I always found the Quen rune to be incredibly useful.

One thing you don't consider in your very bizarre future scenario is people adapting to the new technology and not actually *minding* the situation. Which, to be honest, will probably happen whether or not it's favorable.

However, aside from the fact that your semi-dystopian future where your precious entertainment content can be taken away from you at any turn is just... silly?

Regardless, the increase in distribution potential very often results in ...

Looks at SNES.
Looks at every other current gen system/game.

Nice try?

A bunch of baseless whining and fear of the future. Very seldom do things change for the worse, and people unable to adapt can always spend the next eternity replaying their old titles on old systems.

As long as the market exists for interesting games, they'll be made. Some will be more expensive, but tools, talent, and even something as simple as Kickstarter will allow niche titles to flourish.

Technology changes. Deal with it.

It's really not that bad of a thing to disrespect certain celebrities, to be honest (especially dumb, talentless ones).

Seriously, not trying to sound like a humanitarian/mother-earth lover/hippie bitch here, but there are a lot of places in the world where bloated consumerism is just so far out of hand.

It's much more particular around rich celebrities, and yeah, I'd say the "line" for what's acceptable and not in terms of said bloa...

A lot of it ends up being investor/publisher pressure to hit the same market as the profitable title.

It doesn't tend to work very well.

Holy nostalgia, Batman.

I second Hojo's recommendation. Nothing wrong with any of those games, but... oi...

I think this is very true. The telling point for me is the pause function in Dota 2. Every time I've seen it used, people might grumble a bit, but for the most part there's never been a problem letting someone reconnect whatever the case might be.

Something tells me a pause function would not work in LoL. It would just turn into either A) a trollfest where some idiot (or idiots) plays games to pause at random intervals (like in the middle of a teamfight), or B) jerk p...

If/when the Witcher gets up to game #5, you might see a similar popularity out.

Not to mention company size, marketing budget, and whatnot. They also offer different experiences and all that jazz.

@Shnazzyone

Interesting that you go the elitist dipshit route when Legend of Zelda has always been very simplistic. What portions of a game where you're pretty much told precisely what to do at every possible turn require thought?

That's not to say it isn't enjoyable (or wasn't a long time ago before I became bored with their lack of changing anything), but you seem to think Zelda holds some kind of deep complexity.

I can appr...

Their marketing seems to focus on two groups: the nostalgists who've played numerous Zelda games, and the new group of relatively young individuals who've maybe played a couple.

For a lot of people, repeating the same relative formula grows tiresome, and they move on. For others, the time between releases is long enough to make them anticipate the next title.

It doesn't necessarily bother me that they don't change the target audience (making i...

I'm starting to wonder how many folks are beginning to lose the nostalgia factor for Zelda.

Sad to say, it wore off for me about 3/4ths of the way through Twilight Princess. I've only played about 10 of the existing Legend of Zelda games, but the lack of much new or different makes me less interested in playing more of them. Skyward Sword seemed to do okay review-wise, but it seemed like only the hardcore nostalgists described it as amazing whereas moderate folks felt...

As much ambivalence as I hold toward Nintendo characters (mostly because of their broad excessive use over the last 20 years), they have quite a few iconic faces.

Sony does as well, but hopefully General Radec and Fat Princess serve as the *least* well-known characters. Anything more obscure would suggest they're a little past scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Not a huge amount, but definitely a few good titles in there.

I second the Baccano recommendation. Great show.

Sorry, but the guys from LoadingReadyRun in Checkpoint said it best:

"Speedrunner Cosmo has beaten Ocarina of Time in under 23 minutes, using a newly discovered glitch that allows players to bypass almost the entire game. This means it's finally possible to beat Ocarina of Time before the nostalgia wears off."

Ah... poor Tim Schafer. He and his people are so talented in so many ways. So many great, completely obscure games.

It's really good he was able to get things going with Kickstarter. Hopefully the end result will be worthwhile.

Decent Tidehunter guide. Not a huge fan of the specific items, but decent enough descriptions. Couple of thoughts:

- It's usually safe to skip Anchor Smash at early levels unless, as the article mentioned, maxing it to avoid heavy pushes from a Broodmother or Prophet.

- One thing I've found quite a liking to is to get an early bottle on him. Being able to back off for 2 seconds in order to swig enough to get mana for another Gush means the difference ...

Device consolidation may alter the basic ways (or places) people absorb their media.

However, the market exists for core gaming and likely will for many, many years, so developers will continue to make core games, whether they're on the traditional home console or the All-Mind cerebral interface.
