You think publishers and developers are going to go out of their way to make games for a niche product?
Not a chance.
They wouldn't gain any profits from a few 100k early adopters. Most games have sales of around 10% of the total users. So say 500k OR were sold it would only amount to 50k game sales for each title.
Would that be enough for any publisher to risk their money developing a game for the OR? I think not.
Well most Ubisoft and EA games are already £50/$73 on their UK stores and other places so I choose to get it at cheaper cd key or other online stores like GMG.
I have over 1000 games on steam plus more on uplay, origin and GoG but I did pirate when I was younger.
If the prices went up due to no more piracy I'd just buy less games and be selective on what games I did buy.
Is that a win or a loss for developers?
Not really. A demo on PC was meant for testing the game to see if your PC was powerful enough to play the game.
These days it's just guess work whether the game will work on your PC or not.
I thought Just Cause 3 would easily work on my PC on day 1. No such luck. I'm still waiting for the devs to optimise the game so I can play it without the FPS tanking to 5-10 fps every few mins.
It doesn't help when most publishers would rather...
How about you be quiet and cuddle up to the DOA Rift with little game support as developers didn't think it was worth the money to develop for it just yet :)
VR will not be going mainstream for a few years if at all and the intended target now is tech and VR enthusiasts with more money than sense.
I have no intention of buying any VR headset at this price. I'll stick to PC gaming and have fun while you throw up from motion sickness from the tech demos...
Hehe they tried that before and we (PC gamers) told them where to go :)
Paying for Xbox Live will never come to PC. I feel Microsoft have learned their lesson in trying to charge PC gamers for online access :P
I don't buy a fully built PC but I do buy PC components to build or upgrade the PC myself.
That's where the money is now.
And Microsoft don't sell computers just supply the OS and other software. MS have always been a software company not hardware.
For now Windows 10 is free on PC so they aren't even selling that to the general public.
I think you've just answered your own question :)
Why are they supporting PC platform with former Xbox exclusive games if Xbox platform is doing so well?
I still think there is need for both console and PC but don't try to blur the platforms like MS are trying to do.
It just doesn't work. PC gaming is it's own separate platform and has it's own games and communities just like consoles do.
It's nice of ...
We'll see.
Microsoft have done this before with PC gamers. They said they'll start supporting the platform again but only if you buy Windows Vista which Direct X 10 and Halo 2 only works on.
Like m2stech said above they tried crossplay before and had to abandon it as PC gamers were too good with KB/M against xbox gamers with gamepad.
How do you see cloud gaming coming to light when most console gamers are still wanting to keep their boxed copies to sell on after they've finished the game?
PC platform is already in the digital era with 90% of sales coming from digital.
Consoles have a lot of catching up to do and are way behind the software battle as their customers are still wanting hard copies :)
"Anything bought on PC (Windows) is a win for MS." - That is not true. The only way Microsoft gain from PC sales is if they are the publisher.
Most of the time Microsoft isn't the publisher for PC releases unless the game's developer is owned by MS.
@yomfweeee
I'm buying it on a different platform.
Square-Enix are the publishers for the PC version not Microsoft so MS get jack shit from PC sales.
The PC version was always going to be released in early 2016.
It's the PS4 version that is taking the brunt of Microsoft's exclusivity stunt.
MS wanted to deny Sony Tomb Raider for a year and they did. Any sales they got for RotTR is a bonus for MS.
@bmf7364
Also the fact that Rocksteady changed the way texture streaming works in UE3 engine specifically for consoles and tried to make it work with PC with terrible results and a product recall for PC.
The only reason system requirements are inflating is because console developers are trying to develop PC ports like they do consoles and the unified RAM.
Instead of using system and VRAM in parallel they are trying to push all the textures in...
All those games in the article is either coming to PC or already on PC like Cities Skylines and We Happy Few.
The PC platform seems to be where most of the indie and AAA games are now as we get most of the 3rd party games from both consoles as well as a few of our own like XCOM 2.
Gonna be a good year for all 3 platforms.
Developers are trying to use the ways they develop on consoles for PCs and it's completely counter-productive.
PC development doesn't use unified RAM it uses system and VRAM but devs are trying to throw everything in the pot on PCs which just doesn't work.
What doesn't help is Xbox One has DDR3 (system RAM) for unified RAM and PS4 has GDDR5 (VRAM).
No wonder developers are confused when each consoles uses one half of what make...
Interesting move but hardly unexpected.
Microsoft seem to be obsessed with exclusive deals so I'll pass :)
I'm on Windows 10 but I won't be playing these games as they'll be exclusive to Xbox store on Windows 10 therefore no thanks :)
I've been supporting CD Project RED since Witcher 1 on PC.
So yes I do know who CDPR is and yes Witcher 3 is game of the year for me.
It's one of the best games of the last few years and I'd take it over any AAA game that's come out in 2015 on console or PC.
The game is hardly basic but you wouldn't understand how much time and effort has gone into Witcher 3.
CDPR should be commended for their passion and ...
You can if you don't go into the Dark Zone.
The Dark Zone seems to be for PvP conflicts as well as have some of the best items but you don't have to go in there if you don't want to.
After Games for Windows Live PC gamers have a right to hate Microsoft.
I wouldn't go anywhere near the game if it was exclusive to Microsoft store. That goes for any games they release in the future which won't be much as MS seem reluctant to support PC gaming after 10+ years abandonment.
Actually me and my friends go for mid range PCs so we aren't the target market for this expensive VR product.
I'm just a PC gamer who likes to play games. Paying for a niche product that is about half of what I paid for my PC over the years is not a good price for me.
Maybe in 4-5 years time if the Oculus Rift is still around I might consider it but till the price drops to a reasonable amount I'm out.
It's not an essential pe...
