Death Stranding performed really well. Sold more than Luigi's Mansion 3 did first week, I believe. Hopefully it stays on the charts for a while.
The Switch hardware is still selling really well. All good news!
Not in Japan it isn't.
I think that more people would agree if this next Pokemon release had more effort behind it. At first I was hopeful, but the leaks suggest I really shouldn't be. Some people are beating the main game in 16 hours. Exp-share always on, auto heals between Elite Four battles, and legitimately copied and pasted animations (though some are admittedly actually good, particularly battle animations).
Links Awakening was a great remake, and Luigi's Mansion 3 is a great game (...
Really great score for Death Stranding! The game seems interesting. Not sure if I'm going to purchase immediately, but it definitely seems like one of the most unique games of this generation.
@Hardiman
I've been thinking about giving it a shot, but I have such a huge backlog as it is! I own a PS4 too though, so I'd be more likely to play it on that because of the clarity. Witcher 3 on Switch doesn't seem like a bad port, but it is really muddy due to the constrains of the system, and I think that I might prefer it on my PS4 Pro.
@knushwood
Not sure what you mean by my stance has changed. My stance has always been the same. Care to give me an example of cherry picking?
Well it's about specific games influencing other games in the medium. VR as a whole isn't a game. I don't think you can attribute VR to one specific game and say that's what started it all.
@rainslacker
I wasn't trying to say that TLoU shouldn't be on here because a lot of the games it influenced have been Sony's own. I guess maybe the way I phrased my sentence is to blame. I mean that I would personally put TLoU on the list. Or maybe Uncharted 2. Both games influenced the medium towards better story telling.
I think you're right. Influence is a hard thing to judge. But that's why I'm using what other developers have...
@Knushwood
Nobody is giving me examples of games that do freedom or physical interactions better than BotW. One person brought up cooking and weapon breaking, which isn't even what I was speaking of. Another person brought up climbing, which is only one element of freedom and certainly not the whole picture.
Do you have some examples of games that you can provide?
@Hardiman
Again, we aren't talking about which one you think is better. You can like Horizon more, but Id argue about it's influence because I've yet to see any developers say that they are trying to make a game like Horizon Zero Dawn. But I've heard quite a few developers say they wanted to create a game similar to BotW.
Also, why don't you bring up any of BotW details and you only think it's about climbing stuff? I'd love to ...
@2pacalypse
If you think that cooking and weapon breaking are what I'm talking about when I say "physical properties" or "freedom" you are woefully uninformed. You're trying to bring up potential flaws, not the games highlights.
I think you think this list is a "best of" list. It isn't. Portal 2 and Bloodborne are excellent games (and I stress that word. Portal 2 is one of my favorites from last gen and Bloodborne is amazing) but they aren't directly influencing other major games.
I'd agree with TLoU, but the influence of that series seems to mostly be with Sony's own studios.
I haven't played Witcher 3 so I don't know.
But Od...
Too many references! They even reference Legend of Dragoon with Dart. I hope the two game remakes thing is true though. It'd be awesome if it was Demon Souls AND Metal Gear Solid
@darth
Are there even three MediEvil games to remake though? I thought there was just two, the PS1 original and then the PSP one that is basically just the original one revamped.
It's a value proposition though, and Mario Kart Tour is basically riskless yet it's still a disappointing 6.7.
I'm sure if Days Gone and/or MediEvil were free games they'd be scoring much higher because of the value.
@Foxtrot
Those games get incremental updates with each release though. Comparing any of those games to the first release that came out many years ago will show that there are a lot of modern mechanics implemented which help improve the game.
That being said, I wouldn't expect a bunch of new mechanics being added to this game because it's aim isn't to change the original in any significant way aside from graphics. But something like a checkpoi...
Possibly, but the point is that it was the Wii U that was the stepping stone to the Switch. So regardless of whether it was a success or a failure it led to something that is a success (the Switch)
@Venom
Oh, I'm not saying there will be. I was just saying, if there was, it wouldn't compete power wise with the PS5 and Scarlett.
I've thought this for a while. I think that BotW 2 coming out in October/November would be fantastic. It'd also be great if Prime 4 came out that same year, but I don't have high hopes.
They can still have a good year with Animal Crossing, BotW 2, Bayonetta 3, No More Heroes 3 and a few other surprises (which I'm sure they have). Hopefully SMTV comes out next year too.
If a Switch Pro comes out it won't be enough of a power jump to compete with PS5 or Scarlett. It will be a stop gap like the Pro and X are.
Well I wouldn't call them incompetent. They just have a different opinion. But the premise is the same. You don't know how good a game is until you play it for yourself.
