Making it for consoles is too expensive as MS/Sony demand upfront fees just to put it on their platforms as well as any patches after release.
PC/Mac/linux is the best way to go for any kickstarter to make a profit especially if they can get it on steam, gog, gamersgate etc.
If kickstarter or crowdfunding takes off in a big way, as it's just in it's infancy atm, the publishers are going to get worried they won't be needed soon.
I,...
That's damn good for an Indie dev. The "AAA" publishers have brainwashed most gamers into thinking they need to sell millions of copies for a game to be considered a success.
You don't!
For an indie dev a few thousand copies sold is a success.
Only these mega publishers that put more into marketing the game than the game itself need to sell millions to break even as they've blow all their budget on crap tv ads and the ...
It's already free to play in the same vein as Guild Wars 2 is.
Defiance is a solid 3rd person shooter but for me a short term MMO. It lacks depth but is alot of fun while it lasts.
MS are already being foolish and sticking with Kinect 2.0 and the casual market. This will end in tears for MS and I can't wait for the fallout. It's about time a big company was brought down to earth from sheer arrogance :)
We are heading for a video games crash it's only a matter of time now.
I didn't buy Sim City because it had always online DRM and a complete mess of a launch which still isn't resolved today.
There was also the fact that Sim City is £40+ and most PC games from most PC devs/publishers are £25-30. Only the greedy few are pricing PC games at console prices.
@Muerte2494 "Outside of Battlefield 3 and Witcher 2, there weren't many PS3/360/PC games where PC was the lead platform."
PC is the lead platform for Ubisofts new game , Watch Dogs.
The PC is always the lead platform or have you forgotten all console games are developed on PCs? They are just dumbed down for consoles with lower res textures to fit into their memory then the devs work backwards to upgrade the graphics again for PC. It's very counter p...
I'd never get Sim City at £40-65. These problems just cement my choice to never buy EA games or single player games that aren't meant for online.
Diablo 3 all over again. I suffered through that abysmal launch period I'm not doing it ever again.
You do realise those sales numbers for PC are retail only?
Digital sales are not recorded especially from steam.
Also CoD isn't that popular on PC now so it's kind of a biased comparison.
But, hey, whatever makes consoles sales look better, right? :)
If publishers want us to embrace digital then they need to take a good, hard look at their pricing.
Paying £55-60 for a digital copy is ridiculous especially when it's £35-40 in retail stores.
Digital only just isn't a reasonable possibility atm. ISPs would have something to say about digital only consoles as they won't allow millions of people downloading 60-80GB games without it affecting their service.
I think we are ...
Watch Dogs won't be competing with GTA on PC any time soon.
On consoles, maybe but GTA isn't announced for PC as of yet. Ubisoft has free reign with Watch Dogs on PC so make the most of it Ubi.
Digital download revolution isn't going to fail because of any hardware or software developer fault it's going to fail due to the fact that ISPs won't allow such downloads to take place without charging or throttling their customers for such massive downloads.
As textures get higher resolutions that download will increase 2-3 fold.
There is one thing. I have never heard of any PC game that takes 80+GB. The biggest is TERA i think with 50GB but tha...
Already sounds like Xbox live Gold.
Wrong way to go in my opinion. I bought PS3 a few months after launch but not sure if I'll buy PS4 when all the details are revealed. It was a great Sony presentation but hardly anything was revealed.
It sounds like Sony are going to have tiered content to split up the PS community based on how much money you are willing to spend on their graded packages.
PSN and online play for free is what made PS sta...
GTX 460 will be fine for Tomb Raider. I have a 460 and it's not failed me yet with any game including crysis 1 and 2 with HD textures.
The recommended specs are hardly ever accurate. If it does run a bit slower than you like just turn down shadows or lower anti aliasing.
Diablo 3 isn't that good. I bought it on PC at launch and was quite disappointed how repetitive and boring it was after a week or 2. Compared to Diablo 2 which i played for months at a time.
So not too bothered about the console version as I've been there, done that :)
Just wondering this is an MMO, right? How in the hell is MS, and to a lesser extent, Sony, allowing the patching for this game?
Most MMOs on PC have hotifxes and larger updates monthly. I mean 2GB+ patches. So is this game going to have no updates to fix the many bugs a game of this size will have or is MS allowing the large patches that this game will inevitably get?
On point, I'd rather Bungie not port Destiny to PC if they are just gonna make a lazy an...
I really hope Microsoft and Sony introduce the always online procedures that PC gamers have to put up with now.
Hopefully then they'll be another video games crash when most of the companies go bust due to their own greed of stopping second hand sales.
And I never mentioned anything about evil console gamers but every console gamer seems to think PC gamers pirate all their games.
If we did pirate everything PC games revenue wouldn't h...
THQ failed because of a bad business decision with UDraw device on consoles not because of low PC sales.
Anything else you want to use to discredit PC gamers with?
If it's not worth the effort then why bring out a port at all?
There's plenty more games out there. Some much better than GTA series.
I actually preferred and enjoyed Sleeping Dogs much more than GTA4 and it was a really good PC port.
If Rockstar can't get their head out of their arse and wake up to see the PC platform is a lucrative investment then it's their loss. I'll just move on and play something else.
If th...
And I wonder how many pirated it on consoles as well? Piracy isn't just a PC specific thing it happens alot of consoles too but I guess you forgot that part.
I never pirated it I have it on steam from a sale maybe 6 months later when it was cheaper as rockstar didn't deserve full price for a shoddy port.
PC gamers vote with our wallets. We also support developers who treat us with respect like CD Project RED and the many PC exclusive indie devs.
What's "next gen" got to do with quality? That's up to the publishers to not rush out their games before they are finished. No matter the power of the consoles the publishers won't change their ways to maximise profits to the detriment of the games they publish for a quick buck.
