You've incredibly naive if you think the presidential election being about "voting for the person you like the most" is something that's only come about recently because of the "American Idol generation hijacking the system."
The presidential election has always been and will always continue to be, to some extent, a popularity contest.
Why do you think Bush beat Gore in 2000? People felt Bush was the canidate they could "sit down and hav...
By 2017 I should be able to enter a Virtual Reality Middle Earth and fight alongside Eowyn myself!
Mmm...Eowyn...
I agree wholeheartidly. Everytime a politician blames music, or TV, or video games for something, it just gives bad parents an excuse to use rather than accepted they've failed their children and need to do a better job in the future.
Good points, but really, I'm not sure anything mattered once the PS3 was out.
Including Blu-ray in the PS3 was the perfect way to ensure that there would almost certainly be more Blu-ray players in households than HD-DVD players. And at that point, you've already lost.
Including HD-DVD in the 360 simply wasn't feasible. At the time, it probably would've raised the 360's price at least $200, and at that price, no one would've bought it anyway. The PS3 only so...
I hear ya. Hillary's desire to censor games worries me, to say the least.
I get the feeling she's a very "big brother knows best" sort of canidate. Personally, I think the government needs to get its OWN house cleaned up and in order before it decides to tell me what to do in MY house.
He's not wrong. It's important that children learn things like TV and video games need to be taken in moderation and balanced with things like study, exercise, and social interaction.
Too many parents use TV as a substitute for good parenting, which is unacceptable. Poorly educated, poorly parented children are one of the biggest causes of our country's ills.
I like the disagree. I enjoy when people disagree with facts. It makes me happy inside.
You do know that Baldur's Gate DID begin with a Nietzsche quote, right? I didn't MAKE THAT UP. It's *fact*.
In fact, with a little research I found that:
"Nietzsche quotation, "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he doesn't become one himself," is shown in the beginning of a teaser trailer for the game."
...
Seriously. I mean yeah, all the sides have their fanboys, but the ones who keep fueling the fires are the gaming media. Last year it was "PS3 IS A FAILURE, 360 TRIUMPHANT" this year it's "THIS IS THE YEAR OF THE PS3. 360 IS RUNNING OUT OF STEAM" and both years "WII - SELLING WELL BUT WILL IT LAST?"
Controversy breeds interest. They post those sorts of stories to get hits, nothing more. And sadly, many people eat it right up and then go to Gene...
Activision is apparently in a race with EA to see who can run their franchises into the ground first.
EA has the experience, with Madden and countless others, but clearly Activision has the will and the determination to take the title.
Personally, I think EA will take the crown. They've destroyed classic, historic gaming franchises like Ultima and Wing Commander. Even if Guitar Hero dies, we'll still have Rock Band.
"What other game kicks off with a Friedrich Nietzsche quote?"
Baldur's Gate.
Oh...wait. That was a rhetorical question :(
Twenty bucks says it's even the same damn over-used quote.
Studies shows sky blue, grass green.
This was much more interesting when I accidently read it as "Gears of War 2 Action Figures Series Revealed".
Remember Westwood Studious.
Remember Origin.
We will never forget.
EA, if you end Bioware, we will end YOU.
No, these games are actually pretty crappy.
They didn't even TRY to look for games that got bad reviews but didn't suck. They're out there, but these three AREN'T them.
I mean, Shadowrun? Seriously? Why would you buy that? So you can play it with the other 7 people who own a copy and still actually play online?
You may laugh now, but the only ones laughing come 2009 will be the Atari 2600 owners.
Little did anyone realize that the '2600' in 'Atari 2600' actually meant "This system will last until the year 2600".
Futureproof indeed.
Mmm....CryENGINE...
I agree. I think every possible variation of every side of the format war has been posted.
It's over. Blu-ray has triumphed, largely due to the PS3. Digital downloads are not serious competition. Sony was right, the doubters (myself included) were wrong.
Now let's all get back to arguing about whose system can kick whose system's ass. My money's still on the Atari 2600; it'll make a comeback, trust me. Moon Lander 2: Land Harder is THE exclusive game to wat...
How are you sorry for me? I was mocking HD-DVD, not Blu-ray :P
The Blu-ray Disc Association has made an official statement regarding Toshiba's announcement that they would no longer be supporting the HD DVD format. Andy Parsons, Chairman, Blu-ray Disc Association U.S. Promotions Committee commented,
"Welcome to OWNEDVILLE, Population: HD-DVD. We will enjoy sleeping on our GIANT PILE OF MONEY, but I'm sure you guys are doing fine, too."
As a developer, I have to say, this is Awesome.
Yes, with a capital 'A'.
Props to Microsoft for giving power back to the little guy. After all, the "little guys" are the same people who created things like the Ultima series.
Some of the best games of all time came from a small group of devoted, talented developers.
And hey, if nothing else, we get some free games.
