@1Victor

How do they update every week then if they just ballpark the numbers after NPD releases theirs?

Also, NPD doesn't release numbers to the public anymore, and how do they get numbers from Europe?

@1Victor

Though the numbers are estimates, they adjust as needed each time the manufacturers provide sales numbers and they usually aren't too far off. In a week or so when Nintendo provides their own numbers we will get a more accurate idea, but it is still likely to be around the 76M range, which would still be on track to outsell the PS4.

It is looking pretty likely that the graph will never cross again. PS4 sold fantastically, but Switch just exploded.

I'm not saying demand won't be strong. I'm just saying that last year was huge for Switch sales wise and Im expecting that was it's sales peak.

Switch is 41% up YoY. That's pretty interesting. I don't expect that to continue throughout the year, but if it's up even half of that we are looking at crazy numbers.

Though tbh, I expect it will be down YoY later on.

My personal top five would probably be:

1. Switch
2. DS
3. PSP
4. 3DS
5. GBA

I really liked the PSP. I like my Vita too, but the PSP's library was really great.

I don't see how it is unfair. They are just sales. It's perfectly fine to compare

The Switch also suffered from shortages. I'm not sure why you are acting like this is unique to PS5.

"Nah, a loser is someone who has to spin numbers to make their favorite toy look better than it really is."

How is Switch having the most units and dollars sold in December for the US a spin?

@potatoseal

No, that's incorrect. Switch won last week too...and the week before. In fact, the only week Switch didn't was the PS5s launch week.

Proof based on estimates:

@potatoseal

Ummm...you realize that is launch aligned right? That means PS5 launch in 2020 is outselling Switch launch in 2017. In 2020 the Switch has been the number one seller every month based on VGChartz estimates

Edit: For example...here is the latest vgchartz estimate for Dec 27 through Jan 2

"PS5 is winning in sales World Wide even with limited stock available."

Switch is outselling the PS5 worldwide as well, based on current estimates, so I'm not sure where this is coming from.

"Now lets see if the Switch can get near PS4's approximately 120 million sold."
Switch just might. It's tracking ahead of the PS4. As long as there isn't a Wii like sales cliff then this should definitely be feasible.

I think the issue was that people would put their games for super cheap (like one cent) to see them top the sales charts just to gain notoriety.

I like the weapon degrading system as it stops me from relying on the same weapons throughout the game. But it'd be nice if the durability was much higher.

It's not an overreaction, it's an analysis of sales. Sony had their best launch ever, but the PS5 did very poorly in Japan even compared to the PS4. If stock is an issue it means that Japan is not a priority. Which may be due to interest or other factors.

That doesn't mean that PS5 is doing bad...just that Sony isn't emphasizing a region that they used to do well in.

I personally enjoyed BotW more than the Witcher 3. Different strokes for different folks.

"Last but not least is the software..most games are wiiu ports"

I was with you until this point. The people still dishing out this rhetoric should look at the library again. There are about 11 Wii U ports that are published by Nintendo. Meanwhile, there are over 45 games Nintendo has published for the Switch total, which is discounting the games they only published in one region (which I personally don't count because it isn't...

If you look at the graph, Switch is beating PS4's next holiday season before even counting for December which is Nintendo's largest time of the year. It would take a drastic drop for Switch not to beat PS4 in the US at this point. Is it possible...sure! Is it probable? No, it's pretty unlikely.
