Anyone putting their faith in digital downloads simply doesn't understand the inherent social aspects of having a physical copy.
I can lend physical games and movies to my friends. I can't do so with a digital copy - at least not without a good deal more work. Take, for instance, the TV show Firefly - it got really popular after it was cancelled because the fans were lending the DVD collection of the series to friends of theirs, who then went and bought their own copies. You...
I agree, at least for awhile, physical media will continue to dominate. I pre-ordered Sins of a Solar Empire as just a digital download, but after release, I paid a bit more to get sent a box, CD, and manual.
I know enough about computers, software, and hardware to NOT trust them to keep track of all of my games, movies, etc. Besides, what if a friend wants to borrow a movie or a game? "Here, take my hard drive"? Yeah, I don't think so.
I'm sure being able to take the guitar apart was a good idea, in theory.
But diving the guitar up in such a way that each side had a "connector" piece that was out in the open and could easily get dirty/dusty/damaged was incredibly stupid, and whoever came up with that little design plan should be beaten with a Guitar Hero 2 X-Plorer until he or she apologizes.
Seriously, how did having the controller connectors out in the open for a game where contro...
This reminds me of the time I went to 3 video game stores in 1 night and 2 of the 3 360 display units I saw had the RRoD.
I love my 360 (for the most part), but Microsoft almost seems to be going out of its way to put my fondness for the system to the test.
Sweet!
The price drop ensures the PS2's victory, and proves the inevitable triumph of DVD over VHS in the format war. Finally we can all stop living in the past and embrace the future.
Nice! I just finished this game on Friday, and it was quite the ride.
Some things the article didn't mention:
- 50 new random NPCs to differentiate appearance more
- English script entirely re-done to improve the quality
- ALL of these new updates will be available as a download for people who already have the game
Very, very nice. CD Projekt just earned my loyalty for any future products.

'According to BetaNews, Albert Penello, director for global marketing at Microsoft, revealed that while his company will continue to back the HD-DVD for the 360, that because of the external drive capability of the Xbox, that it would be also possible to ship a Blu-ray drive for the game machine if HD-DVD didn't survive the batt...
Sony has very little control on whether or not Microsoft can create a Blu-ray drive. They have a large stake in the propietary format, but they don't own the right to actually *create* the drives.
Microsoft has LONG said that they could release a Blu-ray add-on if it became the clear victor of the format wars:
"With the announcement of an external HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360, Microsoft looked to clearly choose sides in the format war. However, all is not black-and-white in the business, according to Peter Moore. In an interview with Japanese website ITmedia, Moore noted that, if the format war concluded with Blu-Ray as the clear winner, Microsoft could release an ...
Yeah, there's a lot of more things like that then people realize.
Sure, Microsoft and Sony are technically in competition, but they're also forced to "cooperate" on a number of things, too.
It's not like Nintendo vs. Sega in the 90s, where they were both primarily gaming companies and would've been thrilled if the other had gone out of business. Both MS and Sony have their hands in so many pots it's impossible for them to not share a few of those pots ...
This headline is misleading.
"The 360 will get a Blu-ray add-on" is a lot different than "Microsoft plans a Blu-ray 360".
It's almost certain Microsoft already has an external Blu-ray prototype drive. They'd be stupid NOT to.
Is this really any different than the other "HD-DVD is dead" stories?
Can we just not post anything more about the format war until the HD-DVD group comes out and says "LOL WE GOT PWNED".
I don't agree with a lot of the ordering on the list, though I do place Homeworld at #1 and Sins of a Solar Empire about where it is. That game is magic.
The term "Wii fanboys" doesn't really encourage "friendly or civilized discussion." Take it next door. Thanks.
This is a very valid concern, I think. If you buy a gaming PC these days - where every game requires an install, honestly - it would be laughable to get a 20 gig, 40 gig, or even an 80 gig drive. Granted, you put more on it than just games - but you theoretically do with the PS3, too.
Heck, sometimes I think my 300 gig PC isn't enough.
The good news is that, unlike the 360, you can upgrade the HD with any over-the-counter drive. The bad news is, not enough peo...
Honestly, we'll see how much of a fad it is/was when the next generation of consoles are out.
The Wii has been too successful for Microsoft and Sony to NOT have SOME sort of motion control (beyond the basic motion sensing of the SIXAXIS, I mean) in their next consoles.
On the other hand, by definition it's more of a fad than either other console, if only because it simply doesn't have the horsepower to remain a viable console for any more than 2 or 3 more years.
...
Less whining, more Mass Effect-creating.
No problem :)
This is the Age of Conan MMO for PC and (eventually) 360, not the Conan game released earlier this year.
I'm all for freedom of speech, but I still wish we could legally beat people who say crap like this.
