They don't look identical, they look similar. The only significant differences being that the 360 version has better anti-aliasing (2xAA on 360 vs none on the PS3) and less screen tearing. This has all been well documented.

Here are the two screenshots from Beyond3d showing the degree of aliasing in both versions:

I agree with you completely. Gears of War 2 surpasses the first one in nearly every way.
I also agree with you about the graphics. Gears 2 (especially past act 1) has the best graphics I have seen yet on consoles this generation. Graphically, Resistance 2 doesn't hold a candle to Gears of War 2. I'm not trying to be mean, I have both games and Resistance 2 is a good game, but honestly it really isn't even close. That's the truth.
I've only read one article and I'm already more sick of hearing Mr. Usher run his mouth than I ever was of hearing from Cliff Bleszinski. Why the unprovoked personal attacks on this guy? From what I have seen he has done nothing to deserve it. He says he is looking forward to Mirror's Edge and that it "looks great". He says nothing but good things about Insomniac and Ted Price. He shows great respect for Miyamoto and Jaffe. Where the hell does this guy get off pretending that...
I agree. PC gaming is great for some, but it definitely requires more effort and is not as convenient. That is why consoles are so much more popular than PC gaming.
Anyway, I am really loving the demo and I am glad that reviewers seem to be recognizing how great it is. I was slightly worried that some reviewers would mark down the game for not offering a huge diversity of different game types. But it is good to see that at least OXM recognize the beauty of the perfectly polis...
Uh...yes they did advertise LBP a lot. I saw 2 page ads in a variety of different magazines. Several game and electronics stores also had pretty big advertisements for LBP.
You said "PS3 beat the xbox360 last year in worldwide sales".
I'm sorry but you are wrong. Last year (2007) the Xbox 360 beat the PS3 in total worldwide sales. This year (2008) isn't over yet and we don't know who will have sold more by the end of the year.
@ Socom
You are a hater and you're biased. I own a 360 and a PS3 (PSN ID = psykosonikninja) and I think that the reviews all of these games have been getting are fair and are representative of their actual quality. Sure, I disagree every now and then, but by and large the reviews are fair. Are you really naive enough to believe that there is some grand conspiracy out there that involves hundreds of review sites and magazines?
Your language reveals you to be a bi...
I agree. I loved the old Banjo Kazooie games on N64 and I really loved the demo of Nuts and Bolts. I loved the building mechanic and beautiful graphics. As a platformer, I actually think Banjo Kazooie looks better than Ratchet and Clank Future. They both look really good, but I think Banjo Kazooie looks a little better. I was starting to really miss platformers and here comes LBP and Banjo Kazooie to save the day. This has got to be the greatest holiday season for games that I have ever...
I agree. I, too, have played the PC and 360 versions of the demo and they are surprisingly close. In fact, on my PC there really isn't any advantage for the PC version over the 360 version. I will definitely be getting the 360 version for the convenience and for the better experience on Xbox LIVE.
It's good to see Gears 2 selling so well, because it is an absolutely amazing game. It truly did surpass my expectations in every way. They kept in everything that worked and piled tons of enhancements and polish on top. The story is resonating with me this time a lot more than the first one did and the action flows from one awesome set-piece to the next. It has been an incredible ride so far. Oh, and it's definitely a lot longer than the first one. All the online modes kick ass, especi...
Vgcharts has never been as reliable as NDP numbers, but they are usually quite close. It's not like they are off in left field. These numbers from vgcharts give us a pretty good idea of what the numbers actually are. They might be a little higher or a little lower, but it will definitely be fairly close.
Those screenshots look like crap. I definitely agree that the game looks a lot better in motion on a HDTV. Nevertheless, Resistance 2 definitely isn't some graphical powerhouse. To be honest, I was disappointed by Resistance 2's lack of significant graphical evolution.
Oh, just so you guys know, Gears of War 2 also looks a lot better in motion on a HDTV than it does in screenshots or low-quality internet videos.
I loved the demo, even when some other people were saying that it wasn't that great. I love games and movies that deal with authoritarian governments and underground resistance movements. The premise and gameplay seem so fresh in Mirror's Edge. It has moved to the top 5 of my most wanted games. But I can't decide whether to get the PS3 version or the Xbox 360 version. The PS3 version will be getting some kind of downloadable content, but the 360 version definitely looks better with less ...
I have both and I have to say that I mostly agree with this reviewer. Gears 2 is the better game in my opinion. The campaign is a completely wild ride. I mean, Resistance 2's campaign is as well, but not to the same degree. The graphics in Gears 2 really blow away the graphics in Resistance 2. Everyone was saying how Resistance 2 was going to look way better than the first Resistance and how Gears of War 2 was going to look the same as the first one. But it turns out that it is just the...
Of course it's all a matter of personal choice, but that doesn't mean that there is no value in knowing what others think about a game. That is why we have reviews. This comparison is basically another kind of review. Nothing wrong with that.
It's nice to hear that Resistance 2 does not require a huge install like many PS3 games do. I hate those mandatory installs. Well, Resistance still has a small mandatory install, but at least it isn't a very big one.
The dismissal in this thread is pathetic. Why can't you PS3 fanboys be reasonable. Left4Dead is a good game and it isn't coming to the PS3. Why can't you be happy that you get to play LBP and Resistance 2?
All the PS3 fanboys in this thread do one of three things:
1. Dismiss the game by saying it sucks or "I'm not interested in it at all".
2. Pull the old PS3 fanboy standby and claim "oh, well I'll just get it for the PC". Like ...
I've been playing the demo and from what I have played it absolutely deserves the 9.5 that OXM gave it. It's crazy fun and so addicting. I can't stop playing it. All I can say is that Valve sure know how to craft compelling gameplay experiences. I was looking forward to it, but it honestly has surpassed all my expectations. Dang, just one more game that I have to buy this month.
Mirror's Edge actually looks better on the 360, but PS3 is reported to be getting some sort of downloadable content. So, it depends on what people care about more. I don't care about the DLC, but I definitely thought the 360 version looked better (better anti-aliasing and less screen tearing) so I will get it for my 360. I just don't think you should automatically put it on the PS3 list.
Also, what's better about Dead Space on the PS3? Both versions have been reported to loo...
I think the 360 has a really nice and well-balanced line-up of games releasing this holiday season.
Gears of War 2
Banjo and Kazooie
Left 4 Dead
Fable 2

Sony screwed up with the design of the PS3, plain and simple. Making a console that is not optimized for actually making games is hurting the PS3 more than people know. You have developers like Valve that don't even want to work with it at all. More importantly though, developers that do work on PS3 projects struggle to get their games to run well on the PS3. This causes a majority of multi-platform games to look and perform worse on the PS3 than on the Xbox 360. It also tends to make So...
