I mean, it's not like Pacman, Sonic, Bayonetta, Cloud, Joker, or a host of other third party characters in Smash are from franchises that are tied specifically to Nintendo consoles...
Mystery dungeon is actually a solid remake, honestly. Completely remade graphics. Pikmin 3 has the coop mode, so that's *nice*. But DKC:TF was a straight slap in the face. Really? All we get is funky kong? If they would have included a remaster of Donkey Kong Country Returns it would have been fine...but just Funky?
Well, wii digital purchases carried over to the Wii u. And DSi purchases carried over to the 3DS. It depends on whether it's backwards compatible I think.
It'd be better if they did something like Smart delivery or, if they do add extra content, a freaking discount
Disappointing, but not unexpected. I know Sony could make a great official PS3 emulator that works on the PS5, but that's time and money spent. There has to be a large market for it and I just don't think there would be as many people interested in playing two, three, or four generation old games.
"...but it needed to be re-calibrated often, and the Switch could have it worse without a sensor bar"
The sensor bar has nothing to do with calibration. That's entirely because of the gyroscope. In fact, I believe the game doesn't even use the sensor bar at all and only uses gyroscope aiming similar to an air mouse.
Yoshi isn't a port.
Half Life Alyx wouldn't be nearly as good without VR. I'd rather they just recap the story at the beginning of Half Life 3
@Looper
There were quite a few timed exclusives that the Playstation showcase showed that weren't just indies. Such as: Godfall, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Project Athia, Deathloop, and Ghostwire: Tokyo. I agree that timed exclusive deals aren't consumer friendly, but if Playstation can do it I feel Xbox can be competitive and do it too.
@telekinetic
Okay man, let's deny Zelda's influence on the game even when the creator of the game himself has cited the series as a major inspiration. Sure.
@Telekineticmantis
I'm not talking about games that influenced him in general, I'm talking about games Ueda said gave him direct inspiration for Shadow of the Colossus. Ueda designed the Colossi after Zelda bosses, and wanted them to resemble "inverted Zelda dungeons".
Nintendo games are fun. I think this whole conspiracy of Nintendo games being inflated is ridiculous. The critics that are reviewing games today likely had a Playstation as their first console.
@telekineticmantis
Yeah, it's really funny. Ueda was influenced by the Zelda series with Shadow of the Colossus (has stated that many times), and you can see the influence of Shadow of the Colossus in BotW. It ended up going full circle.
@SurgicalMenace
Breath of the Wild's chemistry system is surpassed by none. That's what I'd like to see more in games. Each object having a multitude of physical based properties. That and the freedom BotW gave you.
I don't think they should outright abandon any features in the sequel. Just fine tune them and/or make them more accessible
"they always on a 4-6 year cycle"
Depends what you are looking at. Gameboy lasted 9 years before GBC came around (which wasn't a successor so much as a refresh). DS lasted 7 years before 3DS came around. 3DS still doesn't have a successor (unless you're counting the Switch).
Nintendo also mentioned wanting a longer life cycle than their previous home consoles, so I think we are looking at 6-7 year cycle minimum.
@AnnaDea
Assassins Creed Origins and Odyssey are open world RPG's though.
@Kyizen
Did I defend the texture streaming?
Short answer: no
@Otter
Yeah, I was excited for this game as well and was thinking about getting it for my Switch, but I will be waiting for a patch before I decide to pull the plug. IF they patch it, that is. The textures themselves aren't as big an issue for me as the texture streaming and actual framerate.
I do wish they would make a Switch Pro. I'd really like to play Xenoblade 2 (and Definitive) at resolutions much closer to 720p handheld (and at least 900p ...
@OtterX
I'm not defending any texture streaming issue. I've literally said "it needs to be patched" What I'm saying is that the screenshot is given out of context. The context should be in the post. E.g. "Yeesh, look at these texture loading issues".
@bouzebbal
Splatoon 2 has much more content than the original (24 stages over 16, salmon run, 139 weapons over 91, etc). You'd choose over all the content, extra modes, and even the octo expansion simply because you have to press X now instead of tapping on the map?
Also, Nintendo has been giving people things new in between. Smash Ultimate, Odyssey, Paper Mario: Origami King, Animal Crossing, Luigis Mansion 3, Astral Chain, Fire Emblem Three Houses, ...
