat if only 1 million are plugged in and being used. If I bought an Xbone and didn't use Kinect why would developers be more inclined to use it? In fact, any game that incorporates Kinect could potentially be a turn off to those that do...

I hope they adopt something similar to TrueAchievements that reflects the difficulty/commonality of achievements as a ratio of how many have it vs how many have the game. A system that ranks gamers, and their gamerscore, as a more accurate portayal of what they achieved relative to other gamers. Give more than just a a list of what you've done, but give a percentage of how many others have done it as well.

I would find it all a little easier to swallow if MS was at least honest about their intentions instead of talking in circles and outright lying. There is enough content to write a book on all the lies and deciet surrounding the Xbone. Don't insult my intelligence by telling me how "magical" using Kinect is to turn the console on. Admit you wanted used game restrictions to try and make money in the used games market, not becuase publishers wanted it. Admit you wanted mandato...

Its no surprise Kinect's primary purpose is to gather data and sell it to third parties and allow for smart advertising. Its the biggest reason why they push it so hard yet have little to justify it. It has the potential to be a cash cow. Imagine being able to tell advertisers how many people were watching any given content at any given time. I'm sure they wouldn't even consider this "private" data.

The defualt setting will most likely be to allow ...

If only MS would come clean and admit the real reason for mandatory Kinect with every console is to use it to make more money from advertising and sell data collected. I'll assume for arguments sake what they say is true; that you control what they collect and how they use it and hooking up Kinect is optional without any strings attached. They are still counting on the fact that most people will hook it up since its included and most will be online. Most also will just accept the terms...

What exactly is a standard consumer electronics waranty? Three months? Why couldn't he just answer the question with a simple time frame.

What exactly does MS consider personal data? This doesn't mean they aren't collecting general trends, such as number of viewers watching any given show. There still is vast potential for MS to rake in millions selling data to third parties without any of it being "private". Nothing wrong with that per se, but don't push Kinect with BS about using it is a magical experince and the best thing in gaming since color tv. It's an insult, especially when its obvious it&...

wow, I sure wish the 360 had this than I could post for posterity myself unlocking all the lame Halo 4 achievements like Badge and PWND. Really proud of those difficult and hard earned skill based achievements.

Right, Kinect was included for gaming, which is why there is a must have Kinect exlusive to highlight all its superb capabilities at launch. Developers aren't any more inclined to use Kinect becuase every console has one than they would if every console didn't. The market for those that want Kinect and Kinect functionality would still be the same (ie those that would buy it seperately). Don't think for a second MS is shoving Kinect in every box becuase of what it can do for you....

Until the next dashboard update that suddenly requires Kinect be plugged in. Or MS shoehorning Kinect functionality in every game and app it can so that by default you have to plug it in to use anything. All so MS can make a good fortune while you pissed away an extra $100 for an accessory you yourself said you wouldn't use by not plugging it in.

4500d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

The big deal is this kind of marketing and data mining stuff is the real reason MS is pushing Kinect so much. They don't care about the gaming aspect of it, if they did there would be at least one decent Kinect title at launch to highlight its new capabilities. Its a potentially huge money maker for MS and goes in hand with their original plans to require Kinect to be hooked up and have mandatory online checks. They did away with those requirements, for now, but they also realize most ...

What are you trying to say, and what does Sony have to do with China???

4500d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

With all the money MS will reap from selling data collected from Kinect and ads, they should be able to undercut Sony's price. How about $299, then I wouldn't mind as much having Kinect included. I'll be damned though if I spend an extra $100 for a useless accessory I have no intention of using so MS can make more money from ads.
As for it not being required to be plugged in...yeh right, until the next dashboard update. Either that or they require games to have Kinect...

The stupid mistakes Microsoft didn't fix.
1. The price. With Kinect included in every box its still $100 more expensive then PS4. All for a peripheral and uses half the fan base does not want.
2. Non-removable hdd. With games HAVING to be installed to the hdd and downloaded content becoming more prevelant 500GB is small, especially considering how large games are going to be. Becuase of this, the hdd is more likely to fail and since its not removable it won't be as...

Don't forget the flip side of the coin. MS can collect data on its users (use your imagination) and sell that data to the highest bidder. I'm sure cable companies, for example, would love to know how many people are sitting on the couch watching a particular show. MS stands to make a fortune selling all kinds of data to third parties.

Becuase playing the same games with better graphics on the more powerfull console bought at a cheaper price makes you feel good inside.
