I would use them for L3 and R3, hate to press down the stick to use those, if they are programmable buttons I would find a lot of uses for them depending on the game, sometimes you just want a quicker reaction time and these buttons would allow you that.
Microsoft had like 4 good games this whole 7 years generation, and no I don't count a yearly franchise like Forza the same way I don't count MLB: The Show for PlayStation.
The PS3 never had a horrid year, if anything it had an ok launch and that's as bad as it got. AT ALL points throughout the generation the PS3 was selling more in a worldwide basis that the 360, plus, the games were always there, the 360 didn't have anything worthwhile when you take out all the timed exclusives in the first couple of years (that eventually went to the PlayStation like BioShock and Mass Effect, plus all the paid deals like COD MP maps or GTA DLC).

They have 4 generations defining and re-defining gaming, even the least successful of their consoles ended up the generation with close to 90 million units sold even though it came out one full year after the competition.
People know what to expect and what they are getting into when buying a PlayStation, a console that will put the gamer and the games first.
I do not care about day one exclusive games, I'm in for the long run and even if they do not have anything major at launch (which I doubt) I know what I'm buying into.
Good list, I've had the good fortune of having played all those games, I would add to the list Koudelka/Shadow Hearts/Shadow hearts: Covenant, amazing and very underrated series.
Before you needed to actually deliver on content year after year, now for you to rise from the ashes it seems the only thing you need is show a really really good looking trailer at the end of the year, not even a game, a trailer.

Before the original FFVII came out for the PSX, there was a demo for the game, they should use the same demo as base for the remake and I would even add the option to go between the original and the remake at the touch of a button so we can see how far we've got.
