...aaand then most of the others in the PC community who are used to *actual* difficulty in games will mod it to make it even harder.

I'll just be glad to have a decent frame-rate in Blighttown. And maybe have improved multiplayer so that it isn't always just a game of who gets the lagstab first.

Yeah, there really wan't a tutorial at launch, and it a lot of people a good amount of time to figure out how to play the game properly. I wouldn't say it was all that difficult; the tools were there to make you able to succeed, but they just didn't really tell you about them =\

No matter how good the game was, they were stupid to release it as they did.

It might be worth every penny of 60 dollars, but you just don't charge that much for a title like Rayman: Origins these days because it's a niche title more suited to a downloadable environment. The game probably would've sold 10x more at 20 dollars with a simultaneous release on all platforms. Even now, it's probably doing pretty darn well on Steam (and probably will for years to com...

Some people play MMOs to fill up experience bars. They like the grind. The really interesting ones are going to be those which move beyond the dull and stable structure of grind, quest, instance, grind.

Even moving toward different styles of leveling, like what The Secret World has going for it.

Or having players run the world as opposed to NPCs. World of Darkness, based upon Vampire: The Masquerade, intends to have clans and cities run by people (princes) wh...

The article wasn't bad, just sort of a waffling intellectual analysis of the market and its future.

A few odd assumptions are made: while yes, Netflix and other streaming services might change the *way* we absorb media like television and film, the point can't be ignored that *we're still watching*. If gaming changes to digital-based content, streaming, or even something like virtual reality, the market and the media will still exist.

Even if some...

Yeah. I think they should begin to encourage more use in digital distribution. Doing so, for the obvious reasons, will actually take care of a lot of the problems of the used market. They should do it gradually; offer really good pricing and convenience but not limiting anything.

Forcing the issue is a baaaad idea. As you mentioned, consoles aren't ready for wider use of digital (not to mention they haven't figured out how to price properly yet), and crapping on your ...

Blizzard is one of those exceptions; they don't seem to understand that not dropping the price or offering sales actually prevents more people from buying the game. A ten year old game in Diablo II + LoD costs 20 bucks on the Blizzard site. Yeah, some people will buy it, but do you really want your primary market to be nostalgists who want to play the game but lost their CD Key 5 years ago?

Yeah, Blizz is doing just fine, but they're missing out on a decent chunk of t...

I can't imagine Sony and Microsoft would ignore the most successful (by a pretty wide margin) digital distribution platform when crafting their own ideas.

Then again, there's also a tendency for profit-minded companies to balk at the notion of 50-75% sale pricing, but the proof comes back in the massive increase in bought copies.

It's not even that complicated of a formula: ease of use, large catalogue, good prices, good customer service.

Western RPGs and JRPGs *are* two different genres. Similar in some fashions, yes, each with their own style, tropes, and audience.

Nothing wrong with either, it's just a strange example of two different regions coming up with their own ideas of a relatively similar concept.

Yes, it's really easy to rally people against wealthy greed-mongers, but I'll say this:

However many millions GameStop makes in profit each year (yes, obviously not all of it represents money lost to devs/publishers) is money that doesn't go back into development. Hate on EA, Activision, Ubisoft, etc all you want, but at least their profit can get put back into the industry.

Yeah, they tend to make a lot of bland stuff and rehashes and so on, but ...

Not to mention vehicle makers have numerous ways to recoup the losses, including manufacturing parts for repairs (and conducting the repairs themselves), as well as getting their own hands into the used market.

Don't post wrong statistics.

Digital distribution in almost every form of media is either rapidly overtaking or even already beating physical in several areas. Music, PC games are already more than half, ebooks were .6% of the market in 2008 up to 6.8% in 2010 and pretty close to 30% now.

I'm not necessarily in favor of an *all digital* marketplace for everything, but it's foolish to ignore the obvious trends.

Definitely, and Binding of Isaac.

Though it's not too popular, I loved the crap out of Aquaria as well.

Yes, but automakers do pretty much everything they can to take a slice out of the used market, including buying and selling the used vehicles themselves, offering vehicle servicing (much more expensive but people still use it), and scamming dumb people with vehicle leasing. Completely different markets with completely different profit strategies, and I'm tired of seeing it used as an example.

While I don't think the future is in digital *only*, when it's done corr...

More likely it'd be limited a single account, like digital titles. In which case, you log in with your friend's system.

If digital is done correctly, it tends to be cheaper or at least can be relied upon to go on sale at some point.
