with the talk of them porting Smash and Splatoon, I'm under the assumption that bw compatibility it definitely not going to be a thing.
The move to optical media took place at a time when capacity was much greater on disc than on a cartridge. That's not really the case anymore. Cartridges also provide some clear advantages over discs. Without a disc drive, the machine would be quieter and would have one less mechanical component that will eventually fail. Carts are more durable. Personally, I wouldn't mind a cartridge based system, especially if they're not going to allow the console to play DVDs or Blu-rays as h...
Amen! This article pretty much nails it. The NX was announced way too soon and it's put Nintendo into a precarious situation. They've killed off their current console while at the same time providing no information about what is to come which allows speculation to run wild. They also told everyone who might have thought about getting a Wii U to play the new Zelda to hold off. What the hell are they thinking at Nintendo HQ?
Except announcing a game really early only gets you excited, whereas prematurely announcing a new console keeps many people from buying the current console.
Well, nobody knows how to delay a game better than Miyamoto. Yet, if they were better at planning, then they wouldn't have to delay or rush. They get the job done and don't announce an unrealistic date.
And just because you delay a game doesn't make it good... it just makes it late.
As Steve Jobs said, "Real artists ship." They can fiddle with the game until the end of time, but if you're going to announce a release date, then you need to commit to it. Constantly delaying a game is a sign of incompetence.
I love this game. Aiming is a bit awkward at times, but it's still a really fun game. An improvement on the first in almost every way.
No, the announced it.

Since March 2015, Nintendo has revealed that the next console was coming soon, so don't worry about buying a Wii U.
Or to put it another way, "the game is fun when you get 30 hours in." If the barrier to entry it too high, don't expect people to stick around and "get used to it."
This about sums it up for me. There's too much form over function and stuff that should be easy is in fact too complicated. At times it seems as though Nintendo is so proud of their Mii's that they force them upon you. In the end though, you just want to play a game and not spend a lot of time wandering around in the system's UI.
The PS4 was announced in February (with specifics as to what the console actually was), shown in June, and released in November of the same year. The NX was announced in March 2015 with no specifics. Then re-announced in April 2016, again with no specifics. And it will be released in March of 2017. So for 2 years they've basically said, "Hold off on buying anything because the new thing is right around the corner, but we won't tell you what it is yet." So they effectively ki...
Loved the first one. Glad to see the sequel is cross-buy. Can't wait to play it.
Enjoyable article. Haven't laughed that much in awhile.
Investors are selling Nintendo stock because revenue is down, sales are down, and profits are way down. Yes, there was a profit but one that was a fraction of what it was a year ago. Also, their guidance for the upcoming year is abysmal. They are now forecasting that in the next fiscal year, they will only sell 800,000 Wii U's. Those are PS Vita low numbers right there. And what software are they going to sell with it? T...
No, this isn't the smartest thing they have done in years. They might have been able to pull this off had Iwata not spilled the beans that the NX exists a year ago. They publicly revealed it to the world but then said nothing about what it was. Then silence. Then more silence. Surely at E3 they'll rock the world with announcement? Nope, just more silence.
Nintendo is doing something extremely dangerous right now and that is allowing the market to speculate on what i...
I think the console cycles are dead. The PS4 is the system. The PS4K will be like the next version of iPhone. Faster and better in most every way but still runs the same software. Then in a few more years, an even better system will get released. Eventually yes, support for the current PS4 will be abandoned, but that won't be for a number of years, probably when support would ahve normally ended anyway.
Who cares?!?! If you want a new console, then get one. If you don't, you're not getting shafted. Battlefront on the PS4 runs at 900p right now. That has nothing to do with it being "downgraded" because there's a Neo out or anything. That's simply what they could push out of the system. So if the Neo comes along and can run the game at 1080p or higher, how does that screw over current PS4 customers? They're not getting an "inferior" version of the game. ...
I think some people are angry because they see this as a re-fresh in the middle of the console cycle. The problem is, this isn't a refresh, it's a new paradigm. It's a new way consoles will work. The console cycle is dead. The idea of "generations" is dead. The PS4 is the platform and the future will be built upon it. Like smartphones, like PCs, a newer and more capable piece of hardware will be released on a more frequent basis. If you want to upgrade, fine. If not, tha...
I bought a PS4 at launch. I'm one of the 40million or so that have made it a success. If Sony wants to release an even more powerful version of the console, I'm a full supporter of it. I'm not saying I'm going to buy one, but I think it's great they want to give people the option. Everyone who thinks this is somehow screwing over their current customers is probably a moron and is reacting off of emotion rather than thinking this through.
I'll throw my hat into the Sly Cooper camp. I was late to the party with Sly, but wow was it a good time.
I think E3 is still as important, if not more so, than ever before. E3 is where the winners are crowned. It's where people who love video games soak in news from the industry as a whole and not just from their preferred console. Nintendo's continuing efforts to be more insular is not working. Nintendo Directs are nice, but they don't reach the audience that Nintendo needs to reach. E3 is important.
Yes, companies are pulling out, and some should. EA gives a horr...
