Because alot of Europeans bought American Wiis in order to play games sooner and cheaper. Like laaakokaracha.
Nintendo has been fixing this "problem" that they have been having in Europe by doing stuff like this for months now (LoZ3DS, Pokemon, 3DS releasing first in Europe, sometimes with goodies)

If you are an American, I can understand why you would be happy with Nintendo.If you are European, Nintendo has been even more awesome with Xenoblade. I haven't played it, but I hope it comes to America next year, when Nintendo suspiciously has nothing lined up till Christmas console wise. It's magical.

That lack of third party support comes from companies abandoning Nintendo for Sony's first PlayStation, and consumer response to this shift.

Maybe they won't release in America. But Nintendo knows that people want these games. They also know that games cost more in Europe than in America.
The Legend of Zelda OoT came out in Europe with extra goodies first why? To encourage sales(Both console and software) in a region where things are priced higher. But with the WiiU not launching until Christmas next year, Nintendo's First Half of next year has some slots that could be filled for the Wii with some big name games people seem to really want.

And if a console is to overpowerd, there's only so much you can do before it becomes overwhelming to.
This is why game design has changed so little in the past generation. And also why the most inventive games come from indie developers and games on weaker platforms.
Just look at little kings story Vita's "new" art style, and see how overpowerd machines push the standardizing of even the most individual and unique games.

When you look at potential consumer bases, the 3ds has Nintendo's handheld history (especially with the ds) as a major plus when it comes to assessing risk when choosing a platform for making a game. This is why they originally had so much support.

Moving the system while keeping the 3D effect isn't that hard. You just need to move your waist instead of your arms. It's impractical sometimes, but it works.

3DS has a great lineup of games, and while I don't care much for what has been shown
for the Vita, it to has a great list of upcoming games. Opinion dictates the quality per person, and many will like both consoles.
So then, what is your method of determining quality?

You know, those games aren't usualy supposed to be free... And depending on how you consider what they would have cost, could total up to $160
( GBA= $5 x 20, NES=$3 x 20). That's twice the price cut.
