I don't remember anyone questioning Sony for putting a DVD drive in the PS2, though I could be wrong. Keep in mind, DVD's weren't really competing against CD's, but primarily against VHS. People weren't buying movies on CD's. DVD would've won in the end with or without the PS2, but the PS2 certainly helped by being the cheapest DVD player at the time.
Also, the PS2 starting getting credit far earlier than last year - its ridiculous library of games more than made up for any ...
While it's true that soon all channels will be forced to broadcast in digital rather than analog on February 17th 2009 (NOT this year), and thus all new TV's will be digital (if they aren't already), it does NOT mean all broadcasts will be in HD, nor that all TV's will be HD. Analog TV's will still work, you just have to have a digital to analog converter. Please do some research before posting.
Some people who own HDTV's don't even understand how to actually get HD on it. T...
I can only assume the magical broadband faerie will come and give everyone super-fast connections.
Fact: if you leave a dial-up modem under your pillow, you will wake-up with a brand new cable modem! And a headache.
I'm not sure we're talking about the same game, then...
It's adorable, they really thought they could complete with Google in the internet world with Yahoo!'s help.
Do people even use Yahoo! anymore? I figured it was sort of like the WordPerfect of the internet search/email world.
Also, if they're going to work on a third console, I wish it'd be a handheld.
XBox Live on a handheld system would be slick, if they did it right. The big problem with Live right now is that it's a really tight, well-integrated system that exists on essentially one platform. Yes, there are a few Live-enabled PC games, and I'm sure the 4 users of Live on PC will disagree with me, but for the most part, it's an online infrastructure that could greatly benefit from a multi-platf...
I'd be careful ever praising an unreleased game's graphics.
Graphics can change subtantially even after screenshots/movies have been released to the public. I'm not saying KZ2 won't live up to the graphical hype, I'm just saying wait for it to come out before you say it matched the E3 2005 trailers. Remember Motorstorm.
It's going to take a lot longer for Blu-Ray to get accepted into the mainstream than DVD ever did.
Why? Simple. DVD movies looked and played subtantially better on a standard TV than VHS movies did. It was a huge, and obvious, improvement.
Blu-Ray and HD-DVD movies are prettier and sound better, but unless you have an HDTV, it's not really worth it. And most people STILL don't have HDTV's. DVDs also offered scene selection and special features, something VHS...
This just in:
All three companies are already working on their next consoles. Of course they are. To NOT be working on their next console would be foolish. Also, don't think that the success of the Wii doesn't have both Sony and Microsoft scrapping some ideas and trying to counter, because it does.
A few rumors of "Some random titled slipped into the next-next-gen" isn't evidence that Microsoft will release the XBox 3-Billion anytime soon. Certain t...
"it`s not because x360 is american product, it`s because x360 doesn`t offer more then ps3 does."
So why didn't they buy the 360 during its first year of release? They even aimed to had a big game designed to cater to the Japanese market - Blue Dragon. It may not've been well received here, but if I recall, Famitsu gave it a pretty glowing review. And yet - no consoles solid.
I also won't get into the "Which is a better buy, PS3 or 360?" deb...
Unless they are announcing the purchase of Sony or Nintendo, I doubt it will do much to help sales there, sadly.
The Japanese just don't seem interested in an American-made console. I can't entirely blame them - I imagine the RRoD fiasco didn't help the 360's (or Americam-made products in general) reputation much. It's a shame, because the system's got a lot of games they'd probably like, if more than 7 people in the country owned one.
article: ...not.
This wouldn't be a big surprise, as it didn't sell terribly well on the 360.
Here's a question the article DIDN'T consider -
What will the 360's year head start tell us about future console releases?
The jump-start of the 360 inspired many third party developers to port games to the 360 that might not have otherwise seen the light of day on the console - DMC4, I'm looking at you. It's a pretty basic fact that earlier release = larger userbase = more profitable to release a game for that console.
However, with the 360's ea...
But this one has a shocking twist -
Did you know the PS1 and PS2 were both incredibly successful but the success of the PS3 has been in doubt and 2008/2009 will determine its fate?!
The author of this article is clearly conscious AND able to state the completely obvious!
I sort of want to click "Add alternate source" and then type in "Anyone paying attention at all for the last year", but I'd probably get in trouble.
So, the PS3 is going to do well in 2008?
Wow, this is a completely original thought, and certainly hasn't been stated over and over by anyone who has been paying attention to the gaming world for the past year.
I really need to stop reading about GTA4.
Every word I read just makes me want the stupid game more, which means the wait is that much worse.
It doesn't help that some people only have 20 or 40 gigs of HD space on their PS3, and that if every game starts to require a substantial install, well, that space is going vanish quickly. And yeah, you can delete what you've already installed, but this just further blurs the line between PC and console.
If I want to install a game and tinker with settings, I'll it install it on my PC with 300 gigs HD space. If I want to buy a game, pop it in, and know it will work without a ...
Please read my post. I didn't say the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray was trivial or unnoticeable. I just said it wasn't as significant as DVD vs. VHS. DVD offered more things over VHS than just pictire/audio quality.
What I'm saying is that not enough people have the HDTV's needed to SEE the difference in DVD vs. VHS, and may not have them for a few years yet. If you really think DVD will be dead in the next couple of years, then you're sorely mistaken.
