Switch has two months to sell over 3M in order to stay above the Wii. It's been averaging about 1.7M each month this year so this could very well happen. Even if it doesn't, the Switch would again overtake the Wii shortly thereafter.
By the end of the year the Switch will have outsold the Wii.
@Orchard
I agreed with you, until someone stated that this story was submitted first. If this story was submitted first then this one should be the original and the other one the duplicate.
It's hard for me to tell though, since I only see hours. Can anyone see the actual timestamp?
@Neon
I wouldn't say that it's a sure thing that the PS5 passes the record. It's possible though. I believe it depends on when PS5 starts breaking Switch's record.
@Lucky
Even if you look at the months launch aligned for PS4, Switch would still be keeping up the streak.
I think citing stock is a moot point. Every successful console has stock issues (Switch included). I don't think it detracts from Switch's success, as the new consoles are still very much successful.
Switch's record breaking streak is pretty crazy. 27 consecutive months being number one NPD tracked, with no signs of slowing down. Previous record was 22 months.
My list would be:
Super Mario Bros-NES US launch
Super Mario World - SNES
Tetris - Gameboy
Panzer Dragoon - Saturn
Super Mario 64 - N64
Soul Calibur - Dreamcast
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 - Gamecube
Halo - Xbox
Call of Duty 2 - Xbox 360
Wii Sports - Nintendo Wii
BotW - Switch
@Sonic-and-Crash
Neither Sonic nor Crash released anywhere close to the launch of their respective consoles. Crash released a full year after the western launch of the PS1 (and two full years after Japan's launch), and Sonic released two years after Genesis in US, and a year after Mega Drive in PAL regions.
@thundercat
So we can't compare sales of Switch to PS5/Series X but you can compare Switch to PS4 despite Switch being closer to the former in age and not the latter?
@Nebaku
The multiple games in a generation are utilizing the exact same map. Ruby and Sapphire, Diamond and Pearl, Red and Blue, none of these pairs are two entirely different games. They are the same game with different Pokémon. In addition, the third game utilizes the same map as the pairs, but makes some improvements to the formula and adds new mons.
The generations and remakes count, but the different versions don't count as separate release...
@Necrum
This claim is simply unfounded. There have been Zelda branded games with middling reviews (Hyrule Warriors, Triforce Heroes, etc). Even traditional Zelda titles haven't received the praise that BotW did. BotW is able to stand on it's own as a great game.
I've already played Spiderman and God of War on the PS4, but I wouldn't mind them coming to PC as I did just build a nice one.
That being said, exclusive hardware helps differentiate your console, so I don't expect Sony to put everything onto PC.
Why not? Why are your subjective experiences more objective than anyone else's?
latency and resolution are two different things though...
@notorious
I wouldn't call Nintendo's first half empty. Super Mario 3D World, Bravely Default 2, Monster Hunter Rise, New Pokemon Snap, and Mario Golf are all in the first half. Also miitopia if you're into that (looks fun but overpriced imo).
I'd say that's not a bad start exclusive wise. You may not be interested in all of them, but there is more to offer this year than other years for the first half.
@generic
Sure, but we're any of those Nintendo franchises that made a drastic change with an entry on the Switch?
No. Again, literally nobody is saying zelda did it first.
They didn't say Zelda invented open world games in the article. It's suggesting that, just like BotW for Zelda, this Legends game is changing the stock formula drastically and even emulating some elements of BotW (such as the trailer similarities).
Nintendo Direct post: "how disappointing, just awful, hardly anything good shown, Nintendo is letting their fans down"
Sony State of Play post: "you just need to check your expectations. This isn't E3"
You know, I'm kind of excited. Just built a new PC and I never ended up playing this game on my PS4 Pro. Same with Death Stranding.
I personally don't agree with the list. My top five would be:
-Link to the Past
-Ocarina of Time
-BotW
-Windwaker
-Links Awakening
It looks like PS4 sales are slowly creeping up on Gameboy. It should be able to pass it just barely by the end of the year. If not this year, then next.
Switch selling an average of almost 400k each week. If we take that, plus the holiday boost, we are easily looking at 26M for this year for Switch. By Jan 2022 lifetime Switch sales will be around 105M.
PS5/XSX are a bit harder to predict. Sales now aren't high, but that is stock not interest. PS5 is...
