@christopher
I never said anything about the PS5 DE. I talked about the PS4 Pro and PS4. Those aren't considered two different consoles, at least not traditionally. They are the same ecosystem, same games, one is just more powerful than the other. There are many examples of variations in consoles. The PSP, DS, and 3DS have all had at least two variants with changes to internal hardware. All of them are just variants of the same console. Also differentiating between the ...

I guess it depends upon what you are considering a "life cycle" is, but Nintendo typically reveals consoles around a year before launch. They revealed the Wii in 2005, launched 2006. The Wii U was revealed in 2011, launched in 2012. 3DS was revealed in 2010 and launched in 2011. Switch was revealed in 2016 and launched 2017. The Nintendo DS was revealed the same year it launched.
With regard to sales, yes the previous units continue s...
@Christopher
The XSX and the XSS are not two completely different consoles. That's like saying the PS4 and the PS4 Pro are two completely different consoles. It's part of the same family. They play the same games. They even use similar parts (the manufacturing of one affects the manufacturing of the other).
Well this week Switch lost some ground to where it was last year, but I believe it is still slightly ahead total YoY from these estimates. Next week 2020 Switch starts to slowly go back to its baseline of about 320k a week, which 2021 Switch numbers have been exceeding.
PS5 and XSX are holding pretty steady at 180k and 88k respectively. Hopefully Sony can pick up stock in time for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart'd debut. The game is going to increase demand, but stock is...
I don't understand why you think that.
Why would Nintendo cannibalize their own sales of the Switch by announcing a Switch 2 soon? It's BECAUSE the Switch is selling so well that they are more likely to announce a revision to continue those sales than a successor which will halt them.
@Atom
Props for explaining why you disagree and not just hitting the button. Seriously, that doesn't happen often enough around here.
"The pitch was their hardware stunk, and compared to Sony PlayStation, it did."
It's pretty interesting because, hardware wise, the N64 was a very capable machine. It's biggest limitation wasn't even the cartridge, but the 4kb of texture cache they allowed. Had they increased this to even 16kb it would have been much easier to port games to. In addition, they really should have added a sound chip.
@azedean
Nintendo commented on legal documents regarding Xbox and Gamepass suggesting that there was sensitive information concerning them in those documents. That doesn't mean the talks are still happening, but it seems like they did happen at some point. Or maybe some alternative partnership program I'm not sure.
@wave
I wouldn't consider the Xbox One a sales "flop". It sold an estimated 50M units. That's 40M more than the Wii U (which was a definitive flop), 30M more than the Gamecube and OG Xbox, 20M more than the Genesis and N64, and just 1M (maybe a couple more by the end) more than the Super Nintendo.
Was it a resounding success? Nah, but it didn't fail miserably. You don't have to sell 100M+ to be successful in this industry.
Dreams would be handy on PC. I need to get back into it, but even playing with the move controllers can be a bit jarring.
@Thigh
Sales and meta simply aren't the end all be all. Sony also still has a bigger install base (PS4 is 115M plus PS5 7M+ and climbing). Sony is looking to increase interest in their content by providing slightly older games to a large group of gamers and make a profit that can be used for future installments.
@Neutral
IMO, Nintendo IS best at doing their own thing. Both the Gamecube and the Wii U were them trying to compete with ...
@VersusDMC
Almost all of those games you listed were in the Wii's third year, not fourth year. Fourth year of Wii is November 19th, 2010-November 18, 2011. Every game but DKC: R were in the Wii's third year which extends from Nov 19th, 2009- Nov 18, 2010.
Also, the Switch has Monster Hunter Rise, New Pokemon Snap, Mario Golf: Super Rush, No More Heroes 3, Shin Megami Tensei V, Game Builder Garage, Diamond and Pearl Remakes, Monster Hunter Stories ...
@darkborn
I have never seen an XSX, XSS, or PS5 out in the wild, and I go to stores regularly. Heck, I don't see Switch's anymore unless its the Lite variant.
There will always be some people that get lucky with their stores, but I would take that as the exception not the rule. When I look online and see no consoles available for MSRP, I'd be willing to bet they are mostly sold out.
Personally I think they are helpful. It gives you a gauge of how well each console is doing within a certain confidence interval. Are they 100% accurate? No, but it's often pretty close.
Almost 500k this week for Switch, which is fantastic. If these sales stick then Switch has a shot at pulling almost 6M this next quarter (5.7 or higher).
The total sales of PS5 vs XSX is slowly going towards 2:1 in favor of Playstation. MS needs to make greater manufacturing deals if they want to prevent that.
All consoles doing well and surpassing their predecessors given the same timeframe!
25+ Playstation Studios games which includes about half being new IP's. Though they aren't all first party since Returnal and Destruction All Stars were also under the Playstation Studios label, it's still awesome to hear how they are investing in so many games that are both big, small, and from different genres.
@stoneyoshi
If they agree clearly I get the general gist as to why.
@finding
I did, that's why I said it wouldn't be coming "at this time" and "If Gabe is really talking about a game coming out late in 2021"
I'm saying if he is talking about a game coming out in 2021 then it wont be Half Life Alyx for PSVR2
This site is so incredibly ridiculous. If you disagree, tell me why you disagree.
Here is the link to what Sony said: https://www.ign.com/article...
Why do any of you think that they would make Half Life Alyx for PSVR2 and launch it in 2021 if Sony themselves are saying PSVR2 will not come out in 2021?
@Christopher
You ask me not to nitpick parts of your comment yet you are nitpicking mine. You completely ignore how attempting to separate them as different consoles is useless to begin with as they are still limited by the same manufacturing processes, and you didn't acknowledge the very real fact that AMD might have given Sony a better contract because of the prior success of the PS4. Let's be honest, the PS4 was more lucrative for them than the X1, can we agree? ...
