Yeah, but remember that not every game is published by EA, Activision, and Ubisoft.

And yes, the devs are paid their salary, and it doesn't make much difference what profit a studio makes on their game, at least until it doesn't make enough and suddenly many people are without jobs.

But that's really no different from the rape and pillage mentality.

I prefer to support big publishers over pawn shops simply because at least the gre...

I wouldn't say the *only*, but it sure doesn't hurt to pay $5-10 dollars or less per game.

Actually, the western and JRPG genres evolved separately in each region, and for many years the JRPG was to Japan what the shooter was to the west, so it's a little disingenuous to say JRPGs pound for pound trounce the west.

The reason to provide criticism to the Japanese development community is because they're making a lot of mistakes. If the devs understand that they aren't making satisfactory products, they can hopefully work to improve themselves.

There's just a lot of bad practices happening in the Japanese games market. Three of the biggest publishers (Square-Enix, Capcom, Konami) are making these ungodly idiotic mistakes with their products in recent years.

Konami:

-Launching the MGS collection with limited in-store availability with very little marketing on the same day as Modern Warfare 3? (Yeah, their markets might not overlap much, but still)

-Three Silent Hill titles releas...

I truly hope more and more companies will be either consulting with or trying to completely rip off Valve's strategy with Steam.

Massive catalogue, good pricing up front (very few games, even multiplats via console, were $60 this gen), and regular sales.

It balances out the sales so that early adopters are willing to pay a large amount up front, people capable of waiting can grab it when the price drops, and impulse buyers will snag it by the thousands wh...

Anyone remember the Bing! search charity for the Japan earthquake? Use the crappy search engine they've been pushing for so bloody long and they'll give money?

Yeah... Microsoft is baaaaad with PR.

And I bet it costs you an arm and a leg.

Comcast and CenturyLink are the only games in my town.

Sometimes it's even fewer choices than that, and God help you if you just want internet without phone and television jammed on as useless vestiges.

It's mostly Comcast and other big companies which have a stranglehold on the media market. They actively prevent further competition in major cities, which means most of the time you're stuck with one or two choices.

In the inner area of the Twin Cities, there was a small but inexpensive broadband company who couldn't get their advertisements aired because Comcast refused to let them.

Oh, for God's sake, never lump Kojima in with Tim Schafer. It's like using Hemmingway and Stephanie Meyer in the same sentence.

I can appreciate MGS to a very high degree, but there is *no doubt* that the Metal Gear Solid story could have benefited from HEAVY editing and paring down.

They couldn't make it in a fashion which would be remotely fun or satisfying, unless they focused upon the survival techniques or something.

Think of the media shitstorm of a game which actively encourages you to kill children. It works (mostly) in the novels because it's a product of a dystopian world; the Games are terrible, brutal creations.

Actually, what I'd like to see is a game done with the concept, an arena battle/survival game. It'd ...

Seriously, this game just looks so cool.

Plus, it might even outlast recent physical media. Backwards compatibility disappears behind releasing HD or digital versions of old games for cheap. Your old consoles won't last forever, and before you know it, all of those old games aren't much more than crappy little frisbees.

Unless, of course, you want to be like those people who meticulously care for the VCR so you can watch maybe one video tape a year.

It's not even exclusive content. They could waste a lot of money pursuing that avenue, and they still might have a poorly received end result.

They just need more content overall (their game list is still pretty pathetic), and more reasons to use their service over others. Price is a big one, ease of use. They need to find their market; probably not people with PCs (who more than likely use Steam), and probably not people with multiple consoles.

Not in 20 is pretty silly to suggest. I like the notion of getting away from exclusive content and forming an open platform for development (all games made with a single architecture and receiving widespread distribution instead of people having to own 6 different devices), but in honesty I don't think OnLive has the chops to succeed at it. However...

"Nathan Drake has one of the deepest, most HUMAN personalities that I have ever seen in any form of media. And that's not just my opinion, it's fact."

Wow. You must not read/watch/play much. It's a good series, with good storytelling, but no.

Just... no.

Windows 7 will still be around for quite a while. I fear 8 is going to favor tablets and smartphone style devices, which will make it pretty unloved by most desktop users.

Although, MS does have a pretty hit/miss record with their various OSes. *cough* Vista?

Yeah... I'd buy it again, too, if only to support those guys and further support PC versions of great games.

I'd probably even buy a less-than stellar port, though I'd hope they wouldn't do such a thing. Whatever, as long as it's on Steam :3
