I think it's obvious from everything we've heard that Microsoft's software just isn't ready yet. Their devkits were sent out late. The drivers aren't ready. Add to this the extreme policy changes made to the OS, and they have a LOT of catching up to do.
Download everything. Just cancel the download after it begins and it will still show in your download list so you can have access to it later. That way, should you get a Vita, you will have access to all those games.
I still think they are waiting for the Remote Play feature to be ready before they release it in the West. A lot of people would be disappointed if they had a PS4 already and could not use this to stream their games to another TV. Plus I think they need to patch some of the games that are more popular in the West (Uncharted, Killzone) to make them work on VitaTV.
VitaTV also adds a nice new price-point for PlayStation:
$99 - VitaTV
$199 - PS Vita
$250-299 - P...
I have had a Vita since it launched and I play it every day. I just can't understand how people say it doesn't have great games. I haven't even had time to get to some of the big ones, like Gravity Rush, Wipeout, Super Stardust, or Persona Golden. Add to that the overwhelming list of games that are scheduled to come out soon, and this thing is a must have.
I just think the headline is disingenuous. It presents the word "technically" in the same vein as "theoretically.". But if you read the interview, Andrew House says it in more of a matter of fact way. I find it ammusing that they were even clinging to this as news. They said it's a Vita and therefore can do everything a Vita can do. If A=B and B=C then of course A=C, but they need it to be confirmed. Maybe I'm just looking too deep into this.
The title for the article, along with the entire contents of the Gamasutra article are very misleading. Go straight to the source and just read the interview with Andrew House which is just as long as the article.
He says it's not coming to US or Europe at this point as they focus on Asia. But it clearly is coming.

That pretty much sums it up. "First in Japan prior to other regions."
The $150 bundle also comes with 3 months of PS+ Smart, smart move.
Here's a theory. They want to patch some of the games that would be more popular in the West before launching it. So once they have non-touch patches for games like Killzone, Uncharted Golden Abyss, and Unit 13 they will launch it. Right now most of the compatible titles are very Japanese-oriented.
It's also possible that the Remote Play feature for it isn't ready yet and they don't want to release it in markets where the PS4 is already on sale until it is ready. ...
It's exactly like a game of chess. Kaz and the whole PlayStation team has a plan to take over the world, and we're seeing it revealed one piece at a time. Everything, from Gaikai to the Vita is just a move to an end where PS stands alone.
I think the PS Vita is a red herring, to keep everyone from noticing that the VitaTV is the real play for domination.
Well, the VitaTV is a PS Vita without a screen. They've already said Gaikai would be coming to the PS Vita, so why wouldn't it work on the VitaTV?
EXACTLY! I call shenanigans! The EU PlayStation blog, along with the US blog both hyped this conference and it was translated into English for a non-Japanese audience. Why would they go through all the effort just to say, "See what Japan's getting? Well, you can't have it! MWAHAHAHA!!!"
Though Sony has been very coy and deceptive about a lot of things recently. They were going to let Microsoft announce the Xbox One first until they shocked everyone and revealed ...
For all its faults, I like the way Kotaku rates games. They don't use a number scale but rather just simple "Should you play this game." It took me a long time to read this site again after they said that you should NOT play Uncharted Golden Abyss. I mean, WTF?! On the plus side, at least they're not Polygon (worst reviews I'v ever seen).
It's better than a dvd and they look pretty good on my 1080p tv. I think they will look fine.
When thinking of the Vita TV, don't think about the current Vita games that it can/cannot play, but rather think about the all the upcoming Vita games it will be able to play.
It seems to me that the most used phrase from Gamescom and PAX was "Coming to PS4 and Vita." All these indie games that are coming to both consoles, and obviously not touch-centric games, will probably play beautifully on the Vita TV. So if you have a PS3 and you don't want to shell out for a...
I think the thing to watch out for is the software. The hardware in both devices have been set for some time, but the software just isn't ready yet. I think Microsoft and its partners are trying hard to get the OS and the games up to speed, but late November is probably the earliest they could have things ready. Even then, I'm wondering if there won't be a number of bugs in the system.
I'm sure Sony has their issues to work out as well, but since they haven't be...
When you're talking something like an RV or a van, the power requirements of a full console just don't cut it. Not to mention the size of something like a PS3 when space is already limited.
I think something like this would be great for even trips where you stay at a hotel. Lugging around a full console just wouldn't be as convenient.
Polygon is a good site for gaming news and a horrible site for gaming reviews. Any Sony exclusive that gets praised by virtually every other site gets panned on Polygon. The anti-playstation bias is so thick it's disgusting.
I'm not sure how the Journey review was ever approved of.
That said, I think either Joystiq or IGN have the most level-headed and balanced reviews. Polygon, like The Verge, seems like it's trying to hard to be some high-brow site. Like it...
I hate it when video game articles are written by people who seem to know nothing about video games.
With her logic Google should have abandoned Android when it wasn't an immediate success. Apple needs to abandon the Apple TV, and the whole Mac platform since they have such tiny marketshare. And of course the worst performer of them all, the Washington Post needs to just close-up shop because they too have been performing horribly. Does anyone else think it's ironic that th...
I read it in one of the thousand articles I saw about the Vita TV, but now I can't find it again (and it's not mentioned on the official FAQ), so maybe it's not possible. But even if it's not possible now, there's no reason to believe it couldn't easily be added in later.
I hate the "it's all about the games" mantra. No it isn't. It's also about a company that respects its customers. The fact that Microsoft had a vision for the Xbox One that was against what so many core gamers believe is unreal. The fact that they reversed all their policies doesn't make them any better. They revealed they are motivated solely on money and will change their stance on anything at the drop of a hat for more of it.
Meanwhile over at Sony, Shuhei...
